Really glad we have this thread. This is my first time venturing out of Gaming-Discussion after being on GAF for years( a lurking for a decade at least), and I guess I assumed there were no black people on GAF, as this is still a part of that old 90s/00s face-less Internet. Why I assumed so is probably a deep subject in itself, but I am glad we have this.

10 Cloverfield was good. Lots of tension. Had me real uncomfortable. They did real good setting me on edge.

And had my first solo uber. Never really paid attention to them in the past; way too drunk. Unless it's surge pricing, why would I ever get a cab again? Fuck cabbies, racist fucks.

I don't think giving the player a choice really changes anything about Link or TLOZ lore in the long run.

I never have and I never will argue that heroism is a uniquely male trait. I'm only stating my personal stance on Link's "avatar" nature, where I'd prefer the series to move in that regard, that I think "swapping" is the "lazy" way to improve representation and that the hero of the game doesn't have to be Link.

Plus the very design of Link is that he's a completely different person from game to game with a few exceptions. Having a different version, be it gender or race, isn't out of the question entirely.

GTAO actually tackles this to an extent, with your character being a mute avatar that can take any number of forms, and virtually all permutations of the "GTAO Avatar" character are considered unique individuals in-universe running missions for characters like Martin Madrazo a few months before the game's story mode, which is partially why some of these characters are in power in the mainline story: mob bosses' prior mooks were GTAO characters, which are player-controlled angels of death! In cutscenes they don't say a word but the characters they interact with are typically chatty (and are visibly off-put by the fact that you're completely silent).

Wouldn't mind having this. You created the character and are in his shoes (if you created yourself or some celeb). Goes deeper but with Link i don't know if i should be playing as him as his own guy and i am just controlling him or he is just an avatar in game i happen to control and see the world through. At the same time wanting to have a custom character of my own creation but the tools not being there. Went with the third

On Link-I don't really think having female Link as an option is something Nintendo is doing with representation in mind; it's just something they feel like doing. Devs over here are a lot more stubborn about changing something based on external feedback especially if it's not related to core gameplay. While people in the US might talk about lazy this or PC that, it's not even that deep. They probably just like how Linkle turned out and are deciding to give people more options.
