You make games like Street Fighter, FF and Spiderman exclusive, now you have to see the same happen to other games.

Buy a Playstation or a PC if you want to play those games.
If you are too poor clearly your shares in Microsoft...which im assuming you have if you are gonna DRide like that arent paying you enough.

Agreed.

Let gamepass on PS and don't try to fight them with Spartacus. As the saying goes if you can't beat em, join em.
Am I the only one thinking that gamepass in Nintendo and PSX consoles is a beyond absurd idea?

How’s that going to work? They will port every game? Isn’t that a ridiculous amount of work and money? Will it be through streaming? Where’s Sony’s cut from subscriptions? Will people buy subscriptions through PSN? Outside PSN? Why would people buy PSN store games if they get them from GP with their subscription? Isn’t that letting the Trojan horse inside?

I don’t get it.

I don't think MS wants Game Pass on Sony consoles unless it is through streaming only.

Makes sense.

Bethesda games havent disappeared from PS. And that deal was first announced in Sept 2020!

Now what is unknown is status of future games with no contract, and contract of existing games. You never know, maybe Bethesda games on PSN have a contract date to Dec 31, 2022. And on Jan 1, 2023 MS yanks them from their digital store.

Nobody said a game already on PSN store has to be there forever.

It's shocking how some people don't get such a simple point.

Microsoft will STILL profit from all the sales. They can try to find ways to encourage people to play games on Xbox, but by keeping the game on Playstation they are basically guaranteed to profit at least as much as currently Activision is.
Microsoft is obviously interested in being a publisher. Publishing on PlayStation is a no brainer.
Make some pretty killer perks to play it on Xbox and many people will jump consoles anyhow on top of keeping it on PS, win win for Xbox

Me either. The economics and logistics of it doesn't make any sense at all. And then there are the separate agreements in place between Sony and the developers whose games are also on Xbox Game Pass. This would be ridiculously complex and frankly, just not realistic.

Yeah… No future call of Duty titles are coming after 2022. Xbox people said the same about Bethesda but none of the new games they announced - Redfall and Starfield are coming to PS5. They said Exclusive at the show….

This is Bethesda and starfield/tes all over again. until the deals close were going to gave these vague statements and different interpretations of them. But when the deal closes they'll probably come out and be clear and precise. What it's going to be I don't know. Who knows what Microsoft intends to do.

Just think of needing to sign into PSN then have to sign into XBL, then have to wait 6 months to get the latest DLC.....ohh and all those NOT Playstation skins
All at a cost.

Xbox gamers....all that shit is "free".

Streamers are almost certainly gonna abandon PS cuz you know they need the latest content to show off.

no it's Warzone. Warzone is the BR that ties into all coming Call of Duty games. and that will remain. look at the wording used. he could have said that Call of Duty will release on PlayStation going forward, but that was not what he said. he said it will "remain" on PlayStation.

If he was talking about Warzone, he wouldn't have used the word "desire". That's the crux of his statement.

They'd like to make something happen if it's, y'know, at all *possible*.

It's like something out of The Godfather.

I ain't got a clue tbh

Maybe it'll start as streaming only as they port games. Maybe it'll be separate offerings like PC game pass, so you'll have a significantly smaller library that basically only consists of Xbox First Party. I don't think there would be any of these third party games on PS gamepass just because i'd assume Microsoft would have to compensate those devs for lost sales on PS too.

It all sounds like a logistical nightmare

All valid points and I have no idea what it would look like either.

Phil Spencer email to Epic said he hadn’t given up on xCloud on PS/Nintendo, so it looks like they want an xCloud app.

In MS perfect world it’s probably be the full library. If Sony reluctantly get dragged down this road I can only see them relenting to MS first party. This would still be a really substantial library of games, well over a hundred.

I can see an xCloud app being granted by Sony as long as they get a cut and MS keep selling annualised CoD on the PS Store too.

Ok, it’s through steaming, fine. Surely the price will need to be slashed since you’re accessing a less than ideal version of the content? How is streaming going to work for competitive multiplayers? I tried Forza through xCloud and couldn’t stand the very short lag. COD fanatics are just supposed to shrug and deal with streaming lag for their competitive shooter?

I don’t get it.

what relationship? Sony destroyed you guys last generation and even clowned you on your polices when the Xbox one launched. When has Sony ever given you anything? A relationship works two ways. Now you spent 70 BILLION dollars on an acquisition and want to share the biggest slice of the pie with Sony?? Phil has lost his mind

It would be streaming yes. They want to bring it to everything, tvs, chromebooks, phones, whatever.

They can buy subs both in and out of PSN, I imagine the MS/Sony split of the cut would be a big negotiation point. MS could give Sony their 30% cut AND raise the cost 30% if bought on PSN. This way MS still gets their money, and if gamers want to save money then can subscribe outside of PS5 and then log into their accounts.

As for why would Sony let the Trojan horse in, yes, that's the real crux of the deal, and the real reason Sony doesn't want to do this. It probably won't happen, but MS has an easy out and say they tried.

Maybe Phil's offer is PS will still get COD, but it'll be a 3 year delay. Take it or leave it. Similar to how Sony does PC ports for games that came out 5 years ago. And Sony doing two year lock out agreements for games against Xbox.

Of course It’ll continue to be on PlayStation.

But XBOX will sure as hell make sure COD is best to play on XBOX

For those not getting it yet...I will break it down a little.

  • All current COD games will remain on Playstation. MS will not remove/stop selling COD games that currently exist on Playstation.
  • Any contracts that currently exist for COD on Playstation will continue to be honored even after MS takes complete ownership. This means, that if the COD contract that I believe goes through 2023 means that any COD game that comes out in 2022 and 2023 that is under contract with Sony will be honored.
  • Once all these pre-existing contracts have ended, I believe that COD games made beyond 2023 (so COD in 2024) will be Xbox/PC/Cloud Exclusive. This is my speculation.

This conversation makes me want to kill myself :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The word 'desire' is the only word worth noting. Sony are hardly going to stop them putting Call of Duty on PlayStation under traditional release models, so there's no 'desire' required unless it's a different model that Sony has to agree to.

Which Spencer has been open about, and how that will work, forever now.

They want all their games on PlayStation, on their terms. And on Switch. And on streaming sticks, blu-ray players, smart fridges...

I think people are underestimating the importance of Microsoft and Sony's potential deal with Azure. That is certainly in play here. Folks like to reference the $3 trillion company Microsoft is, but Azure is the reason why they are a $3 trillion company. Not gaming.

Think of it this way. Microsoft gets paid on the sale of every PlayStation Call of Duty game and also gets paid by hosting those Call of Duty games in Azure......for PlayStation. This is just good business.

Imagine this phone call after MS yanks Call of Duty from PS:

Jim Ryan: Hey Phil, I just told Nadella that we are not going to need nearly as much Azure resources as we thought we would.

Phil Spencer: Really? Why is that?

Jim Ryan: Why the fuck do you think, asshole?

Well Microsoft is a software developer than a hardware one , at this moment Sony should negotiate to them as they do with Square or Capcom..

Maybe they can even negotiate with Microsoft that next Call od duty is a PS5 exlusive.....

That's why it won't happen.

MS would want just an app on PS, that only uses Xbox accounts, without giving Sony a cut of any sub revenue by forcing users to subscribe off console.

Sony would want MS to publish all their games on PS Store, and require use of PSN account, and a cut of sub revenue (like EA Play).
