Horror movies and traditional games don't get me rattled at all but let me tell you, when a (not particular well-rendered) ghost child was quickly crawling at me in VR it fucking did something to me. I can't wait for a higher-budget VR horror game.

I don't fuck with horror in VR. I mean the Budget Cuts demo already brought me to my knees in fear.

We still bitching about Waypoint? Because this detective pikachu thing, what the fuck.

I saw the words 'detective pikachu' and got really excited before I realized what you were talking about. :'(

It's never coming west.

Really hope Oxenfree gets some good props in the best story or moments categories. I'm not expecting it to win anything, but I played through that game in two sittings yesterday and it was awesome. I'm pretty biased because teen movies and horror films are two of my favorite genres, but that game does some really clever stuff with its story, so I'm really hoping somebody mentions it.

I can't say fanfic is something I'd expect from a website's GOTY content, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't weirdly enjoying all of it, lol

Oxenfree is fucking rad, I've been happy as hell to see people discovering it lately. (Definitely do a NG+ if you haven't.)

Something about the writing and delivery of that game didn't work for me at all. The dialogue was very writerly and never sounded convincing and nobody ever reacted to anything in a way that was even remotely believable. Also if you go for the collectibles, it's pretty obvious what's actually going on. The big climax fell totally flat for me. It's the negative universe Life is Strange to me, but some people feel exactly the opposite way I guess.

Whoa! What region(s)? You're in Europe, right? So, that might mean nothing for me right now (in North America). I'd love for it to be officially to be released here. 2017 is all about the old games coming to PS4. Windjammers and Puyo Poyo Tetris. What's next? Tetris Battle Gaiden? Or that random Hello Kitty game they sometimes play?

This is probably just a US release. SEGA and Europe don't go well.

Ooh. Okay. Wow. Crazy to think I could soon have Windjammers and Puyo Puyo Tetris without needing a NeoGEO (for Windjammers) or importing a game from Japan (with Puyo Puyo Tetris). Now I seriously do hope for a PS4 Tetris Battle Gaiden (and that Hello Kitty game... sure, why not?).

The way the dialogue was written and delivered definitely rubbed me that way at first and I wound up bouncing right the hell off of the game for a while, but something about it eventually clicked for me, a lot of it being the mood/atmosphere and score. (I do think I'd be less enthusiastic about the game if I had finished it before NG+ was added in, though.)

Man, it'd be crazy to finally have an English Puyo Puyo Tetris release. That's the JP import I've probably spent the most time playing.

doom is a really weird beast.

i really do love how amazingly the codex entries are written, especially the corporate cult ones which are this really fantastic mix of human resources generic enthusiasm and straight up talking about satan

I wonder how people who are playing hitman now will react to it.

Having one map a month was good because it allowed for replayability

Yeah, it's definitely...less good now, I would say. I'm just kinda completing each map a normal way and moving on for now. I'm hoping to go back and replay the maps for some more creative solutions a little later on.

I started the Old Hunters a few days ago, and it's pretty clear that Bloodborne is way better than the still good Dark Souls III. And since Giant Bomb hated that one, I expect no Dark Souls III on their list.
I'm hoping for the clean sweep of never having a Souls/bloodborne game on their list.

Is recore really as bad as Brad is making it out to be? I was about to buy it while it was on sale because I was under the impression that the respond was positive aside from some tech issues...

The first hours of the game are great. Then you hit a wall and need to do a lot of grinding to get to the finale. I plan to eventually buy it and cheat at the end.

I wrote a bit in response to Brad's 'Quick Look' at ReCore: one / two

Went into more detail in other posts, in case you're curious: one / two / three / four / five

I bought the complete pack and only paid Paris so far... but I've been save scumming/checklisting too much. I'm gonna try and play it more fast and loose.

I just got it around thanksgiving and it is still amazing. Got to 20 mastery on Paris first, 10ish on Sapienza then 10 or 11 on Marrakesh, played a couple bonus eps. Went back to Sapienza and got 19. Next is Bangkok to get ready for the elusive friday! Failed miserably at the celebrity chef one, got the madam of death in like a minute, silent assassin. Hitman is really, really good, so much fun!!!

Everyone has "bad" opinions sometimes so its fine.
Bad meaning going against the popular consensus.
I think every game Bethesda has ever made is a hot garbagefire but that doesn't make me crazy!
Hopefully.

I just finished Titanfall 2's campaign

I thought it was kind of bad

am I crazy? 🤔

It does definitely feel like the kind of campaign that's just a collection of ideas hastily thrown together, but it's working for me, so far at least. I jumped back into it earlier tonight and
"Got you."
had me going

i just finished doom (kinda unexpectedly)

pretty good except for the boss battles which were garbage... well not garbage but you really don't have the right gameplay verbs for a 'you're in this fuckin' square room with no cover or interesting geometry and you just gotta whale on this dude' fights to be interesting.

does GB do a 'best credits' award? because damn those were some fucking sick credits.

Finally listened to Day 1 of the deliberations and man. Alex really grew on me this year and I really liked him before.
So happy he brought up Palmers appearance on GB and how that looks in hindsight.

Jeff got pretty far into it. Vinny I remember he played it on a stream and probably played it after? Alex....I think? Idk.

True Vinny did that stream. Still not sure about any of them actually playing it to completion.

I really liked the game, but even as a Deus Ex fan it barely made my list. It was just too much if the same and the main plot was underwhelming. They also didn't do anything with the anti aufs angle. My hopes now lie with Prey to actually advance the immersive sim genre again.

Everything about MD (and Dishonoured 2) having a lame / underwhelming plot / narrative was a massive turn off for me.
The importance of that element has in a sense only grown stronger for me now that I have less gametime.

All the side stuff in Deus Ex is good though. Especially the murder mystery.

Yeah, but both games really let you get your sneak on

It was a good year for sneak

I didn't like Dishonored 2, but yeah. For me immersive sims are about playing with interesting systems. That's where most of my fun comes from. So a lesser story is not at all a deal breaker for me.
