EDIT: Gonna mute this post as I just wanted to share the information! I understand it isn't big and I wish I had more to share, I just thought it would be nice to share this seeing as it is from someone who is actually in the loop at Playstation and isn't one of these random redditors or twitter users who's rumours we share for weeks on end. I'm sorry if anyone had huge expectations clicking this, that wasn't my intention. This was just to put those at ease who I have seen on here regarding there being no event this summer due to radio silence and these shadow drops possibly being what we get in place of a traditional event. I'll try and do better for my next post and I apologise if I've pissed off anyone, just was too excited to not share this with a community I adore being a part of! Keep on keeping on!

Hello my dear Gaffers, hope you and all your loved ones are keeping well and that you're having a great day wherever you are.

Now before you guys laugh as this is the typical generic "my uncle works for Nintendo" vibe of news, I have had this vetted by @Mod of War and am happy to show my evidence to any other Mod on the team.

I have a good friend who bagged himself a job at Playstation in a role I won't specify! Now due to him having to sign enough NDAs to fill out his bedroom twice over I don't ever get direct news from him, but he has managed to give me little hints here or there, I got one about the delaying of the original Future of Gaming event due to BLM, and I got a small hint about the price of the PS5 Digital. I don't get a lot from it and I never ask for it but when I do get hints I don't like to tell normally.

But on this occasion due to how many people I have seen talking negatively about it being certain that Sony won't be holding any sort of event or major media presence this summer, I thought it would be good to post this little tease or tip of the hat as I'd like to call it over what to expect this summer.

Now this is nothing huge, just a reassuring message, I am not an insider and will never have news on everything PS, I am just lucky as fuck to have a close friend who has succeeded in his career and has managed to bag a job working for Jimmy Boy Ryan.

I will drop below the DM I received, and this was in response to me and him catching up on how it's been at work recently and how I was hoping for a big summer event from Sony given the radio silence surrounding that. I am sorry I couldn't get anything major but I thought this would be appreciated and if I get anything else which I feel can be shared I'll be happy to go through the vetting processes once again and share it to you all.

As we were talking about a potential Sony event in this convo I would assume this is what he was hinting towards, but regardless it seems like we'll get big news in one format or another this summer!

I don’t think you should feel that way. Many probably feel it was common sense that Sony will have an event soon, but Sony still haven’t confirmed it themselves, so your information just makes the likelihood of an event increase. Thanks for sharing.

It's really a shame fans have been reduced to speculating for weeks on end about the potential existence of a show because Sony, in their divine wisdom, has decided to only randomly drop info on us these days. Someone should tell them it's pretty bad marketing/communication from a fan's point of view.

June has come and gone and we're still deliberating on whether or not we are getting a summer show. You know the same show, more or less, we have had every year going back to the beginning of the platform. Shit it's July and we don't even have a clear picture of the fall line up. They can use covid as an excuse but bottom line it's bad messaging.

As a fan I gotta say it's become harder to be excited about the future of their platform when they won't, you know, tell us shit about the future of their platform. Call me crazy but I miss the days of predicable annual shows and more consistent communication with fans.

Skipping E3 because of a feud with the ESA is one thing, but skipping the entire E3 season is something completely different. Being mum about your plans is absolutely needless. There is nothing to be gained from keeping your fans in the dark for months just so you can announce and hold an event within a span of a week.

It makes no sense whatsoever from a company that blew everyone away with E3 2015 and 2016. It convinced everyone that PS was the real deal and Sony was going all in. And they did it by showing us games. Not by telling us that they have created partnerships with new studios or have 25 games in development. Show, dont tell.

Their last conference was back in september. we are in July. literally two months away. Since then they have done nothing but regurgitate the same games they announced back in June and September. There is nothing new to get excited over. Just one bad news after another. And the way they do is insulting. They go to PS blogs and announce all the bad things by sliding them in as if we wont notice the fact that GT7 and GOW are now cross gen and that every PS exclusive will only be exclusive at launch. They dont communicate with fans. They dont go on podcasts. They barely ever talk to journalists in the gaming media choosing instead of interview with mainstream websites like wired. No one can ask them when their next conference is. No one because they hide like anti-social nerds.

Nintendo and MS announced that they would be at E3 back in January. It made everything so much easier. We knew we would get an event in the summer. No one wanted to know the exact date. Why cant sony do the same?

I said this earlier. We take out our frustration on forum members like Heisenberg and now Donjorghino because the actual folks who deserve criticism are nowhere to be found. At least these guys are brave enough to put their name on the line and face the music.

We get rumors with everyone though. And then through official announcements they get proven true or false. It's just how this works when some info is hidden from us.

What can I say? Sometimes you just want to drop some hints to keep fans excited but you do not want to spoil anything.
I also want to point out that for those saying Sony is lacking communication it is indeed true. Their PR department had lots of "changes" and gone silently compared to the PS4 era ( shu was basically replying to everyone at twitter )
But the action before words approach is better. Also, anyone who knows playstation modus operandi can notice that there's a pattern - Sony when is very quiet is focusing on surprises.

Nintendo was still doing smaller specific directs those years though with games generally be released a couple months after announcement like when they announced the Mario 3D all-stars during a surprise Mario anniversary direct and released the game like two months later.

Yeah but we live in a time where we only consume and don’t appreciate. We be like : ok, next.

after one event is finished we straight look to the next one and can’t wait for it to begin. We never stay still and live the moment. Next big unannounced game/event etc is always more tempting than the ones who are available right now.
And once our own expectations are not met , we go on gaf/Twitter und blame Sony for the silence.

It depends more on how easily someone is "satisfied" rather than what they will show. Some people are satisfied with CG trailers and in-game cutscenes others want a bit more than that.
