Modern Warfare Early Copies Already Out Into the Wild, Patch Required to Get Past Main Title Screen

Are people really too thick to understand what the problem here is?

I will use an analogy to explain. Analogue just announced Analogue Pocket. I went right away to Lukiegames shopping for Zelda: Minish Cap, Tetris, Wario Ware and a bunch of other games. I have full reassurance that while they are up to 30 years old, I can just pop them in and they will work.

When the 70 year old me decides to check out Modern Warfare from 30 years back, I can’t buy a game from this era, because the disc won’t do anything. Servers hosting the patch are long gone. The disc does nothing.

That is the reason why forced downloads for offline games are crap. I say this as someone who only buys digital games for modern consoles.

I agree with you, at least in part. In my view the offline component should be working from the moment the disc is pressed throughout history. At worse, a purchaser of a disc should have a buggy but working game. I say I agree in part, because I am not sure if you are demanding perfection out of the gate (no bugs). I wouldn't agree with that, although I would love for that to be the case.

I'm not playing the game until Friday evening after work so this doesn't affect me whatsoever and for those who get the game early especially if they paid more, right or wrong, it's fucking funny. Or at least it is to me. LMAO.

Off topic comment: that is one hell of an ugly, angry little troglodyte commie. A complete phony as well with shitty acting skills.

Back on topic: As for Modern Warfare, if there's an offline gamemode (for example the campaign) which clearly implies single player gaming, then making a day one patch obligatory to be able to play the game is outright bastard tier asshole behaviour. Imagine you're no where near an internet connection, have a ps4 & a boxed copy of Modern Warfare? You're fucked. I don't see how anyone could defend that.

I don't understand why people are getting defensive and negative over this, lmao.

I don't think anyone is "too thick to understand" that entire topic. Though I can't speak on behalf of everyone here that has commented. This particular thread was/is about Modern Warfare, therefore I think the ones being labeled "thick" are referring to it and not video games in their entirety. At least I was.

Maybe talking about that being an issue with video games in their entirety should be a different thread?

Am I surprised a COD title would go this route? No, hell, no one should be, as unfortunate as it is. Release dates being broken has been an issue for a long time and COD's online component is its meat and potatoes, so it kind of makes sense to do what they're doing. Or at least attempting.

Does that mean I'm all for a future where I can't go back and play older console games that I want to revisit? One where every single purchased console game suddenly becomes a coaster or something similar? Lmao, no. I can't imagine anyone wanting that. 🤷‍♂️

Fair enough. Black Ops 4 was fully online so it’s not unprecedented for CoD in particular. But if it catches on to games more broadly, it will basically render physical redundant. I would imagine that Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk would be prime candidates.

It might affect you 25 years from now when the updates are no longer provided and you can't play MW's singleplayer because of this bullshit. I don't really care that much about CoD but what bothers me is the idea that this shit will catch on and then, hypothetically, TLoU2 for example, ships like this...

If it was Digital and there was some download glitch, surely I would understand, but the disc should be playable, whatever early version it is.....Do you know how many times interesting things have been discovered with the unpatched game vs the first roll?

To me early copies was always part of the gaming culture......….I can understand people wary of spoilers, but what can you really spoil in a COD campaign anyway...…..Anyway, the game will be out shortly,,,,,

Physical already is redundant, I'd argue. You can buy Bloodborne on disc and you end up with an unpatched version with long load times and no DLC. You're getting a compromised experience by going physical only.

Physical collectors will have to prioritize "definitive editions" and "game of the year" editions which carry all the DLC and patches. Whats on the vanilla disc no longer represents the product.

Yeah, exactly. With how the series has been treated these past few iterations I expected it to all continue to move down that same path.

Honestly I feel like CDPR is one of the few devs making awesome physical copies at this point. Especially standard editions. I'm one of the few old heads that prefer physical over digital any day, some think it's silly. But personally, I feel that if I'm paying full price for a title, I may as well have something physical. I'd go digital if pricing were cheaper. 🤷‍♂️

So my understanding is, besides resell value of a physical game in this present point in time, physical disc games are virtually digital anyway!? 🤔

I don't have an issue with this. I preordered advanced warfare and got it day one. On the first day a few people were already max rank

So..what happens if I buy a used launch copy of the game a year from now and take it back to my non-internet having house and try to play it? I think know the answer but I need someone to tell it to me.
If you don't have internet then how did you post to neogaf?

Serious question, why do you always use so many .......

So you're fucked without internet connection then? If so I'm getting flashbacks of the same bullshit that killed the Xbox One.

For everyone saying 'no big deal it's to prevent breaking street date' no it isn't because the online authentication flag will still be on the disc after street date, unless they go by the system time/date stamp. Has anyone tried changing their time/date to see if that's a workaround?

What are people complaining about? BLOPS4 you couldn't even have any content available on disc without having to download like 60GB patch for MP and Zombies. Sure, during the PS3 era there was mainly singleplayer but even then, you couldn't boot up MP without a day one patch. I feel people are complaining just to complain. Do you have an early copy? No? Then why give a shit? Its almost 2020...in Zimbabwe they are off with dial up...Cuba too. How can you not have internet in this day and age.

If you gonna say how you work at an oil rig hundreds of kilometers from land and have no wifi, well buddy you are getting paid 30K a month, maybe dont worry about not being able to play a game in the middle of the ocean.

Yeah, I don't like this, but at this point the internet is becoming so ubiquitous that it's probably going to be a non-issue for me.

But in principle, I will never like the idea of having to rely on the internet in some capacity to play offline content.

The issue isn't whether you have internet or not but whether you have a playable game, when the server are eventually turned off.

Nobody is to thick, people understand that it’s early and they shouldn’t have the disc.

the game probably does an online check once and then it opens. Prob not a patch prob just the servers ain’t kick started yet.

min 70 years time you will still have a dvdRom in your pc? Things will have changed by then. I mean how’s that old VHS collection going? Yeah you may still have a vhs player but if you still have the dvdrom drive then am sure you will still have the capability to go online and find the patch needed if it is indeed a patch.

most likely in 70 years people will buy it cheap in a digital store front to replay it, isn’t that what Sony and Microsoft are doing now? Selling older games again in their respective storefronts

sorryreplied to wrong poster

No-one owns games anymore. That's why I stopped collecting games early on this gen.

Discs are nothing more than a key card for a digital product that will exist for an undefined period of time.

Discs are only worth buying if you like to see pretty boxes lined up on a shelf (which is legit cool) or you want to redeem some of your money by trading in (which is what I do now).

The sooner gamers move on from this argument the better. The genie is out of the bottle, so no matter how hard you whinge, that is the way of the world. In 10 years time you won't even be able to buy the boxes anymore!

Accept the future and make peace with yourself and the environment.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA

The patch doesn't run on the same servers as the games online servers, but psn and Xbox Live

I understand that what I mean is that the patch will no longer be available. I usually delete games and re-install to make room considering the size of games this generation.

I still play my xbox 360, ps3, n64, dreamcast without any problems and would like to continue to do this for future generations.

Fundamentally your consumer rights are being eroded and if you don't mind then I understand but I wish to keep mine intact!

its kinda an activision thing to push more consumers toward digital. they are basically using the pc model from a few years ago where the disc just contains the steam installer or bnet installer. pretty sure this has happened with every release outside of sekiro for them.
they are very much against the used market.

Patch 1.03 is taking forever to download on PSN. This game is being delivered to us in multiple packages. Campaign Pack, Multiplayer Pack, Spec Ops pack, Patch 1.03, etc. You have the base game download too. If this was BC on PS5 and you could just download the SP then ok. I already know they've done this whole "download in segments", but its literally taking longer than a day to download everything on PSN.

I'm "insecure", I have "fragile masculity" & I need to "get a grip" because I don't respect an annoying little commie puppet who screams like a retard at the UN. Am I doing it right?

On what basis are you aligning her to a communist party? Or are you saying that anyone who has environmental concerns is automatically a communist?

In that case, yes you do need to get a grip.

You must wish everyone is a stupid naïve moron who doesn't get the concept of special interests & lobbyists dictating agendas. Because yes, Greta is the public face of far left lobbiests who're pushing for a far left solution (including greasing the palms of their friends who'll benefit from their environmental "solutions"). It's all very obvious & relies upon everyone adopting (or being forced...) a child like mindset & swallowing the con job i.e. being gullible to the point of retardation.

I have environmental concerns, as do most people (pollution, over population, overuse of resources etc.). Greta meanwhile is a little commie troglodyte puppet show for pious commie assholes who attack dissenters with a dishonest "you're bad for disrespecting a child" shield. Off topic done. This has f-all to do with Modern Warfare, but politics & topical bullshit does infect everything.

Lot's of nonsensical paranoid waffling here, but happy to keep it back on COD.
