Starfield preload is some week in the future (August -1st)

Didn’t ID software help them for the gunplay? Should be damn good. Looked good in the preview.
Looks a bit like Bungie's gunplay, and if so that's a good thing. Say whatever else you want about Bungie and their crap, but they have some of the best gunplay in the biz.

That doesn't make sense.

314mb?

Sounds like all you downloaded was the download permissions/instruction to get the game at a later date. That, or a dashboard config.

Are these installer things (small in size, like ~300 MB), before the full game becomes available to preload, common on Xbox?

Here's the entirety of what you actually preload right now on PC:

Good news, if true. But:
  1. Does anyone know if this guy is reliable?
  2. I think this is a little too early for review copies to be sent to reviewers. Maybe for early impressions and hands-on previews? But it's a little too late for that. Was there ever any update on people getting their hands on the game?
The timing makes me doubt the validity of this guy's claim -- unless somebody here tells me that this guy is super reliable with his news/leaks.

Starfield being great or less than doesn't really apply here.

Dreamcast guy is an algorithm fiend. He'll promote a good/bad narrative about his sweet old grandmother if he thinks there's youtube adsense to be made of the video. I remember him trashing TLOU2. I'm talking some of the worst narratives and when the algo changed, TLOU2 was the best game ever created, ever. Like in the history of mankind type ever.

I hope starfield is a great game. But Dreamcast as an individual, I would never put faith in his opinions. He's one of the few channels I've asked youtube to never recommend

I do notice how everything is all so secret and quiet, I guess? We had Paris a week ago or so saying the same thing as DCguy is saying here, so folks ARE playing it. And I'd assume it's not only playtesters anymore, has to be review copies by now? The game is like three weeks away from it's official release date.

But overall very little rumblings from other sources. I guess they don't want to break that NDA, assuming there is one. But I remember a similar situation for Doom. Fallout 4 I'm not sure of. I don't recall much "leaks" in terms of impressions the last weeks before release.

There are people playing the finished game right now. Stop with the delay fantasies.

It seems folks really want the Gone Gold announcement, but it's true, we've heard from some sources that the game is being played and that can't be only the playtesters. These have to be for the reviews now. People forget how things went for Doom. Iirc this is similar.

I'm getting hyped!

Not long now, holy poop!

People are definitely playing the game, might not be all reviewers but there is deffo a select few people playing through it.

Too early?? In just over two weeks we’ll play it.
Unless critics aren’t already playing it for review it’ll be another pending score scenario like with Baldur’s Gate 3 which was more like previews.
It’s a huge game and critics needs to have gone through the story and tried a couple different roleplaying scenarios and explored lots of planets and done the late game base building and space ship building and write a review to post before the game’s release. And some are still not ready with the BG3 reviews yet…

Wondering why Bethesda is silent on the status isn't a "delay fantasy".

But isn't this mostly their MO? Fallout 4 was a while ago, I kinda forgot about that. But it was quite silent around Doom too, and many thought it would bomb and then the reviews came......

I do recall that Fallout 4 was announced Gold three weeks or so before release. Maybe they are waiting to announce it during Gamescom perhaps?

That all could very well be true but doesn't mean everyone wondering about the status of the game is engaging in a "delay fantasy". Hopefully we will get an announcement before Gamescom.

How do we know this?

Edit: Disregard. I see the tweet above.

That's true.

I imagine that whenever this interactive event is that they will say the game is complete. Really, it has to be the quiet before the storm bow.

As for people playing it. Well, we had Kinda Funny's Paris say he heard from a person playing it that it was pretty good, he was mysterious about it, but he clearly implied someone he knows has been playing it.

And then there's DCguy.

Reviewers are going to need at least two weeks with this game I think. Surely, we should see some updates this week that review copies are rolling out?

Or maybe the reviewers have been playing it for a while now, because two weeks or less to review a game of this size.....is far from ideal. It just seems they aren't allowed to speak a word on it, not even saying they got copies.

Next week is GC, I imagine we'll get some updates on all kinds of things Starfield then. All in all, it's just Bethesda being Bethesda, par for the course. Except maybe how late the gold announcement is this time, compared to Fallout 4.

New here? 😆

Look boys, we're all very eager to play Starfield, but I wouldn't put any trust on a Bethesda Game going Gold. Gold means different things for different developers, and in the case of a Bethesda Game, it means the number of game breaking bugs is less than 200, and the number of pesky non-game breaking bugs is less than 2000.

Everybody knows a Bethesda Softworks game goes gold FOR REAL between the 1.5 and the 2 years mark after release. 🥹

I eagerly await the patch notes for something like 'When the starship lands on a location next to a building the thrust flame no longer no-clips through walls and kills the Main Quest NPCs making the game unfinishable' or 'Systems no longer fails to spawn' 🥲

Bring that tasty Preload into my Series X. In from Second One for the clusterfuck. 😄🍿

No really, it's 'the most ambitious Bethesda Game EVER'. So I guess the scope of bugs must be equally ambitious. 🫠

We making bets about the size of the Day One Patch? I say 56GB.

I'm very hyped, but also fully prepared and eager to see them do the Homer Roll down the ravine for the lulz 😆

One thing I'm expecting(dreaming?) is that gunplay is much more rewarding than, say, Fallout 4, for example. I don't know how the current fermentation of the Creation Engine can handle gunplay now, but sci-fi and immersive sims have always been my lifeblood, and I need that itch scratched now that almost every shooter and his grandma goes to the GaaS thrashcan. I mean, a Bethesda role-playing game with tight gunplay in first person?

Inject it into my veins RIGHT NOW. 🙏🏻🤨💉🩸

Would be a pity having all those folks in 343i with nothing to do and all those folks in iD who could lend a hand, and not tap into them. Of course, iD commands and 343i does as they're told, I don't want 343i taking the lead and fuggling things up. 🥲

I just read that Todd Howard literally clarified the assumption that iD was helping them with the gunplay, when they really were helping with the graphics. ☹️

We're FUCKED. 🥲

I can't wait, one of my most anticipated games ever, I could see myself playing this for years
Same here!

New IP
New universe
AAA Bethesda RPG
Single player
New version of their engine
🔥

I’m trying to remember the last time I was this excited about a game release but it’s not easy to find something on the same level.

And the launch is just the start, the modding community is hopefully going to go bananas with this game.

MS should’ve had a midgen console pushing it up to 60fps for maximum hype.

Ah, I just realized I paid for the Gamepass upgrade thing, and I'm out of the country for work August 30 to September 5 :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Oh well, I got it for the DLC really, not the early access, that was just a bonus.
