I hate when this happens which is more often than it should. How oblivious or full of yourself you have to be to not understand the cues that your time is up!?

I guess no one briefed the Frenchwoman on American Award show cues. I guess on French Award shows they can stay up there as long as they want rambling. Just a different culture

What's that about Affleck?

He had some sexual harassment kind of accusations. Two plaintiffs in a civil case, he settled a few years ago.

Personally, I think the Nate Parker double standards angle is kind of weak, since Parker's was a criminal case and those transcribed tapes of him presented at trial said a whole lot. But you oughta find a proper accounting of the Casey allegations if you wanna dig into it.

It's just people in denial because it won over their favorite movies (although I agree that something else should've won in the best screenplay category).

uh oh someone hasn't watched Moonlight or Manchester

Guys there isn't that much hate for La La Land.

A lot of us just think it shouldn't have won EVERYTHING, only some of them.
notice how the same people calling people salty haven't watched most of the movies La la land competed against.

So was The Birth of a Nation forgotten because of the politics, or just the quality of it? Surprisd to see Affleck win (though totally deserved, his performance was great) despite the similar allegations.

Makes sense Casey Affleck can get away with a lot more shit. Fame, relatives, white assault not being as "scary" as black assault, etc.

It's absolutely fucked that Affleck got away with it, considering that Nate Parker didn't.

I wonder what it could be!

My yearly rage that The Americans didn't win shit.

Happy though that Moonlight finally got an award.

And good that the show producers kept Fallon out for majority of the show.

It's the Hollywood Foreign Press. They can pick whoever they want

Both, and it might end up effecting Affleck at the Oscars to be honest.

Birth of a Nation won't get nominated for anything in the Academy Awards either.

Appreciate the input folks. Interesting to see what'll happen at the Oscars in a couple of months.

What's that about Affleck?

Some unfortunately gross allegations from a female producer on Casey Affleck's "I'm Still Here".

If Ali doesn't get best supporting Oscar I'll be mad. If he's now going up against Quicksilver for some reason I'll be MAAAAAAAAAD

If the allegations are true on both sides, Parker gang raped someone and Affleck behaved like a total perv fratboy.

Casey being white with powerful friends undoubtedly helps for sure, but also...

1. As reprehensible as sexual harassment is, it is not a "similar allegation" to rape.
2. Casey settled with his accusers. Parker harassed his accuser, tried to destroy her reputation, refused to apologize or admit to anything, got off, ruined this girl's life, ultimately pushing her to suicide, so there's no form of justice coming to her or her family ever.
3. Manchester is, by all accounts, the better movie and Casey's is, by all accounts, the better performance.

Moonlight absolutely deserves that. I was honestly five with that or Manchester by the Sea winning. Both incredible movies, by far my two favorite films of the year.

I've seen them, and they're good movies, but I think the "salt" in this thread stems from the fact that La La Land won over them. They're all great films though.

so which is it

there is no salt. Rational people think La la land shouldn't have won some awards that it clearly didn't deserve.

and then the La la land defense force came in every time accusing people who have seen all 3 movies of being salty. like what.

I think Hacksaw Ridge should've won something. It's right up there as one of the best war movies ever for me, alongside The Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket. Maybe I sound hyperbolic, but I've seen it three times now and I'm loving it more and more.

Yeah this one is my big award season blindspot. Really gotta get out to it.
