There's a difference between not caring about numbers and using numbers to gauge a consensus.
If you understand statistics and analysation, you will find review score data is still helpful with the right amount of contribution. For example, Ragnarok scored an average of 94 over 120+ critic reviews. 120+ reviews is a large number made up of different opinions from 'mostly' credible sources, that data would tell you that the average gamer is more likely to like it then not like it. You can use that to guage risk if you are on the fence about buying a game you are interested in. Obviously, there are other factors like personal preference of the type of game, theme etc. And you can take whatever information you want to form your opinion, that is up to you and your opinion, but to say numbers say nothing about a game at all is simply not true.
