This, this is how it should be. And sad that this needs to be announced.
That is not considered a requirement to play and finish the game.Did anyone read this announcement? It does not match thread title.
"But for the best experience, we highly encourage physical/disc based players to download patch blah blah blah"
How is this different to any game that has been released in last 10 years?
Playable from start to finish on disc but not the way they intended it to be played...
I bought the digital deluxe version so doesn't impact me, but once again it seems like physical folks will have less than the full experience in the version on disc. I guess with how complex games are even the best studios struggle sometimes.
I don't even understand why this a big deal. The internet is as necessary as electricity now days.
Dunno if it’s so cheap if Nintendo themselves avoid 32gb and 64gb cartridges like the plague. With how cheap flash memory is these days, I'm amazed that Nintendo is the only one that resurrected the cartridge.
It's just makes so much more sense than a disc. Flash drives can hold insane amounts of data and are incredibly small.
The fact that it hasn't become the new standard for physical media is depressing.
Hey thanks for that site.people, remember.
This site is fucking awesome.
All the song and dance "oh but games are cd keys now bluh where is my mom" is bs.
70% fully playable form disc on ps5. 80 on switch
Do you even know what significant polish means in this case? Because there's not really any context there. The director of community and marketing at Insomniac literally says that you need to patch the version on the disc to play the game the way Insomniac intended in response to the tweet, which is saying to me that the experience you get on the disc isn't exactly what they wanted to ship.Significant polish does not equal not the full experience.
Yall are trying waaaay too hard.
People should learn to read between the lines.
The fact they are putting this info out means there are some problems with the game on the disc, they could be minor performancee and glitches or could be worse. They are emphasising you need the patch for the best experience. Sure, you may be able to finish the game from start to finish but some of the issues may be embarassing to the dev which is why they trying to get ahead of bad press this with the patch announcment. They are not saying this to promote you can play the game from start to finish without a patch which some clearly seem to think.

This means that In context of his tweets, this message from Insomniac can be seen as them trying to get ahead of any criticism regarding the day 1 patch more than it is affirmation that the game is perfect as-is on disc and doesn't need updates that people are taking it as. They should have told the marketing guy to STFU and stay off of Twitter because he's ruining the vibe.

And we have nobody to blame but ourselves. It's sad that we've got to a place where a developer needs to even state this is the case with their game.
This is how it should always be.
No?So just like Hogwarts Legacy?
Don't see how there's anything misleading with my OP -- The day one version of SM2 is complete on the disc, and Insomniac even made additional improvements since the game went gold (e.g the build that's printed on the disc), and you can get those if your Internet connection allows. If not, you've still got the full, finished game on the disc that plays just fine from start to finish. That said, there will always be optional day 1 patches for such big releases since devs continue working on games post launch, like it was the case with FFXVI which was complete on disc too.
And yes, there have been 2 big releases this year with Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor that require mandatory download to play past the intro/tutorial area.
Its 2023, not 1993. Games get bigger, QoL improvements, etc, spying on you, all requires internet.Yeah they accomplished what devs accomplished back before the xbox one and Ps4.
Yes? Spiderman requires a day one patch. After that its offline. Just like Hogwarts. It doesnt require an internet connection TO PLAY.
Dude re-read my reply smh. It's all on disc and can be played from start to finish without any mandatory update/download. You can't do that with Hogwarts Legacy or Jedi Survivor.Yes? Spiderman requires a day one patch. After that its offline. Just like Hogwarts. It doesnt require an internet connection TO PLAY.
It just requires it to download what didnt fit on the disc. That's pretty comparable.

When people started made excuses for itThat's pretty cool, I remember when that used to be the standard. Not sure why this stopped being a thing.

Welcome to the new age
This generation is so lame that we now have Insomniac saying they put the full game on the disc as if that wasn't already expected (if not always fulfilled in this day and age).

Yeah, they should listen to a neck-needing nobody on GAF. Stupid Insomniac! That's all well and good but they forgot to add necks that work to the NPC's.
are you 12?Yeah, they should listen to a neck-needing nobody on GAF. Stupid Insomniac!
Says the guy who complains, across multiple threads, about npc necks. Sounds like you need a hobby.are you 12?
a simple yes would've sufficed.Says the guy who complains, across multiple threads, about npc necks. Sounds like you need a hobby.
Do you have anything relevant to add to this thread or are you going to continue to show just how much this game bothers you because you cannot play it, apparently?a simple yes would've sufficed.
Thankfully Horizon had a GOTY with DLC later so hopefully the same happens with West.PlayStation first-party releases are usually complete on disc. I think the last time that wasn't the case was with HFW on PS4 or Days Gone all the way back in 2019.
i mean you are the one talking about it over and over, theres a ps5 upstairs if i want to play itDo you have anything relevant to add to this thread or are you going to continue to show just how much this game bothers you because you cannot play it, apparently?
Buddy — you brought up the neck thing in multiple threads. What did we miss?i mean you are the one talking about it over and over, theres a ps5 upstairs if i want to play it
It just happened last week:Thankfully Horizon had a GOTY with DLC later so hopefully the same happens with West.
I mean yes, both games are technically playable, but it's not comparable at all or at best it's a flawed comparison since one it's playable from start to finish while the other only in the tutorial area. Why even make it in the first place? Seems very weird and I want to think my OP was pretty clear on what you get by buying the disc version of Spider-Man 2.I think MonkeyClaw36 meant the tutorial counts as being able to play the game.
It was that or he could crap up folks celebration of a quality release thread.Popping them on my Christmas wishlist. Cheers for the heads up!
I'll let you get back to hunting, gathering and painting your sister on the cave wall
Does that GT Sport version rerelease have some single player to it and a split screen? Does it work offline to let you save the game? Most physical GOTY edition i buy come with all DLC or expansions on the disk. Whats the point of launching a physical GOTY edition, if the content on disk is the same as the normal and cheaper normal editon?
Polyphony did a re-release of GT Sport after some updates and they included 1 extra blu-ray to include all the extra content that was added to the game.
Yes GT Sport has a very long single player campaign. (100h+)Does that GT Sport version rerelease have some single player to it and a split screen? Does it work offline to let you save the game?
If so I may have to source it. Would be nice to have an old school single player offline saving GT game again.
