Palworld has the highest concurrent player count of any paid game in the history of Steam

good, good, this just means Gamefreak will have to put some effort for the next mainline Pokemon, The Pokemon moat has been weakened

This is a Nintendo game

It's kind of fascinating watching other devs steal most of Nintendos ideas expand on it and rake in money. I remember Genshin Impact was getting hammered as a Zelda clone\rip off. Comes out and starts making billions.

Yep and it's insane because Nintendo is clearly on to something, but they won't move out of their own way at times.

When Nintendo decides to clap these guys are going to be shitting bricks lmao.

I’d be putting all that money in savings or untraceable off shore accounts because Bowser don’t fuck around.

Player counts plummet in every game. No different than single player games where everyone rushes out at launch, and then it’s forgotten.
This is just the flavor of the week. It hit critical mass, so now it creates Fomo drawing in huge crowds.

But give it a few weeks people will grow bored of it, streamers will stop playing it and it'll reach normal numbers again.

I'll be surprised if the game isnt removed from all platforms in "a few weeks" tbh

Palworld is actually enjoyable. I'm noticing a trend of it's Sony fans (not available) and Nintendo fans (upset about Pokemon similarities) that are hating it while everyone else is clearly enjoying the game.

It's funny that "some" users say that "persecution complex" is the most misused phrase on Neogaf - time and time again many of you keep proving that to be true...

It's always "X company too", you keep seeing "the enemy®" everywhere and it's always about "other people's bias", am I right ?

And people wonder why that phrase keeps getting used - aren't you boys tired of spouting the same things/excuses time and time again ?

God knows it gets tiresome after a while

just find it weird people think Nintendo is watching this with a spiteful eye.
They've literally lifted character assets from pokemon games and changed them slightly and published them in their own game

It's not a spiteful eye, it's a "We are going to sue you, we are just getting the legal papers written up" eye

As much as the game has been successful, it seems the developers have been extremely naive in regards to copyright laws, so this could all come tumbling down at any moment

If you decided to print a bunch of tshirts with a purple pikachu with a mustace on them and start selling them on the high street you are going to get sue'd by nintendo for theft of intelectual property, there is no getting around it

That’s with any game. Something hits it big, and the Fomo crowd checks it out. People move onto other games and a dedicated fanbase is left behind.

This may remain pretty big on PC, as PC gamers enjoy crafting/survival/base building games.

How Nintendo is actually taking Palworld
Saved By The Bell Shrug GIF

Haven't played it yet but the game looks great, just find it weird people think Nintendo is watching this with a spiteful eye.
Yet they were very quick to take down the fan made mods changing the pals into Pokemon... Nintendo have totally and financially ruined individuals over the years for breaching their copyright so I am sure they are not just shrugging their shoulders over Palworld. I am sure their lawyers have been hard at work trying to find any way they can to get Palworld taken down, the long it goes on without any action the more likely it is that they don't have a case.

They already sent the devs an cease and desist when they released a playable prototype of the game. Don't know if anyone remembers but that prototype just straight up used Pokemon and not monsters that looked somewhat like pokemon. If they were going to do it again, we'd have heard about it by now. I find it crazy how many people forgot about this from 2020 when it was all over the place. Even people here were making bets on when Nintendo would take it down, which they did about a week later. With Copyright law, slightly changing their looks more than just a re-color and giving them a different name is enough to escape it, Nintendo should know since they won the Donkey Kong case from Universal.

Again, they also took down the prototype that just straight up used pokemon. The devs here were smart in making the changes in character design even if it were small changes. We made bets on when the 2020 prototype would be taken down. They don't really have as strong a case against the devs this time as then they would have to sue the many other monster capture games out there. Hell, they promoted Yoki Watch.

I heard the GP(PC) version is not the same as the steam version, I played 12+ hours(steam on linux) yesterday and raids worked perfectly fine and there was no game breaking bug, I was running the game and hosting and didnt interrupt or restart the session during all that time
I just installed the update today and the raids are now working fine, thankfully. Same with the UI now having button prompts.

What time is it?

It's easy to to take something down when the infringement is blatant (the prototype, the Pokemon mod). If there is action taken against the current iteration of Palworld, it will come down to the validity-of the rumors we've seen about Pocketpair ripping off monster models to create their Pals and will have little to do with the concept of capturing monsters as we've seen dozens upon dozens of games that use similar concepts and mechanics.

I feel like they can and should monopolize all the private party server hosting instead of letting these 3rd parties to do it (and take profit) for them

I've somehow not seen this info, so I'll ask: can you play the game entirely offline? I want a single player game.

tried it but so far it's mainly a run of the mill survival game.
hope it opens up later
A vtuber explained the difference with Palworld. In this game the Pals are EVERYTHING. This means the Pals are designed to be more than just fighters, but part of your gameplay experience outside of it too. The point is to have the Pals make survival far less tedious. They will help you with every aspect of the game, as long as you get a good collection of workers with various skills. Automation basically comes easily for a reason.

Yes. Also you can adjust difficult in the Options, like item drop rates, monster heath, length of day and night, or even the option of turning nights off entirely. You can customize your experience. You can also turn on Pal Death as in they get killed if their HP gets to zero, but you need to be a sadist to want that. This game is the opposite of a GAAS as you are free to have control over the game.

That's brilliant to hear, thanks for the detailed/reasoned answer!
