I think this was inevitable the way things are going, can’t say I will be surprised.

I will never understand the adulation this management received and will likely continue to do so from the same people once all this is confirmed.

For me it’s not about PlayStation and Nintendo, it’s the lost potential Xbox itself never came close to and were cheered for it by its own community.

Here is the bad thing about this. If MS is seriously going to bow out of the bleeding edge console hardware game, that leaves Sony w/ no competition in the space. Likely means they will not be pushing as hard as they would w/o that competition in place. I hope MS doesnt give up totally on it.
Seriously doubt it. In fact they’re housing their competition inside their consoles. This isn’t Apple where they own their own chips. Consumers will naturally compare PC offerings to console ones especially those AMD in nature. Even if they somehow collude with each other, AMD can’t slack off with the presence of Intel and Nvidia.

On the other hand, Game Pass brings in $2bn a year, as well as the money MS makes on PC/Steam, where their games sell quite well.

$2 billion a year minus the expenses for licensing (which is about $1 billion/year by Microsoft's own words) and server operation costs (they might own the servers, but running them ain't free. Electricity and maintenance cost money).

I hope everyone realizes this is about how Gamepass is completely unsustainable more than it is about Xbox's failure as a platform.

Like Xbox is a failure, no doubt. But it failed BECAUSE of Gamepass and what it takes to feed it, not simply because of a boring slate of exclusives.

Microsoft doesn't need Playstation as much as it needs sales. And it can't sell this game on Xbox.

Haven't turned my Series X on in a couple months but damn... Lol no one is buying an Xbox going forward if the games release on PS, even if its months later.

Im curious the plan, spin and pie charts Phil has.

When Xbox finally dies, there would be room for a new competitor to rise. I don't expect the gap would stay unfilled for very long.

The question is what is Game Pass going to be offered on to host those wares? A scaled-back service with just 1P games on PS, Nintendo and other platforms? And even then, they are prob still going to do "early access" releases for paying B2P customers because that's what they've been doing even with the current Xbox systems.

Or does it mean future gaming hardware? Will it be a traditional console? At this point I strongly doubt it.

So every xbox game from now on is a "timed exclusive" until it hits Playstation... Makes sense for MS, who will spend like $5bi/year on all studios they got. Now imagine expending all the money and games flopped, etc. It's a massive risk and waste of money.

But I'm sure in some years all xbox games is gonna be on PS day one. MS will not stop making Xbox consoles, they will just go third party, full force, to avoid massive risks and waste of money. The more platform you got to release your game the better, in MS case ofc, since they are not selling massive amount of consoles and most of the people are moving to PC. They got ALL THE DATA. :lollipop_bomb:

So let me get this straight. Microsoft gathered a bunch of xbox gamers on the social media so them can show their support in the Activision Blizzard buyout just so in the end they could release their games on their rival platforms?

This is fun.

It’s a fantastic game, and if this is true I hope the PS exclusive folks give it a chance as you might be pleasantly surprised by it.

I have the game. It's FAR from fantastic. The graphics cam be fantastic. There are some good quests, some cool weapons. The writing might be better than Fallout 4....but as a complete package? The game is not good. The exploration sucks. There's nothing interesting to do on the planets. The design of the game and how that results in so much faster travel and loading screens is a MESS. The ai and combat SUCKS.

Why do you think it's great?

Well. The Ms had the 360. That was great. It's been downhill ever since but they had one shinning generation of greatness. Rrod aside.

OG Xbox was a really good system, too. And I think it held together better than 360, which switched course and stopped focusing on core gaming stuff 1P-wise by 2010. Plus OG Xbox didn't have any RROD type of problems.

XBO had a decent launch in spite of all the bad PR and then started falling apart, bursts with TitanFall and Quantum Break aside. I'd say the real brand rot began setting in around mid/late 2016 as the consequences of previous decisions and actions gradually started catching up with them.

If it weren't for COVID and the lockdowns, Series sales would've collapsed much sooner than they did and MS would've done then what they're seemingly doing this year, but after folding shop with hardware and only having the XGS games and maybe Zenimax titles to leverage.

At least with how things have actually played out, they might still be able to keep hardware around (but not as consoles; as gaming console-like PC devices like NUCs, laptops etc.) and they also (mostly) have ABK now.

I...just had a thought about that with the FTC ATM, but...I'm gonna hold that thought for a while.

Ain’t gonna be no timed exclusives with Xbox. Xbox as a console is done, their games will be on Sony consoles at launch after this year. Gamepass will still exist…and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it on PS5 this year at some point.
