Twas a solid showing, tons of new IPs revealed, sequels to some amazing games, holy shit Dragons Dogma 2, Marathon revival, Alan Wake II and greatest game of thes show, aka GOTG, no GOTD, no...GOATG! lol METAL GEAR SOLID 3 REMAKE and remaster collection for those who love to cry

This showcase had a little of everything and if someone didn't find something they liked, you are jaded lol I'm not even buying everything shown, not everything is for me, I think gamers have a hard time dealing with that as they seem to have this view like every last thing MUST be FOR THEM. This is a solid, solid showing with games that I feel, folks would literally ask for at the end of these types of things, like "boooo, where is Dragon Dogma 2" or "booo where is MGS3 remakez" or "woooow just Destiny, where is Marathon" or "wooooowz /s just Alan Wake 2, where are the new IP?"

I feels like people like this simply look to complain about what wasn't shown or have some exact game they are looking for or something and then try to judge the whole event based on Xenogears remake not being shown, folks....if it was shown like MGS3 remake, you'd just find another thing to complain about.

Not shocked the full meat of it was for Spiderman 2, they will market other stuff as they get closer and closer to Spiderman 2 release before they start the next huge marketing window.

Death Stranding 2, Concord, The Last Of Us MP etc.
It was missing 1st party gameplay videos. I think if they had included 2 1st party games, it wouldn’t made this an A tier showcase.

65 pages after 24 hrs? Almost double the ToTK OT for a showcase? This place really is PlayStation fans central huh?

People are saying "Welp, you just overhyped the event."

It's a *Showcase*. Not a State of Play.

In all years past, Showcases have been where there has been consistent heavy hitters, both in first and third party devs. It's become even more defined in the last year, where State of Plays were downplayed by Sony themselves in relation to a Showcase event

Here, we had CGI teasers for two games and an extended look at Spider Man. So, to my knowledge, after years Sony showed THREE games out of over TWENTY studios.

And they're GAAS. Like...why? It's obviously VERY much not liked by many people. Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that's *exactly* why Suicide Squad got lambasted so badly.

I don't know what to think. Either they really just are that arrogant being top player or Microsoft busted out a fatter checkbook for more stuff at their show.

One can only hope for Microsoft to bring it, because they both NEED to and SHOULD easily beat this Showcase.
This. Severe lack of 1st party. They should’ve called this a State of Play. Everyone would’ve called this an S tier state of play.

Thought Spider-Man looked great and I'm happy about MGS.

But otherwise I found that to be a massive let down. (And this is coming from someone who thinks Sony E3 2006 isn't actually as bad as people make it out to be).

They will show that footage when that makes sense to do those deep dives. Some of those games being new IP, they likely want them to have their own State Of Plays to fully show folks those titles when they are ready to reveal all that detail.

So I don't think its "missing", I think its right completely not to be there if it isn't fully 100% ready.

It is smarter for Sony to focus on having solid, quality, A tier games, not merely a "showcase" that forces games to all have gameplay when they are not ready. Historically, no one even cares by the time the game comes out, they only really fucking care when that game is completely broken.

CP2077 had a huge showcase too, with a bunch of shit that never even existed in the final game, a game with so many problems, it might have been better to have them working on the game and it release working with all of those features, then merely a showcase to over promise or show content that is under cooked.

I want gameplay shown too, but I want it only if the game can be fully shown and functional and I think it makes sense to save that stuff for State Of Plays to take over the media cycle.

Marvel14 Marvel14 lol, i mean...the showcase is talking about multiple game and multiple genres etc, why would it not have more?

Maybe not, it seems like Showcase fits something like this better, its showing what they have coming soon, deep in the future, hardware coming this fall etc. I think the State Of Plays fit the deep dives and update stuff maybe better. Either way, I like the shotgun approach to marketing.

At any time they can own the media cycle and just randomly announce something.

A Sly Cooper announcement would have gotten me to buy a PS5 tonight.

No...thank you! I've felt quite lonely as a Sly fan in the last years.

Deep in the future? There was barely anything for 2024 in the show!

What have they failed to deliver on?

Every year since PS5 released we have gotten great games.

Did it ever occur to you that outside of the GaaS teasers, Sony didn’t show off a single 2024 SP game? Why? Well maybe because they don’t have to.

If 2024 ends up having zero bangers, then we can start blaming Jimbo and Hermen.

You want to blame anyone for a shitty Sony showcase? Blame Microsoft for not being a big enough competitive threat for Sony to feel like they have to reveal their hand early.

This is just the new Sony MO, sadly. Only show gameplay months before release.
You and I have been going back and forth on this since 2020. I told you they wouldnt have a holiday game in 2021, you disagreed and were wrong.

I told you they wont have a next gen only game in 2022. You said no way in hell they would allow that, and well we went a whole year without a next gen game from them. they did pretend tlou was next gen only but even you knew that was bs.

this year, everyone said spiderman would not be the only game they would release because they have so much they havent shown yet. once again, i was proven right.

They didnt show anything from their single player studios because they have nothing. they are all in development hell just like MS studios. even worse, they just got done shipping last gen games in 2022 so they are due for their next game in 2028. this conference proves that. I will see you in 2028. time has proven me right so far every single year.

Phantom Blade stole the show. Looked incredible. Dragons Dogma 2 of course is day 1. So excited and the gameplay looked awesome. Plucky Squire looks cool and very original. Granblue Fantasy looked downgraded from earlier trailers so that was a disappointment. Spiderman 2 had some amazing set pieces and I will probably get it at release. But Sony still doing nothing with Bloodborne makes this show a 1/10.

This is the reason E3 is dead. MS can't make a exclusive game. Sony has one good exclusive every couple years. And we might get one good 3rd party exclusive game a year. Its really pathetic.

It's become more and more obvious that Sony were extremely lucky they had ps4 games that they could port up to ps5 and bolster their line up for ps5...

They literally have nothing ready for next gen..spider man 2 looks like it could be on ps4.

This was a genuinely terrible show

Horizon was always the hope, but 2021 wasn't a bust - they had Returnal and Ratchet which were both great games.

2022 they had GT7, Horizon, TLOU1 Remake, and God of War. It was a pretty outsanding year for them. I don't care about the "next gen only" crap you are obsessed with. All I care about is whether the game is good or not. I'm enjoying myself playing Zelda on worse than PS3 level hardware for crying out loud :lol

In 2023, they have Final Fantasy 16 (I don't care that it's Square, it's an exclusive game they went out and got). They also had Forespoken but we all know that turned out to be a dud (oh well, it sometimes happens), and they also have Spider-Man 2. Perhaps not as strong as 2022, but it's a good year.

If you want to believe they will have nothing, go right ahead. I have just seen no evidence to suggest they won't have a good 2024. We could get Death Stranding 2 and Factions. Probably some other stuff as well that hasn't been revealed. Could be a light year, either way they haven't gone nearly 2 years or more without a significant release like their competitors have.

ya. game budgets have grown to such a degree we can't expect much more without something changing

All this shit did was reinforce my growing doubts about the leadership at PlayStation. Gaas and PSVR2 are not what made PlayStation the industry leader, Jim Ryan, you fucking idiot.

Sorry....I'm just pissed.

I still think they are holding onto bigger 1P reveals for other events like SGF and Tokyo Game Show, as well as the TGAs, but this showcase did leave a lot to be desired.

And Project-Q looks like it's DOA. If you really think about it, the only exclusives they showed that were new reveals, AAA and not live-service/GaaS are Phantom Blade 0 and Spiderman 2. A whole two games.

I'm hoping the Xbox Showcase and SGF bring more to the playing field. I was pretty surprised at the lack some bigger 3P AAA reveals. Zero Bandai-Namco or Sega-Atlus at the showcase for example. No WB, either, no Take-Two, no Ubisoft. No Stellar Blade, no update on Silent Hill 2, etc.

Okay I think that's a bit too reductive. Is it the visual jump it probably should've been? No. But it's still a really good-looking game.

Although I hope there is more game mechanic variety than what the footage today showed. Although I have to say, going back to the visuals for a second, if the (most likely BS) rumor Hellblade II releasing this year is true, that might take it in terms of visual showcase for the year.

I get what you are saying, but it really doesn't make me feel any better about Sony leadership. If they are holding back for other shows then that is really a stupid thing for Sony to do. You've got a captive audience here wanting to see what PlayStation has for them, but no......let's put the big shit in other shows that shares the stage with many other products and platforms. Put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig, I'm afraid.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
They showed half a dozen GAAS games and neglected to show the one people would actually have been interested in.

Factions.

Just how far along is it? TLoU2 came out a while ago, Factions 2 was supposed to launch with/around it right ?

Probably pretty far out. Late 2024 at best

ND aint what they used to be imho. Spent two years on a remake, Druckman was off doing the show, and Jason Schreier scared them into Quiet Quitting because Crunch is Bad

Dragons dogma was one of my favorites of the show and I never played the first one. After a bit I wanted them to stop showing the awesome looking villians and enemies cause I want to be surprised.

Blown away at the lack of 1st party shit they showed. I was really excited about psvr2 when it released and it seems like Sony doesn't give a fuck about it. Why haven't they just had a 2nd party deal with Capcom and made an original VR game yet? Beat sabers cool but it's another port. And another random 1st person shooter. Cool. Cool. Cool.

I knew the show was gonna be shit when they opened with THREE straight GAAS games. Utterly deflating. Can’t believe I was excited for this.

Because Sony doesn’t need to show any 2024 games without significant competition.

When you only show games you know about already, it’s going to be a crappy show
Nintendo has no real competition, and they keep showing off amazing games with their directs. Blaming Xbox for this is nonsense. They just said they want total mindshare, this should have been an amazing debut of Sony exclusives.

PlayStation is the only one to blame, it should have been a state of play.

It's official: Jim Ryan doesn't have a clue about what gamers are looking about. Not. a. single. clue.

Put back Yoshida.
I quote myself.

As a general third party showcase, I would give it a C (not a B because of the unacceptable amount of "Not actual gameplay"). Several impressive titles.

As a Playstation Showcase, a big E. If someone told me it was like this, I genuinely wouldn't believe it.

Last 2 Nintendo directs have sucked, the most interesting thing was the Pikmin 4 trailer and that game was announced on the Wii u and has gotten a game in its franchise every generation its existed.

Oh Lord Jimmy, you've failed us! I'm always going to keep it real, I was expecting *a lot* more. No big 1st party bombs after almost 2 years without a showcase? For shame PlayStation, for shame.

The truth boils down to this: PlayStation releases GOTY contenders every single year, fans of PlayStation can't really complain about much. PS5 is a sales beast on track to outpace the PS4. We have to accept that what this means is Sony is content to piece meal out the goods, we'll get the great games as we've always have but the days of all-out megaton dropping showcases are over, sad but true, it is what it is.

My highlights from the show:

MGS3 or ∆ - seems they changed the title to reflect it's chronologically the first in the series, optimistic this means we'll be getting remakes of all 3 games over time. Original trilogy collection was a pleasant surprise.

Spider-Man 2 - switching between venom Peter and Miles looks dope as fuck. Production values through the roof though it's clear the game needs more polish, probably why they refrained from including a release date.

Dragon's Dogma 2 - wasn't expecting this, fantastic showing, loved the first game.

Helldivers 2 - same as above, loved the first game and looking forward to this one.

Phantom Blade - slick combat and a cool, dark vibe BUT it also reeks of Chinese jank, let's see how it develops and whether it will actually release.

I couldn't care less about Bungie, Splatoon clones, VR or most of the other fluff. A handful of the smaller, artistic indie titles looked great but that's not what I wanted from this showcase. I guess the good news is that we STILL haven't seen anything from the rest of the PlayStation studios family, I know there's lots of good stuff cooking, just don't expect multiple projects to be revealed en masse, no more E3 of dreams.

EDIT: forgot to mention Alan Wake 2 looks great 👌
