How can you possibly know this when we have yet to see even a second of actual gameplay?
Them delaying it tell us otherwise, and you'll likely be all the more thankful for that decision.
We have certain people already declaring it the game of the generation. Don't look for reason where there is none.

It's especially embarrassing when you realize PlayStation's gotten more out of Zenimax post-acquisition (Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo timed exclusives) than Xbox has, and they didn't need to spend $7.5 billion to get it.

What CEO is going to be cheery while realizing that fact?

Not sure how games getting delayed would be embarrassing these days. Not exactly like everyone else is on time and MS are the only ones having issues. 🤷‍♂️

The timed Sony exclusives make for a funny anecdote but were obviously known upfront. I can see it being frustrating more than embarrassing, especially since Starfield was looking like the centerpiece of their year (at least from what we know so far).

Weird part about this delay is when a game that already had a date set for release, when it gets delayed it comes with a new date set for release.

But this one is just a vague 2023..How long will it be? 6 months? 1 year?

Considering they showed the 11/11 date multiple times, I'd say it shouldn't be a long delay. Probably a few months at most.

Ah, Common sense. A rare commodity on GAF.
Sony likes to sit back and wait for everyone to reveal their cards before they play. If GOW does launch this year, perhaps they buy Santa Monica a month or two more then planned. I’m sure they are salivating at having the uncontested premiere game launch for the holidays.

The actor who plays Kratos said the main reason behind the 2021 to 2022 release was that he got a bad back injury, needed several months to recover and they waited for him instead of hiring someone else to be on time.

2 or 3 weeks ago the animator director of the game said in Twitter the'll release it in 2022.

In the PSN database is listed for September 30th, 2022 but very likely it's a placeholder (maybe for that quarter).

GoWR already has been under development for 4 years, the same it took GoW 2018 to be developed. But this time will be a direct sequel instead of a full blown reboot on a new engine and setting that makes many changes to the series and the genre, so it would require way less work.

We can be very confident it will be released this year, specially now Zelda 2 and Starfield won't be there to compete with it this year, they will be free to capitalize that H2 2022 free of big seller competition exclusives. Sony will have other games for next year that will compete against BotW 2 or Starfield, like Spider-Man 2.

I think Redfall is coming in H1 2023 (I actually thought it'd get delayed to Q4 2022). Starfield will be their big Fall 2023 game. I'm also basing this on Jason's comments. If the game was/is in a Cyberpunk-type state, it will require a bit more time than just 4-6 months of polish.

CP2077 took 15 months to fix the technical issues. The game still doesn't have the content that marketing implied pre-launch.

If Starfield doesn't have the content problems and that "Cyberpunk" comparison was just devs being hyperbolic, then, yes, they can do Q2 2023. Otherwise, I foresee an H2 release date. Besides, a game of this scope (a Bethesda open-world is always huge with lots of content) will require many months even if it is just polishing, optimization, and bug fixes. Just my guess though.
Yeah I'm guessing October/November 2023 for Starfield. Hopefully I'll have a new GPU by then.

Microsoft banked a lot on this acquisition delivering for 2022, IMO. As the output around it hasn’t been star studded (yes, regardless of whatever metacritic “publisher of the year” awards say).

Major kick in the nuts here if you are a XB gamer, and a lot of crow to be eaten for many people.

Redfall doesn’t look that good. Why the hype? Just looks like another fps game, and not up to the caliber of pre-Deathloop Arkane games.

It was likely a joint decision between the two parties but something Phil Spencer pushed for. Phil is absolutely desperate for a big new Xbox game and they needed something good to show after the Halo debacle from the year prior. There was also the burning question about whether Starfield would be exclusive at the time, but simply rolling a trailer and announcing it was exclusive wouldn't be enough. They needed a date too.

Why did they need the bolded?

Just trying to find out what's the point in throwing a date out, if MS knew they couldn't hit it.
Well I’m not sure if the date given was just nice in theory or something they really thought possible. What’s stranger to me is showing that elaborate Redfall reveal, a game no one seems to be excited for, and then giving us a Summer 22 release date. I don’t understand what’s going on over there.

im not convinced that any games are coming out xbox, playstation or otherwise...for the rest of the year.

i look at the Coming Soon section of the xbox store...and Saints row is like the next "big" game listed. Which is half a year away

I'd say wait until they show us Ragnarok again. If they don't announce a date by then you know what's going to happen.

Phil Spencer better be hitting up Louis C.K.'s sign guy for June 12th.

But seriously, wtf?
What happened to Starfield being in the polish phase of production? Horseshit.
Surely they show something on June 12th that is actually coming out this year, right? RIGHT?!?

Final phase of production?

Who said that btw?
