I think the strategy MS has is the right one and that is why we are seeing a lot of positive articles like this. Its not a paid advertisement from MS. This is the general sentiment from the gaming community. Most of the tech sites and gaming sites agree MS is doing things the right way. It will take a few years for Sony to catch up and build a gaming infrastructure/service that is really good like MS has with Xcloud/Gamepass. I think that's what it is. MS is finally matching Sony in first party game quality but Sony doesn't have anything that rivals Xcloud/Gamepass so we see more pro Xbox articles from gaming sites.

Xbox is interesting but largely irrelevant as a MS shareholder. The only major thing is Minecraft imo cause of DAU and it's metaverse potential.

this industry keeps evolving because no one leader managed to lock in a monopoly. it got close several times between the big 3 (S/N/M) but others keep making a comeback with market altering offers for the consumer. Sony didn't make a mistake with the PS5 like MS(XB1 launch) and Nintendo(WiiU) did so the market change will be slow. Xbox is making a slow crawl back like the PS3 did. so Sony better evolve their offers and not drag on by trying to maximize short term profit.

Last year, they just released a gaming console that can play 99.99% of the previous console's catalogue. Same games have even improved performance and/or resolution. In the PS+ sub,you were also given 20 or so games from PS4.

There's also this rumour that we will have PSNow and PS+ combined into one that will allow you to stream PS1-PS3 games.

Great features and not really touched on in the article, some of even the 360 stuff like Gears 3 can look really good still.

Unfortunate turn of events for Sony really, the pandemic and resulting chip shortage is starting to hurt them badly, now Xbox is starting to get more mindshare with GP and with no ps5 to buy anywhere this just gives Xbox a free pass to jump back into the game. Microsoft are really lucky it turned out like this because had there been no pandemic and no chip shortage this gen would have probably ended up like last gen for them ala Sony completely outselling them on all fronts and removing them from the picture since everyone would have been too busy playing their ps5.

I've said it before, but Sony really should have followed Microsoft and made a Series S type of console. Microsoft is cleaning up with the Series S and gaining marketshare since the PS5 is not readily available (neither is the XSX to be fair). With Sony starting to port games to PC a Series S type of console would have worked perfectly. They already have the port house to port to PC. They could easily use those same studios to downport to the weaker console. Oh well. Sony did not have the foresight Microsoft did at the start of this gen.

Hilarious how people think the £1/$1 is a "Loophole" it's an offer that Microsoft want to do, to get people to try the service. You don't know what the retention rate is and since they seem happy to continue that offer then they must be happy with it being available.
The "optimal" experience would be the PC version on high end hardware, Microsoft don't seem to care where you play as long as you do.
The Series S is on the same GDK as the PC versions, the minimum specs are lower than Series S so your point has no relevance at all.
Gears Tactics and Flight Simulator were released before Forza and Halo, both high scoring on MC. We can add Psychonauts 2 also, another high scoring game. Top quality releases.

I'll go ahead and throw some words into the ether on this. Just because you can use the $1 conversion for 3yrs does not equate to everyone doing that. In reality, probably a small subset of users are doing that. Hell, I'm a huge Xbox fan and I only added an additional 1yr card before converting. When you look at Amazon and see the #1 Gold/PSN card is the higher priced monthly option, you get the idea that most aren't going to buy 3yrs of gold to get this deal in the first place.

PS5 rollout has been confusing, but due to the success of PS4, it honestly doesn't matter.

Sony's message and brand awareness this gen has been average at best (Backwards compatibility is confusing, We believe in a generation, but also cross-gen, Demon Souls has Ray Tracing, wait no it doesn't, Gt7 is PS5 exclusive, wait oops it's not, and the whole road to PS5 by Mark Cerny allowed Xbox to gain the power advantage when it might not even have one. Sony never did anything to stop the narrative, which is really dumb) But only hardcore gamers care about the stuff above, the brand loyalty of Playstation is very high. Because Sony will ALWAYS deliver in the long run.

For the first time since the 360 eras, Xbox has a really good foundation and they've made it clear for gamers to understand (Gamepass Day 1 baby, and by buying Bethesda they showed their seriousness about first-party games again. + the whole cloud thing, the launch of Steam deck, it's all hinting toward an Apple Esque ecosystem within the gaming world)


Most of my casual friends don't even know about Gamepass yet but give it time, it'll become a problem in the next 3-5 years once it really starts gaining momentum when Elder Scrolls, Doom, Starfield, and Fable all launch day 1 and Microsoft just keeps shoving that day 1 game pass phrase down peoples throat


All Sony needs to do IMO is

1. Branch out into different genres of games; Microsoft has Fable, Doom, StarField, Elder Scrolls, Age Of Empires, the variety is crazy
2. Focus a bit more on solid MP games; the lasting value and profits of a good MP game outlast any SP game and that's a fact. It's just a big risk because making a good Live Service game is hard
3. put some effort into PS Now you lazy fucks. Valve tier laziness

Again, you have no clue about it. Just because you own a ms share, doesnt mean you know how they operate. I work in a company, and the company always gives us a target for profit. What they do, is increase the last target we had, so we can make more profit. Gamepass reached their last target expectation. This time, they increased more than the last target, and it didnt reach where they hoped. That doesnt it was a failure.

That is how subscription model works. You offer low fees, to attract new customers. Once the customer is hooked to your service, they wont cancel it. If they cancel it, they wont be able to use the deal again, after certain months. If they want to sub it again, they will need to pay 10$-15$. I was a sub to the service, and max I had was 4 months. If I am an xbox user, I am forced to pay for xbox live, or be subbed to gamepass. Either way, MS wins.

I made a grand total of zero thread praising Sony, so I wouldn't earn much money. It must be the 20th thread praising Xbox in recent months (didn't actually count), yet nothing actually changed, sales apparently still favor Sony, so why the constant cheerleading ?

People are happy that xbox is changing their approach in this gen. Xbox las gen was horrible. It was so bad, that the only notable games were halo, forza, and gears. That is how bad last gen xbox was. Now, they got gamepass to start with this gen, 1st party xbox games are all day1 on the service. We saw fps boost, and most important, BC games. That is all on 1st year. People have a hard time processing these information. Which is why you see all these praises nonstop.

Why would it make a blood bath ? Everybody can play it on PC or Series S / X consoles, with or without Gamepass. It's a good thing for everybody if it's a new AAA IP different from the usual Forza / Gears / Halo.

Its all about those games being exclusive to xbox. Some people trolled, or were serious about landing on competitor console. We had post after post, about those games appearing on those console, or why it should appear on those console. And its because its bethesda main studio game, after skyrim and fallout 4.

I am neutral, so these things dont bother me. I am strictly PC guy. But that doesnt mean I cant enjoy other systems. That is just dumb thing, to stop yourself from enjoying games. And my most important rule, MS and Sony are big corporation. They dont give a crap about us plebs. There is always new generation which will replace us. And those are the targets for these corporation. Defending them, does nothing for me, except waste my time and my energy. No reason to make my self angry on behalf of them. I like games, and that is all that matters to me.
