Microsoft President Brad Smith: Not only will COD will continue to be on Playstation, we'd like to bring it to Nintendo devices

The Switch can't run a modern CoD on its extremely limited hardware.
Several AAA teams release their games on Switch via sttreaming, like the recentt Kingdom Hearts collection that they could even have ported. MS could do the same to put any future AAA game there.

Or well, many people ported mobile games to Switch. They would port Call of Duty Mobile for Switch. Or to ask some random 2nd tier team to make an exclusive Switch game, or to port an old CoD game.

There will be Activision and Blizzard exclusives, without a doubt. I guarantee you that there will be CoD titles exclusive to MS platforms too. And the ones that aren’t will have Sony subsidizing the development of even more exclusives. Either way, MS wins. They literally own ActiBlizz, there is no universe in which that doesn’t work to their advantage.

Agree with almost everything you're saying here. That Candy Crush money is no joke and a huge get for Microsoft. It's a shame people kept focusing on CoD when CC should've been the main topic of conversation surrounding the transaction.

I honestly don't think it's about one game. Most of these discussions we have revolve around current industry consolidation and how it will impact the future. And it's fun to speculate.
I get it - but it is what it is.

Consolidation will continue to happen and each company will ultimately choose to do what they wish to do with their newly acquired game companies / IP in their own best interests.

What MS (or Sony, or Nintendo... ) say today may/can/will eventually change at some point based on market conditions and impact to their bottom line.

Taking something said by an executive at face value today day will change in the future. That's why everything they say is so vague - because nothing is ever written in stone and subject to change at a moment's notice.

Companies have to adapt in near real-time nowadays and often say things in the public forum to calm and allay fears in order to complete the task at hand. Read what you will into these comments - but ultimately, I'm willing to bet there are giant asterisks next to each comment made.

Right now it appears that CoD will be targeted multi-platform - but at what cost to the end-user? EVERYTHING that MS is doing currently is targeted towards a single purpose... to grow their platform.

Lol I wonder how many people will listen to this guy say they want to keep all titles available “today” on the the platforms they exist on and continue to support them to equal all other mainline future COD, over watch and Warcraft future titles will also be on other platforms. Lol these forums will be interesting to watch after this deal closes and things start to become reality.

The fact that they mention COD on Switch
just kills any remaining of the discussion.
They want gamepass on all the other non windows, non xbox platforms.
No, because Sony and Nintendo won't allow them to put GP on PS or Switch.
He talks about selling games on PS and Switch, because it's what it makes sense and what it would give them money.

Sales on PS and Switch could help to reduce/compensate the loses that AAA games would have by being given away almost for free day one on PC and Xbox via GP.

It could be a lot clearer.

The Switch can't run a modern CoD on its extremely limited hardware. So, unless Microsoft is spinning up a Switch porting studio to start re-building the games exclusively for Nintendo's hardware - unlikely - this worries me that they're talking about streaming. "Here you go PlayStation fans, just as we promised: Call of Duty on PlayStation 5. Just stream the game from xCloud through your Game Pass subscription and you'll have all the CoD you want!".

What are you on about? You think Nintendo would never release a successor to the Switch?

He said ‘Nintendo’. Not Switch.

Sony fanboys seem really interested in what Microsoft is doing these days.

Did anyone ever play Black Ops 2 on the Wii U?

Pointer based FPS was fucking godly. I had never played an online FPS with a controller (and hadn't even played a FPS campign since the GC days) but within a month I was able to regularly top the leaderboard. So good.

MS will need additional studios to get those Nintendo ports out on a yearly basis. Maybe they can use id Software

Cloud Editions here we go. Backdoor that Xcloud in somehow.
You put your left arm in
Your left arm out
In, out, in, out
You shake it all about
You do the hokey copey
And you turn around
That's what it's all about
Woah, the hokey copey
Woah, the hokey copey
Woah, the hokey copey
Knees bent
Arms stretched
Ra-ra-ra

Couldn't be any clearer than this. This is not Phil here. This is the MS president himself.

Not only are COD games staying on Playstation but they're coming to Switch as well.

It's obvious they just want to make as much money as possible.

It’s not as much about money as it is brand building. MS game studios logo will be all over these games.

Warzone and next years cod is next Gen only. Good luck bringing that over to the switch. There is a reason why ghosts was the last cod on Nintendo consoles.

Come on now.

A next gen game these days is just a previous gen game with faster loading times, and higher resolution and details.

Easy to port to the switch, use 720p and set all PC options to low.

I also doubt very much next years CoD will be next gen only. Unless of course the chip shortage suddenly ends and 100 million more PS5s and series X's are out in the wild.

Those are cross gen games. Not next Gen.

And the next warzone is already confirmed to e next Gen only releasing next year. If their f2p game is next Gen, they paid will definitely be next Gen only.

You know what was also confirmed as next gen only

All PS5 games, such as Horizon Forbidden West and GT7. We live is different times, and cross gen is so easy to do. No one is going to leave money on the table for the sake of changing some options.

Moderated wildly
When we look back on this in a year or two once some big player like Amazon, apple or google really makes a step into the acquisition’s or console space we will all realise that Sony and MS we’re trying to ensure they were holding the door for as long as possible.

Sigh. Can’t have a normal conversation with people on this board anymore.

That’s what games have always been, the same code, just better graphics, gameplay and frame rates.

The only difference now is that graphics have kind of hit a plateu as well with animation advancements. They’ve gotten so good at it that unless there is some mind blowing technological jump, we won’t see any massive changes in these departments, just slightly improved and refined over the coming years.

Of course the code has changed too not as much as people would think. The same kind of techniques used to code a game 10+ years ago are still being used today.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
Microsoft: we're bringing COD and all Activision Blizzard games, as well as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout to PS5 and Switch now and for the rest of the generation.

Fanboy: No they won't, they're lying (I don't want you to be able to play those games).
Pretty funny that understanding official messaging can be interpreted as fanboyism but not your posts using them to make your own interpretations.
I felt a great disturbance, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to enjoying ActiBlizz's next AAA project on my PS5.
This guy thinks new IPs will be multiplat.

I'm on about exactly what I wrote?

Let's presume Microsoft elects not to bring COD to the Nintendo Switch, but it does bring it to the "Switch 2". What do we think that the hardware target for the Switch 2 might be? What are the chances of it being comparable to the PlayStation 5? I'd wager that's pretty slim - Nintendo has given up chasing cutting edge hardware. A "Switch 2" would likely still be behind the PS4 or Xbone's specs. Do you think a next-gen only Call of Duty is going to get a native version for the "Switch 2"? Once again, I think the chances are pretty slim. And that leaves streaming - a pretty sub-optimal way to experience these games.

Wild how a lot of Xbox fans are in denial over this, getting a bit crazy. Starting to look like a lot of people put all their energy believing this was the moment Xbox would “destroy” PlayStation, and they don’t want to believe in what’s actually happening.

It’s getting a bit uncomfortable, some of you need to settle down. There’s potentially something much bigger going on the industry.

Don't mind me I'm just dropping off some quotes from memory lane.

I was tempted to include comments from individuals on the other end of the conversation, but I don't want to be petty. Yet.
You should likely stop dropping that quote. Sony is only 17% of AB revenue. And I assume a large chunk of that is from Warzone.

Only a month ago Phil said its their desire to keep COD on PS, what's changed? Surely they would of already made that decision when they bought AB
