EXCLUSIVE | Microsoft plans Starfield launch for PlayStation 5

Makes sense.

Microsoft invested a lot of capital in acquisitions and probably expects the Gaming division to be self-sufficient (or else).

With games like Starfield flopping flat on its face and coming in under expectations, the only way to seek out new revenue is to multi-platform them.

Still not a recommended game though, unless it’s years down the road and you can buy a discounted all-in-one version.

Arguably there hasn’t really been much of a point for quite a long time. Especially not Series X.

As I’ve said many times: the single most wasted console in gaming history.
Well there has been a reason if you own Game Pass. I think most people just don't know the ridiculous amount of high quality day one releases that subscription provides. Certainly haven't touched my PS5 since FFXVI because there's been no reason to.

Gonna spoiler this obvious overreaction to hopefully avoid a ban...

I'm reliving my SEGA 2001 nightmare. Fuck Sony. I think it's time to avoid gaming news, sell my PS5, and save up for a MARS FPGA to relive my 90s glory days. It was fun, y'all.

Congrats to the Sony stans here. You won. Enjoy your $100 boring movie games and $700 consoles.

Also, I hope all the purple hair shims continue to destroy Sony from within, and all we're left with is expensive PCs and Switch toy games.

OK. All good now. Starfield is pretty popular, right?

It’s obvious this would happen eventually. Games are becoming service based with their monthly subscriptions and digital market places. Multiplatform results in more subscribers.

Naturally the few consoles that are left will also be digital only. PS5 Slim’s disk player is an accessory. Fully expect digital only, cloud & service based consoles to be the standard for the future.

I disagree. Most of the day one releases aren't anything special. Ms's own games are few and far between leaving third party to fill in the gaps. Most months the drops are very lackluster.

Things must be looking pretty dire if Xbox faithful like Timdog are ready to jump ship.

Why would sell your PS5? Best place to play Microsoft and Sony games.

What have you done MS...I miss the 360 and Summer of Arcade. End of an era

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

The subscription model is too dependent on the player's lifestyle and games they play.

Gamepass can give you unlimited access to every game in existence but it could still not be worth it to many people because the fact of the matter is that many people don't play that many different games at once or maybe only play a single game/franchise at a time so the subscription model doesn't make sense for everyone.

Their split console strategy didn't help at all in my opinion and I have a Series S, but it really is just a gamepass machine, I haven't bought a single XBox game and I got the Series S for free with a phone purchase so they are probably minus money from me.

Nope. I haven’t touched GamePass in ages. Not since Lies Of P. The quality has been nowhere near good enough (same goes for Ps Plus). I don’t play multiple games at a time. I play one. And GP has not provided anywhere near enough new, great content for me to subscribe.

MS bet it all hard on GP to sell consoles, and it’s clearly failed as a strategy.

They should have made exclusive games for the Xbox. Everything would be very different right now, if they had. The truth of that is inescapable.

Games. Sell. Consoles.

Sega started killing itself before Sony was in the picture. Let it go.

As if Sony killed Sega lol. They only said wait for the PS2 if you want the best gaming experience. Sega bailed essentially in the weeks Sony launched its console in the west. Sega killed their hardware prematurely over and over, Sony kept supporting the PS1. If anything Sega was too shitty and too clueless to be sustainable in this business. But everything regarding this is well documented.

Sony does one thing right, and that is they generally don't stray too far and they keep supporting their hardware. PS3 had excellent lead out, unlike 360 and OG Xbox was killed off quickly. Sony didn't go all in on the motion control hype.

So this is Microsoft's newest strategy......seems slightly at odds with their last new strategy(GamePass)......I'll be honest I'm a bit confused, but then I don't posses the intellectual might of someone like Phil Spencer,I'm sure this will result in more record breaking profits for Xbox.

But that was the problem. Gamepass wasn't profitable, or at least not profitable enough, to justify its continued existence. The hammer has to fall at sometime.

Remind me of my younger years wasting my time not studying while being a university student. That cost me dearly. But at the time everything seemed rosy.

Congratulations. You fell for the sustainability claims and contributed to this situation by not purchasing more games.

Here is the bad thing about this. If MS is seriously going to bow out of the bleeding edge console hardware game, that leaves Sony w/ no competition in the space. Likely means they will not be pushing as hard as they would w/o that competition in place. I hope MS doesnt give up totally on it.
Ive been saying this loads and so many people in denial about it
