Matt Reeves on ‘The Batman’: “It’s a standalone, this isn’t part of the DCEU"

What I hope he means is that it won't have to stick in Wonder Woman or whatever and it can just focus on itself, which is exactly what I like from Batman comics, so I'd be super into that.

If he is literally saying that this doesn't take place in the DCEU then what the hell?

Standalone movies not homeogenized into a cinematic universe would be great. Maybe some great superhero movies will start being made again.

So are they gonna have a new Batman in the DCEU or what?

It's time damn it!

Keep going and make better films.

Well, they are certainly doing the former, we'll have to wait and see how JL turns out to decide on the latter. But, that's part of the problem, too. They have all these films announced, and don't want to appear unsure to the public, so they can't pause long enough to sort things out. Gotta keep plowing ahead trying to correct course at full speed. That is bound to make things messy.

Add to that the bonus of your Joker being pretty vocal about how unhappy he was with his movie. And your Batman putting on a good face to the public, but all the rumors (including from his own brother) saying he isn't happy either. Just, a fucking mess.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
Just kill the DCEU and make different standalone movies for every hero while giving their directors creative freedom.

Honestly, not the worst idea. Differentiate between themselves and marvel more.

Making movies is hard, I understand that. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears go into making movies.

With that said, it literally should not be this hard to make a D.C. Cinematic Universe. It's not like the concept is unprecedented. There's over 70 years of comic history over thousands upon thousands of comic book pages, to draw inspiration from.

The fact that Warner Bros and D.C. are dropping the ball so hard is mind boggling, especially when their animated shows like Justice League, and their animated films (with the exception of The Killing Joke), are really good.

Cool, I just want good films so hopefully this takes the chains off. It's what they should have done to begin with but oh well..

He most likely means it's not interconnected as much as say, Captain America. It still takes place in the DCEU I'm assuming.

But it's more fun to give hot takes instead.

They have things sorted out, they just gave a whole slate which they are following. And our Joker is a drama queen and a weirdo, and Ben just and is going through a rough time in his life. His actions as far as the movies go have so far showed that he's more than involved.

I am so sick of expanded universes. Just make good individual movies. Don't plop out junk and say they are all commingled junk. I think expanded universes are a fad that will go away at some point. I don't want to have to watch 20 movies to get all the stupid references.

These aren't freaking hot takes. He literally said its freaking standalone and not part of the universe. You assuming he meant just about the opposite is closer to hot take than us responding to what he said directly.

No one is twisting his words here. Couple that with the info that they are doing a Joker project w/o Leto and its not like its impossible or some leap of logic.

*Wonder Woman.

Iron Man cameos don't seem to be as effective as we once thought they were.

Ehh, no? Homecoming opens in China on the 8th, which would in the end put it around 800 to 825m WW. Im pretty sure that shows those cameos are plenty effective,

I just hope it's good and doesn't underwhelm me with bullshit like War did. I don't care if it contributes to the universe.

Fantastic news. All the best comic book movies have existed outside of cinematic universes so far. Even Logan sorta counts since it basically has a sort of alternate future thing going on

Bless the fuck up if this true. This ensures it can be it's own thing and actually get a bit ambitious rather than be forced into that box.

I use to think what Feige did was no big deal, just good management. But seeing so many companies floundering, dude must be juggling chainsaws, while turning water into wine, while blindfoolded.

It is quite telling WB/DC has shifting messages week by week. WB is the switch messaging app of comicbook movies

Flashpoint is gonna be so good if it brings about the destruction of this overly dire universe they've created.

You really think that Batman film won't be set within the main universe?

Feige needs to write a book at some point - his career is a masterclass in project management

To be fair, WW was pretty standalone too. And all the better for it. Have a few little Easter eggs, but just make great films.

I think its certainly possible. But what I think isn't as important as a man thats closer to the project than you and me combined saying its not connected.

I mean, that's the story here. I wouldnt have thought they would have done BvS the way they did either; but they did. So..../shrug. All we have to go on is what comes out. Just because I think its dumb doesn't mean they won't do it.

Why wouldn't it be standalone? If the movie is ex the red hood, that doesn't need to tie into anything in the DCEU. Flash doing flashpoint woukd tie in, but if it's just flash vs zoom that wouldn't need to be connected to the DCEU

It's not really all that possible, trades would've mentioned it alongside Joker film if it was Elseworlds if we're still connecting dots. It's apart of the DCEU slate.

This is honestly the next step for the superhero genre. Movies being standalone, doing their own thing and their own style.

It avoids the sameness feeling that cinematic universe movies have and the convoluted 10 movie spanning arcs.

Hope Matt Reeves does Year One with a new Batman and Affleck does a Dark Knight Returns style old batman movie.

MUnited83

For you.
I mean I prefer the movies to be separate from each other, but if you're doing this might as well put the whole DCEU in the trash. Not even the most popular hero gets a movie tying in to it? That's ridiculous.
