I'm assuming that this helps with it's speed? Just trying to understand why it's so fast compared to what the Xbox has.

I am guessing since each chip has it's own channel the read speed will be more constant and will always be able to achieve that 5.5GB/s raw speed where if there were multiple chips per channel then the data has to be managed more if the items you are grabbing are on multiple chips on the same channel which can slow SSD speeds. That is just a guess on my part, I might be totally wrong on how I am looking at it, but that would explain why PC NVMe drives don't always hit that max speed in all the different types of reads (sequential, non-sequential, etc.).

something tells me he probably was warned before and his comments elswhere might have crossed the threshold and thus got himself a ban. That's how it works right? There's strike one on me so far, two more strikes and I am out of the game as well :(
he was timed-out a few times already I think. That is why he got permabanned

This sounds cool.

For instance, as you hold down Square to do a Venom Punch, you feel Spider-Man’s bio-electricity crackle across from the left side of the controller, culminating in the right side on impact.

Haptics are going to be literal game changers.

Great article explaining how different games will harness the power of the Dualsense. This is truly a next gen leap in controllers which we have not seen for quite some time.

I'm glad Sony is taking inspiration from Nintendo. Gaming isn't just about pixels for fucks sake....

I'm one of those people who believe a ps5 pro will release in 2023/2024 as an 8k30/4k60 higher raytracing visuals and visuals overall and better longer draw distances.

I predict something like a 8, 12 or 16 core zen 2 cpu running at between 4-5 Ghz to give the ps5 pro 50-100% performance over ps5's cpu.

GPU will have 72 active cu's and maybe 8 disabled with a higher clockspeed than ps5 because of better cooling solutions, maybe 2.5-2.8 Ghz speeds and 64-96 rops somewhere in between 25-35 tflops rdna 3
or rdna 4 PS5 pro need to be atleast 2.5 to 3 times more powerful than ps5 maybe even 4 times more powerful thanks to better architecture of rdna 3/4.

Memory will be upgraded to GDDR6X and the amount will increase to either 20 gbs or 24 gbs and the bandwidth will most likely increase to 880 gb/s to 1tb/s.

SSD will stay the same in terms of read/write speeds of 8-9 gb/s uncompressed and 5.5 gb/s compressed but whether it will have 825 gb or 1,65 tb of storage will depend on the overall cost of the other hardware parts.

I love the direction they are going. I really think Sony is on the money with this.

Extremely interested in what it means for Demon souls, games with a great atmosphere like that, what can the developers do to add tension, fear, etc with the audio and the controller.

What a time to be a gamer.

Pretty cool I guess. I like how they used blue light on the krakens suckers, ambient blue light and blue light bars throughout the commercial to mirror the console and controller. Nicely themed.

I image that haptics and adaptive triggers are really a tough sell for average consumer. They are not used to his kind of stuff. It's not something that you can literally show to user and they will understand the message right away like in case with pretty graphics, animations, raytracing, anything visual. It looks like Sony is going extra mile ensuring that people will finally perceive controller enhancements as something worth upgrading. At the same time it makes me wonder when Sony will approach audience in more traditional way flexing on showy graphics, 4K, framerates and so on. They can't just make controller their avant-garde. At least i hope they don't. I hope the console itself will receive attention anytime soon.

No

It really is, I'm actually bored of it now. Don't get me wrong I'm still hyped. I just wish they weren't being so cagey with information, cerny talked about teardown back in may and I was thinking it would be out by July at the latest 😂. Best to just sit back now as I wouldn't be surprised if it was late September with how it's been going. People were certain of a August big blow out...but here we are.

Cerny mentioned teardown back in March, but I hear you on the cagey stuff. Getting annoying, but hopefully we get a bulk of info soon.

Let’s say that the CPU is under heavy load due to AVX usage. As far as I know the XsX CPU will handle the load and the PS5 would have to underclock to stay under the power budget. No?
XSX has fixed it's CPU clock at 3.6ghz (or 3.8ghz unthreaded) does NOT guarantee it will run everything thrown at it without issue. The profilers used for developing will have identified problems that could crash the processors due to excessive power draw that lead to overheating, then will be upto the developers how to work around it such as using less intensive operations. It most likely will run heavy instructions such as multi-cycled AVX256/512, but not running in parallel or other intense workloads on multiple cores/threads. This could be one of the main reasons why it's hard to develop for XSX, when developers try to push it hard the profiler will say NO!

Whereas PS5 is 3.5ghz, but will only downclock in extreme situations like above, and likely be pushed harder before it downclocks thanks to the advanced cooling. Which would mean you can throw everything at it including the kitchen sink without it crashing

The fact that Cerny stated they had problems fixing the clock at just 3ghz would infer they have more unified L3 cache. This larger cache will get driven harder such as holding array for AVX, this would be a concentrated hotspot and that's why more advanced cooling is needed. If it was smaller cache would mean cache misses and then slow downs to fetch from RAM

8 core Zen3+ should suffice
Same SSD speed will suffice
72 CU RDNA 3 @ 21TF is expected
GDDR6X @ 1024 GB/s bandwidth

Can't wait for VR2.0 with haptic feedback. I really hope we will get some kind of gloves or such. That could be awesome!

Yup. Looks like they are working on new controllers complete with finger tracking. Very exciting stuff.

A recently published patent from Sony Interactive Entertainment suggests that the company is working on a new VR motion controller, similar to those for the Valve Index. Could this be a new PSVR 2 controller?

The patent for a “Controller Device” outlines an input mechanism for a “home-use game machine” that “detects movement of a user’s hand.” Not only that, but the kit features “a plurality of sensor units that detect the fingers of the user.” These can detect “the proximity or contact of a finger and outputs a finger detection signal indicating the state of proximity or contact of the finger.”

With the DualSense wireless controller and the power of haptics, we can make the combat [in Demon’s Souls] feel grittier, darker, and deadlier. Now you feel every blow as you strike down your enemies and cast each spell. You’ll experience the force of a titanic boss’ attack as you pull off a well-timed guard. Metal strikes metal when your foes block your attacks or you block theirs. That extra sensory feedback through the controller allows you to know your attack hit home and your perfectly-timed parry was a success, so you can react faster and more decisively.

We can also turn the simple act of pulling a lever to open a gate into a sensory experience. This is something that rumble could never do. It could never replicate the feeling of metal striking metal or fire crackling in your hand as you conjure magic. Haptics [are] integral to the experience, to immersing the player in the world and adding to the gameplay. The visual, aural, and tactile working together takes this new generation of gaming into the future. —

How's this not hype? Imagine even more addictive parrys, lol.
