Again, I wish it was easy to explain things for people and for them to just get it. This is mainly for the PC port, Sony just prioritizes making sure that PS5 gets love before PC. Does it make sense to port a 2020 game to PC or to enhance it more and port it to PC? By the time this comes out on PC the original PS4 version will be more than 4 years old and depending on the timing, it could be as old as 5 years old. And then you'll have people on PC complaining about a full priced game that is 4-5 years old.

Think about it this way. When the PS5 Pro comes out, Sony can always go back to add things like RTX to games like this. Capcom added raytracing to RE2.

That's an easy enough win and again because they've remastered the game, they now have the option of doing this and creating more quality content for PS5 Pro when it launches.
get a lamp then Ababwa.

anyway... I can't wait for it. woot woot

Man people in this Thread complaining about a $10 upgrade make me want to purchase the WLF version just out of spite, and God only knows how much I hated this fucking game..
All the more ridiculous considering the game received a free 60fps upgrade already.

New mode sounds great, it's going to be super fun with this game's combat and it could and imo totally should replace that resource/talent pit of Factions 2.

Lost Levels also sound interesting, was hoping for them to be integrated into the game but it's actually no big deal as my Grounded run already lasted 100 hours in the original.
Not even sure I want to replay the actual game but I'll try the new content no doubt.

I feel like an old cynic, but is there really enough here to warrant a full remaster?

It's not even that old, and looks great on PS4 and ps5 anyway, so how much can they really improve the visuals?
This game only really needed LOD improvements to fix the 60fps Patch issues, and they apparently did that along with other minor things here and there:

A complete "Remaster" with new assets/lighting/textures would only destroy the meticulously crafted visuals/aesthetic. Game already looks like this ffs:

Loved to see a mention of improved shadows for instance, those PCSS in the Part I Remake were the most welcome improvement over Part II.

So are you complaining about the price or the fact that you didn't enjoy the game?

If it's the price I'll send you $10 so you can stop crying.

Paying others to play The Last of Us 2 ...

Your money will get wasted, their mind will get fucked up.

Man... You need to to rethink your priorities.

I love that they do this. The upgrade price is really fair too. For those complaining, just play the regular version which already got the free 60 fps PS5 upgrade and looks amazing already.

Did they upgrade the graphics to pre downgrade trailer levels or did they go the lazy resolution increase road? There should honestly be no excuses for this not to reach those trailer graphics on the ps5, even just a simple gi bounce upgrade would be transformative for the game considering the gi inconsistency is its only real weakness.

Yeah, but you know how things work with "exclusive" games. Frustrated people around all the time is par for the course.

Screenshots aren't copyrighted by the way, feel free to share them whenever you want.

Of course, they are not standalone games either. But the image act as if Rockstar has only been working on RDR2 since 2013 and has done nothing else. But that is factually wrong. In the end, the work on the DLCs for GTA Online has also tied up the same resources that a standalone expansion etc. would have.
I dunno why you got that impression. Its clearly a timeline of individual game releases, not an indicator of whether or not they were occupied with work in between those years up to now. So, no. The point still stands. I can rephrase it and state they have factually not been releasing new ideas in the form of new video game releases as consistently as they used to if that pleases you.

This is actually not a Rockstar-specific phenomenon. Rather, it is a symbol of the state of the modern gaming industry in general. Incidentally, the film industry is in a similar situation. The cost of producing games and films has risen massively in recent years. If a product flops, this can now have massive consequences for companies. Companies are now faced with a decision:

1. Do we take a risk and develop something completely new?
2. Do we rely on existing, successful IPs and expand them?

Most companies opt for the second point. That is why there is a new COD every year, >13 parts of Assassin's Creed and so on and so forth. There is no doubt that this is not a free ticket to success. But the risk is simply lower, as there is already a fanbase that buys the garbage anyway, so that in the worst-case scenario you might get away with a +/- 0 profit/loss.

As mentioned earlier, in the film industry, it is the same problem 1:1. Disney took a risk back then with Pirates of the Caribbean when they made a movie about a theme park attraction. Nowadays, that is no longer conceivable. No company would take the risk. That is why Marvel, Star Wars etc. are milked to the max.

It all gets even more exciting when we look at how the film industry now earns (or, more precisely, does not earn) its money. Every studio now thinks it has to launch its own streaming service. It is just stupid that at some point people do not want to subscribe to 1000 providers who have to raise their prices every time, only to still not make a profit. The number of people going to the movies is also steadily decreasing, the sale of physical media has been constantly sabotaged by the studios for years anyway and here we are. This is all a huge bubble that will probably last for a long time. The video game industry is threatened with the same fate sooner or later. In my opinion, there is no getting around another video game crash.

But so much for that topic. I think that Rockstar is really making the best of the situation here. At least they have not fallen as low as other studios/publishers that are rigorously draining their IPs. While they also rely on “old” IPs. At least they take the time to create a really good product. And if the success of GTA Online helps them to be able to finance the development of the other projects accordingly, that's something positive from my point of view.
That's fair and this criticism was strictly aimed at Rockstar. Dforce alleged noone, apparently, had any issues with the current state of Rockstar's creativity and I decided to refute him on that case. However, it should ring some alarm bells more than anything that its such a widespread problem across the industry instead of people passively sitting by and accepting it as the new status quo. I'm generally against this slump in risk and creativity all around.

If anything, the major profits should exactly prove to you that they aren't going into funding new and risky game ideas like they used. They could very likely afford to take make fresh new ideas, but they don't. Next game they got on their cards is likely GTAVI which I wouldn't deem a risky fresh idea at all. It'll still likely have some technological feats like shrinking horse testicles, I'm sure. You might think this is good for Rockstar, but I believe I speak for a subset of gamers, as fans of their prior works and history, when I say we're not thrilled about their situation.

Hey, at least you get to revel in the fact they're raking massive amounts of profit that I assume in no way reach you (I hope). That's a win-win for you, I guess. Anyway, yeah, we've digressed a bit here.

All these for 10$ upgrade is quite nice and generous actually. I was worried this 'remastered' version would be getting Part I treatment (aka charge for 70$ over small things).
Here's hoping for PC soon.

You fail to remember that tlou1 remaster released 1 year after it released on ps3.
1 YEAR and nobody complained and we still got uncharted 4 2 years later
The situation is a lot different now because of the backwards compatibility. I think one reason why there was less complaints was because many got to play it for the first time. Many Xbox 360 owners bought a PS4 as their next console.

But you think he would rather do the remake than a new game. That's the issue they don't need Druckman to do a TLOU2 remake.

The fear is still strong in you.

Isn't he the one who killed only likeable character in entire franchise.

And made all females not only ugly but dumb as well.

And now conveniently shifting blame on Sweet Baby Inc.

Yeah man, real scared what he does next.

I dunno why you got that impression.
This is due to the fact that the majority of games came out in the picture when terms like DLC or online mode were still a foreign concept :D Back then, you just released games for consoles and that was that. There was not much in the way of updates etc. That did not start until the XBox 360/PS3 era and then developed further and further. And back then, the whole philosophy of developers changed. Suddenly you could support games in the long term and so on and so forth. It is actually well known, I think. Rockstar is doing nothing different with GTA Online. Therefore, this should definitely be taken into account.

They could very likely afford to take make fresh new ideas, but they don't.

Of course they could. But if you spend the time and resources that you put into a new IP in RDR2 and now GTA VI, for example, and it then flops, then might as well file for bankruptcy. That is what I meant in my other post. It is simply no longer worth taking the risk for such large companies. Of course, Rockstar could also produce very small and inexpensive games. But I can only imagine the backlash. Games that set new milestones are expected from R*. For years now, fresh, new ideas have only come from the indie scene. At the moment I don't see that this will change in the near future.

massive amounts of profit that I assume in no way reach you (I hope).

Haha, I wish I was on a private island in the Caribbean right now. Instead, I'm sitting in my basement waiting for the GTA VI trailer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sold my PS4 version in anticipation of this

I’m surprised there’s no mention of Haptic Feedback and Trigger Effects? I guess that’s expected??

I’ll be one of those who’ll buy this - just for the haptics and trigger effects alone if they’re implemented

PS4 was not backwards compatible with PS3. And even then it was a typical lazy ND effort. Look at the difference between GTA V on PS3 vs. PS4.

Quote from Sony's Blog in the first post:

Part II Remastered also incorporates DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback and adaptive triggers integration to better immerse you in every moment of combat and exploration.

The people complaining about this, especially about the $10 upgrade price are crazy. You get a PS5 remaster (I'm guessing with haptics and graphical improvements), new rougelike survival mode, and new costumes yet there are other games charging $10 for an emote. You guys need to get a grip really, they're not asking for much.

In order to get the native PS5 version, we have to buy this PS5 version in January, right?

We can’t just use our PS4 version, pay $10, and get this PS5 version right?

This flyer seems to imply the upgrade path is digital only. Or am i reading this wrong?
$10 would be a small price to pay if i can upgrade my disc. I never got round to playing this so this would be a great release for me.

Yo6QBUS.jpg

The update should be free, because we support the game on its launch day or the purchase of its first days and first version.

Hopefully this is the plan for most of previously released ps4 games, like Lost Legacy, Death Stranding and Uncharted Lost Legacy; 10.00$ upgrade for improved visuals and dualsense support. If they wanted to add raytracing, Im sure it would be a bigger job than just adding content to the base game and would cost more.

Now we just need that 10.00$ Bloodborne ps5 upgrade, but its such a big game that remains on one platform, I could see that game getting a full remake since adding 60fps is a mess.

You can just pay $10 and you'll have the PS5 version as far as I can tell

Well that is not completely unreasonable.
You and me paid 60$ or the game. Upgrade will be 10$ for us.
But those who got it for 10$ (it was on sale plenty of times) also will have 10$ upgrade path.

But this way of thinking is so full of holes, I dont even know where to start... but yet I feel you

I don't get why people are upset about the price. Seems like a decent upgrade with a fun looking new mode.

If you don't think it's worth it just don't upgrade. The normal version is still great and playable at 60fps on Ps5. Hell Sony could have chosen to be scummy and not release a 60fps patch for Ps5 in order to lock the higher frame rate behind this upgrade.

That said I do miss the times when ND did more than release the same games again and again.

Seems like basically the same upgrade path as Death Stranding to Director's cut. Pay $10 and use your original disc as an activation key for PS5 digital.
Which is fine by me.

They released a AAA game in 2020, and games take years to make. Not to mention COVID repeated disruptions and work on Frontiers.

we’ll probably hear more from them in 2024, but it’s perfectly reasonable if it takes them until 2025 for their next title.

It took Guerrilla and Sony Santa Monica 4.5 years to make sequels to Horizon and GOW. It’s not so far fetched to expect the same for a whole new AAA IP.
I know and I agree, mine is not a criticism of their speed of development or anything else, I am annoyed by this silence (which in reality applies to almost all PS studios) on future projects. uncharted 4 was announced in 2013 shortly after the release of tlou, here we are 3 years after part 2 and almost halfway through the gen of ps5 and they haven't announced anything "new".
I hope 2024 is the right year for them and other ps studios
Also...seems like this was an announcement for TGA for next moth, or close to it, but with the leaks they decided to push the announcement forward:

good for them, it's not an ideal announcement to make on a very popular stage like tga.
next time they announce something it will have to be up to their standards.

However, I haven't played Part 2 since launch, looking at these screens I still can't understand how they managed to pull off something similar on PS4 (the same goes for RDR2). I think they're even better than all the nextgen titles released so far

Read the small print. Disc owners can also upgrade for $10. The "digital only" just means you can't upgrade your PS4 disc to a PS5 disc version. You can upgrade your PS4 disc to a PS5 digital version (which still requires the PS4 disc to be inserted).
