Understand all the praise for Tetris Effect now. I never thought what Tetris needed was amazing graphics, yet here we are.

They’ve turned Tetris into something to just zen out and relax to, some crazy visual/audio meditation thing, and I couldn’t love it anymore.

They did do a really great job with the audio and visuals, though I prefer to use the boring traditional setting for the block colours and turn off the heavy visual effects because they're just a distraction.

I'm so fucking close to getting the platinum I just need another 180,000 rotations........

Lumines > Tetris

I actually haven't played Lumines ever but no puzzle game will ever be better than Tetris

Not even memeing

That does look chill

As a kid, I had both Meteos and Lumines simultaneously

Meteos.jpg

Having both a DS and a PSP felt like being a god circa 2005/2006.

I knew they were both by the same dude. Never realized it was the guy who made Rez and Space Channel 5 until recently though.

Makes sense he made Tetris Effect too after seeing the footage.

Yes it's really good, it had super smash bros style music, really fun stylus gameplay. Also excellent is Planet Puzzle League.

PPL was amazing. I almost don’t quite remember, but I think it had a ton of modes, awesome online for the time, cool visuals and music (I think they were definitely influenced by Meteos). It is definitely up there with everything we’re discussing.

DS puzzle games were so good.

If you like Meteos and Tetris Effect - there's no way you wouldn't love Lumines.

(I've never played Tetris Effect)

I just couldn’t see the hook of the game, or why it was fun. Lol. It actually really sucked, because I was all hyped to play, and felt like a weirdo for being the only person not to like it, lol.

It was pretty feature rich, it had a number of modes and also daily stat tracking which was weird, it felt like it was trying to do the same sort of thing as Brain Age with that.

The visuals were cool abstract backgrounds and the music was one of my favourite things about the game. It was also great to use the stylus for that game instead of the old cursor style.

It's hard to remember what things were like back when touch screen based gaming was a foreign concept. It's so intuitive now, but people were legit confused. Coupled with the dual screens, the DS was such an odd thing.

They even had that goofy thumbstrap to utilize the second screen as an analogue stick for like Super Mario 64 DS or Rayman 2 DS. It was like the wild west back then.

I played the shit out of Brain Age Sudoku, it was a pretty decent version.

The New York Times Crossword game was good too. There was another one called Club House games, it had a bunch of card and board games, and other actiony stylus stuff like bowling and darts. DS was good shit. The only thing I use mine for now is a bootleg Tetris The Grandmaster 3 rom sometimes

Yeah, I don’t think people who didn’t live through it, will ever get it. It was so strange, but so awesome when the games that started using it right came out.

Honestly, even some of the earlier games were good. I still have no idea what Feel The Magic even is, lol, but it was so much fun. Same with the Super Mario 64 minigames. Or even the Ridge Racer with the touchscreen wheel. Yes, I actually did that.

Haven't played through it, but I was thinking Ghost Trick, Layton, Ace Attorney.

Thank you for reminding me I still need to play Ghost Trick. It looked amazing.

I remember being in Biology freshman year and playing Mario Kart DS with a friend on the opposite end of the classroom during a lecture.

It was mindblowing stuff

I remember the first time I went online with Kart. It was absolutely magical, five minute long wait times and all.

Compare that to me constantly complaining about online games today. ‘It lagged for half a second!’. I feel so spoiled, lol.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
Trying to ask anything about assassin creed V is impossible now. Its all NExt Gen thread bullshit from the same exact people. This is the future now isn't it?
