Anyone ever play Freelancer?

That was the first spacegame I played as a kid, and absolutely loved it.

I know this won't be the exact type of game but there was still very much a story in Freelancer so I hope it can recreate some of that feeling

Serious question:

When was the last time you were as excited about a new game coming out?

This excited? Probably Cyberpunk 2077. RE4 Remake was another big one.

I really enjoyed both on PC, no real big issues with Cyberpunk except that I hoped it could have been more. More stuff to do, shit to buy, appartments.

I'm pretty sure this will be a much better rpg at least, but I think thats a given.

Cyberpunk was probably the last game I was really excited about. FH5 I was pretty stoked about, too. I was going to jump into BG3, but I feel like Starfield is perfect game for me over the next couple months. I’ve been really into space shit after rewatching Interstellar and subbing to a bunch of YouTube channels like SEA and Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell.

I don’t know, the past 5-6yrs has been really good gaming times for me. I just play what I want and if it’s fun I keep play until I’m not having fun. There’s no worries about dropping a game or getting my monies worth. I don’t try to hyper-analyze or compare games to my preconceived ideas. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ride, or jump off. No playing out of obligation or hate playing(tons of people were doing this with FFXVI. Hating it, yet dropping dozens of hours into it. Sperg behavior). /rant

P.S.- Just about 49hrs left🚀

no but I played a lot of Wing Commander 2 which was one of the first CD-ROM games I had that feature actual voice acting. IIRC, it required a 2X CD-ROM reader.

I have to say - the Starfield defence force is something else. You can’t say a single negative thing or state you aren’t interested in the game without someone jumping down your throat. I’ve been around a long time and the fanboyism around this one is toxic. It’s such a shame.
It's probably just a reaction to the hordes of PS trolls who are shitting on the game any way they can to try make makes themselves feel better than it's an Xbox exclusive.
Some of the shit that has been thrown around is legit retarded.
We all know that if this was a multiplat games, the tone would be very different.

Nah I think most of it is pre-defense nonsense. The PS fanboy stuff exists and is toxic, but Starfield has to be brilliant for some of these tools existence to be justified. It’s not perfect and criticism is valid. The same with any game.

The Xbox fanboys truly have pinned their love and desire for the console on this game and anything at all that isn’t 100% glowing praise is taken as an ad hominem attack.

Nah. Bethesda is one of the greatest RPG developers the world has ever seen. This is their first new IP in over 20 years. It's set in space which is a genre alot of people love. Alot of people have been waiting a long time for this game.
The game hasn't been released yet, and certainly non of the trolls have played any part of it yet. As such, they are left with picking fault with the loading screen, not being able to land on, and walk on gas giant planets, a game engine that uses tiles (they all do, and if you saw a zoomed out view of how they all load you would know that).you can't walk forever on an empty planet, and the rest of the BS.

On the boundaries issue, I think I read somewhere that there are 3-5 main landing spots on any given planet that has the big POI's/main story beats.

My question is, can I actually land absolutely anywhere (Terrain permitting) on a planet outside of those 3-5 landing spots?

Not that it's a deal breaker, but that's kind of up there with not having the ability to fly seamlessly through the atmosphere to the planets surface, which I assume the reason why is due to the large open world corridors/sections that have to be loaded in?

It's not just a reaction to PS fanboys, the same exact thing happened with Cyberpunk and it was multiplat, I remember the same kind of attitude on CP2077's subreddit weeks before the game came out, people saying it would be game of the decade, CDPR could do no wrong and anyone who dared temper some expectations was immediately labeled a troll, we all know how that went...
Just a couple days ago I saw a dude commenting on Starfield's subreddit, telling people that it's okay to be excited but to not overhype themselves or others and just wait for reviews and gameplay footage, lest we have another Cyberpunk situation on our hands, alas, minutes later he was downvoted to oblivion... I decided to unsub after that, I'll go back in a few months after people calm down a bit.

Starfield is probably my most anticipated game of the last couple years but man, all this insane overhype kinda grinds my gears ngl.

Fingers crossed for this one. I hate so many AAA games these days.

Let’s just hope for something genuinely great, with no cynicism. And not a movie game, god.

I hope I can stand the 30fps because I generally avoid any 30fps title because of weird eye problems (poss neurological).

I was ok with UC4 (on a PS4 Pro) but that seems like a very smooth 30. I hope this is tolerable.

Every other 30fps “visuals” option in games I’ve tried in recent times I couldn’t stand.
Good quality motion blur is probably why UC4 felt good at 30 to you.

Ima keep it a buck. I finished my interview today. Seems I got the gig. Offer letter next week.

Current job I haven’t used any sick days. Thinking Friday is time to use one. May as well, right ?
I just got laid off, but managed to find a new job almost immediately, so now I just have a week off that happens to line up with Starfield's launch and I couldn't have planned it better. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

So you would agree that the hype is indeed, massive, and growing?

No doubt.

Tbh it’s sad to see veteran Bethesda’s first new IP and new universe and biggest game in 25 years used this way.
This release should be an exciting event for everyone.

But it’s console war fuel and parts of the hobby will try to find faults and criticize the game instead of playing it no matter how good it is.

It makes me wish it wasn’t exclusive…
…but it also makes me understand why MS made it an exclusive.

If there is one game that could punch through the walls and wake people up on a global scale so they realize that Xbox actually exist - it’ll be this game.

”What’s an Xbox?” might not be said again.

From that point of view it might actually be worth the 10 million less games sold that MS expected. People inside their bubbles might peek outside their walls to see what the noise is all about.

I'm not that worried about the bugs. I've completed Bethesda RPGs from begining to end at launch without many issues and just a ittle jank here and there, but my overall experience was great. The whole Bugthesda thing is being over-hyped and over-played, mainly by a bunch of Playstation fanboys and click-bait opportunists. Plus, Todd Howard said the game was ready for launch last year and they've used the extra time to polish the game.
Completely ridiculous opinion
I recently started a new save on Skyrim : Anniversary edition on xbox series s, and 15 hours into the game encountered a game breaking bug that made the game unplayable, this is a Bethesda game that has been patched for over 12 years, and still has things like this happen in it

To be honest, gas giants have some sort of solid-ish core that technically you could walk on. It is just extremely challenging due to the immense pressure, heat, and turbulent conditions(Wind on Jupiter reaches around 650km/h).
But the dude from tweet most likely didn't know that and is either trolling on just uneducated and implementing that in the game would be overkill. Unless the whole game is about reaching core of gas giant.

Tell that to millions of PS3 owners who played ridiculously bad performing versions of their games with frequent freezes and slowdowns due to memory leaks.

Not at all. Millions of people around the world have finished Bethesda RPGs. Has a Bethesda RPG ever crashed on me? Of course. Does goofy stuff happen every now and then, yes. But the overall experience is still great. I completed Morrowind back in the day without any patches/updates.
