I would like to see you defend Alone in the Dark Inferno.
It has fun physics/dynamic fire puzzles. Combat is really unique and allows for a lot of options. Game can be insanely janky and creates genuine laughs. The focus on trying to create a videogame version of a big-budget TV show also leads to laughter. I know it sounds dumb but the game really tries to emulate a Half-Life 2 style experience and it works surprisingly well in a janky way. I'd post some clips from my twitch/youtube but I don't want to expose my shitty channels in a thread this big.

Also, if things get too frustrating, just go to the menu and skip to the next checkpoint (DVD menu style system).

I can't speak to the 360 version, Inferno got some extra TLC. I'm actually in the middle of doing a platinum run, it's really easy and has been fun but I've been side tracked by VR.

This isn't a good game. Worse, I don't see how it can become good. It's boring, with the opposite of memorable AI, and it feels awful to play on XSX.

Two of those I suppose are actually reasonably fixable, but looking at all of it, I'm not seeing a reason to bother. I hope they learn what they should and just move on.

But can it also not backfire?

As in you promised a great product, sold it a premium $70 price, knowing it was clearly buggy and awful, intentionally kept hidden the Series X and S videos, and didn't let reviewers share their reviews of the game right until launch. And then you didn't even acknowledge the poor result and apologize to your fans?

I can see that also may be a possibility. I think it's between a rock and a hard place situation, but I'd also probably lean towards staying quiet.

Stay quiet until there is a patch, anything else feels like a post that's going to go down badly.

Of course they didn't dig out any details. They are journalists after all.
I just found the quote funny. I'm sorry if you didn't.
? I literally wrote that I found it funny.. I was just curious about whether they had an interesting story of what was going on behind the scene or if it was simply a notion based on the quality of the game. I guess the latter then.

Spent quite a few hours on this via co-op this morning and honestly enjoyed my time with it.

It's unquestionably in very rough technical shape. We experienced numerous disconnects, crashes, bugged scenery, bugged enemies and it controls like arse thanks to deadzones that would put the RE4 Remake to shame.

But it has it's charms. Once we were past the hand holding of the rather dull first few missions, with better guns, more challenging enemies and our abilities unlocked, it really started to click. There's something about it that's actually quite charming in a sleepy US town, atmospheric and vaguely janky State of Decay sort of way. It's hard to quantify really.

"Worst game EVA!!!!!" it certainly is not though.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The service affords them not having to actually delay the game until it was in a much better state. You have goofy bastards repeating like parrots, "well hurr durr it's free on game pass."

If they had to rely on sales, this shit would have been long delayed. It's what a lot of us said would happen, and the handwaving to it to boot.

The service afforded the devs extra time and they didn't do much with it, but let's not chomp at the bits to put the blame just on it, lol.

Jedi Survivor, TLoU PC, Calisto, Dead Spaces PC port and so many other games are launching in this window without being on any service and in states just as bad, if not worse.

Not the service, MS's money and capitalism. Where the money comes from is largely irrelevant. We saw EA release a bad Jedi Survivor and going back T2 release shitty remakes.

Unfortunately games are a business and there is always going to be capitalistic pressure to release games within FY's.

What are the other titles you are basing this train of thought on? You aren't the only one pounding your chest proclaiming you were "right" but I am curious. To me this is more of a bad game since the beginning.
Look at my history. I said that games are going to release as filler. And that we are not seeing many examples yet because they started development as regular releases. This will ramp up. By 2026, if Ms sticks with GP, 90% is going to be filler. Just like Netflix content.

Redfall was thrown under the bus to content bump GP. This will become the norm. Quality will take a backseat. Volume of content and steady content will count. Again like on Netflix.

Those games are not getting "perfect for Game Pass" headlines in the industry now. EA is always going to EA.

The service definitely is treated as an early access we fix later. They even did it with their flagship IP.

And the Jedi game is still far more complete and competent than this pile of trash. Even in its launch state.

What the fuck happened here. What a shame. I would really like to know why, and how a studio with such a good track record and so much talent turned out such a turd.

I’d love some sort of insider to come forward and give us the scoop. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come because I really like Arkane.

Here's a theory from a youtuber (Reforge gaming)...

This was a PS exclusive (although not under contract unlike Deathloop and Ghostwire) - when the acquisition completed, MS cancelled the PS version, and commissioned the Xbox and PC version - so this is just 2 years or so worth of work to put something out.

And that can be tied in to the wording the studio director used when he talked about the PS5 version getting cancelled after the acquisition.

"We got bought by Microsoft and that was a huge sea change. They said, 'No PlayStation 5. Now we're gonna do Game Pass, Xbox and PC.'"

That could be read as there was only a PS5 version at the time of the acquisition.

I don't know what to think of that theory but I can imagine with Sony's money from Deathloop and Ghostwire, Arkane decided to go all in the platform perhaps hoping Sony would fund Redfall too. Bear in mind Sony was also reputedly talking about exclusivity for Starfield. Perhaps in some other reality Bethesda was aligned with PS more so than Xbox/Gamepass.

Those are PC problems. Next-gen has destroyed current PC rigs, let's be honest. Heck, Gollum needs a 4090 DLSS Balanced for 4K RT now 😄

The games you listed ran perfectly fine on consoles. Jedi Survivor is the worst of the bunch, but even that runs relatively fine on PS5. Callisto, Dead Space, and TLOU are perfect on PS5.

The problem with Redfall is that it doesn't run well on the only console it launched on. Even SkillUp brought up this exact point in his video.

Bolded is where I call BS. It may have been a focus for them first with the other ports coming later on their own accord, but Sony would always have a contract if it existed.

If starfield is a mess...I'm officially done. :)

As someone who is a lifelong Xbox fan and even got a message from Microsoft about being one of the first 1,000 people to sign up for Xbox live and never have my subscription laps, ever, I just can't for the life of me figure out what is going on over there.

They have more studios than ever and yet they can't seem to release games in a timely manner. When they do, most of the games they've released are mediocre with some very few exceptions being great and some being terrible.

It just makes no sense.

Phil Spencer admits Microsoft shipped games "too early"

"For any game, but definitely for our games Starfield and Redfall - which are our first big Xbox games with ZeniMax coming into the team - I just wanted to make sure those teams felt they had all the support they could get from Xbox, and to maybe feel some of the benefit of being part of a larger organisation that has other revenue streams and other helpful things going on," Spencer continued.

"In the end, I believe the quality of the games will be better and customers will find the experience to be more interesting, which will hopefully feel like the right decision in hindsight," he added."One of the things I have learned is that you want teams to feel like they own their dates. They deliver better when they feel like they own their own destiny with their games, so you wait for the real signal from the creative and production teams."

Honestly... I used to be believe that it was MAINLY on Phil, but I'm starting to come around to the idea that it's actually Microsoft.

I think Phil genuinely tries to do what is "best" for Xbox gamers, but he's at the mercy of the corporate policies/corporate practices of MS. I honestly don't even know how much "control" Phil actually has as the Head of Xbox. I say this cause If all this was really on Phil he would have been axed a while ago, it's on MS and they know it, it's almost like he's just a figure head. Almost like they're using him to deflect blame away from themselves.

... or i could be totally wrong and it really is all Phil LOL but I now have my doubts.

Yeah potentially - but exclusivity can be purchased quite late in the dev cycle <cough> stellar blade <cough>. Depends when the purchaser decides the title meets the requirements they have for it. Redfall perhaps wasn't there and perhaps never would have been, but Arkane may have been hoping to get it to a level Sony would bite.

I wouldn't race to call BS on that. It could have been a similar situation to Baldur's Gate. Where they expected to eventually release on both platforms, but had complications from one sku, resulting in them prioritizing the other platform.

I'm not going to say that but for the S this game would have been good. But I absolutely suspect that PARITY played a part in this released product.

The Reforge Gaming theory is moronic. In no way would they have to scrap everything and start from the ground up just to release on Xbox. Also if there was a contract for a Sony Redfall, they sure as hell would have talked about it and taken MS for breach of contract. Especially given all the ABK discourse. He's just trying to use Redfall as a Xbox is doomed. He literally used it to talk shit about Hellblade, Indiana Jones, Starfield and literally any other Xbox release. The separate console builds come down the line, not at the beginning.

it doesn't matter. Redfall doesn't look like a game with 5 years of development.
