Yoshi-P: Final Fantasy 16 will flex the PlayStation 5's power, No Loading Screens

During a recent Final Fantasy XIV livestream, Yoshi-P had some interesting things to say about the development of Final Fantasy XVI and how it will look and play on the PS5. The producer says that FF16 will essentially be a testament to the PlayStation 5's enthusiast-grade performance.

Yoshi-P also commented that the recent Final Fantasy XVI Revenge trailer was all in real-time: "It's all real-time rendering. No loading! It's become a game that is like 'look at the power of the PS5!" Yoshida-san said during the stream, as translated by Genki.

Nice to see Final Fantasy back to being that powerhouse franchise that shows off the power of a new Playstation console again. We kind of lost that the last two generations

I mean, he isn't going to say anything else.

It will be nice seeing quick cuts from one scene to a totally different scene with no delay though, like back in the cartridge or pre-rendered backgrounds age. It's nice that games generally have super quick load times on the PS5, but it's annoying that the transition and loading screens themselves take up so much time. I'm pretty sure fading in an out of the loading screens in Crisis Core on the PS5 take longer than the actual loading time.

Oh, come on. If there's no loading screens, then it's not flexing the PS5's anything. If there were loading screens...whooooo doggie!
The PS5 had an entire advertisement run about the power of their SSD and spoke of it with high confidence since the very first conference on it. Also people kept online making gifs about it(like this one):

It is a flex, just not the flex you were hoping for.

When they first showed the game it looked like a ps4 game. The game is certainly looking better but I hope they continue to polish it (I'm sure they will). No loading would be very welcome.

That's really not that special. Not after all the hoopla we've heard over these past years what faster data transfer rates can bring to game design. Ratchet and Clank to this day is the only game that showed anything slightly meaningful.

well, more or less. FFXIII took a long while to be released, but when it came out it was definetly one of the prettiest games of the generation.

unfortunately because of its mixed reception(and gamers favoring western titles) they went the lower budget route and lost that recognition.

FFXV for what it was, despite its downgrade looked very nice, alongside Kingdom Gearts 3 and FFVIIR. they just took too long.

i think a big part of FFXVI impact is being one of the first(!) 'real' next gen games released, two years later where even Sony and other western developers have been focusing on cross gen releases. its a big production for Square

And both those games came out in year 3 of the console cycle rather than year 2 which changes expectations a bit. Like you said, this generation got off to a slow start so XVI acts as a new generation show piece for the hardware

Gow didn’t have loading either. Hate how the power of the ps5 just means no losing nowadays. Imagine being Mark cerny spending half a decade creating that io block only to have it relagated to loading.
Are you kidding me here? Gow is full of forced and slow actions that (don't) hide (well) the loadings. The slow pace design of the game is mostly caused by the necessity of constantly loading the next part. It's so awful in that game. It reeks of it. And don't forget the first loading.

Of course, I know all that. The point is that loading is hardly a next gen feature. it can be masked. No one ever said LOADING and NEXT GEN in the same sentence before this gen. Next gen was always about pushing visuals, physics, destructions, enemy counts, AI. Who the fuck says we are going to flex the power of the PS5 and then ONLY lists LOADING. It's beyond fucking stupid.

Isn't what that I/O block is for? To make things load faster?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Have they confirmed if this is 60 FPS, RT, or has multiple options ala Forspoken ?

Graphics look great in the new trailer. If you pause it you can see great levels of detail in the environment art and the special effects and motion blue looks fantastic.

Guessing there'll be a 60fps mode given it's an action game and hopefully a 40fps mode too.

FF7 Rebirth should also look and perform well on PS5. With Integrade they greatly improved the graphics, locked it to 60fps and seemingly still had some headroom to push the visuals further. Still no confirmation whether or not Rebirth will use UE4 or UE5. It would have started dev on UE4.

The game will be divided in large chunks of land, so it'll be interesting to see how they will pull off the "no loading" thing

It wont be seamless

I'd guess each large zone/kingdom will be divided by caves, mountain paths, forests etc... similar to God of War but not as constrained as they don't have to cater to PS4.

There are 5-6 kingdoms in the game, I think

Would be weird going from one kingdom to the next by cave or something. Wouldnt really give that sense of scale.

In GOW you go to each real by byfrost. Maybe they will do something similar here by airship?

I'm curious to see what they do with it
