While this is the logical conclusion. Don’t put it past Microsoft to completely fuck up and reverse course whether it makes financial sense to do so.
I doubt it. This far in? Doubt it.

Not impossible, though. More logical for them to expect it and hope for an easier outcome.

Did they threaten Timdog or Gaz? Tim is generally a nice guy even if he's a little infatuated with MS and often doesn't see reality. Gaz though is as abrasive as they come and has a real punchable personality. Watch this from 2yrs ago if you want an ironic laugh:

I think it was Gaz threatening to kill TimDog.

I was hoping for Gamepass to fail, because I knew it wasn’t sustainable and that it would a long term net negative. There was no way they could deliver $100M+ games Day 1 without gaining a massive influx of subscribers.

Me too! It was VERY obvious why Gamepass was bad for the overall business of video games. Multiple CEOs said this in the CMA hearings, but some people didn't want to listen.

My guess:

Phil is going to confirm the next console, they are going to describe (carefully) a way SOME games will come to all platforms day and date (CoD) and some games will come to PlayStation years later. They are going to make this out to be a big nothing. Yet in reality, when you cross that rubicon and you starting putting Gears of War on PlayStation, that is it, that is your identity gone. There are only a small handful of Xbox users in the grand scheme of things. Many of them have built their entire personality around being toxic on social. Its over.

It is funny how things do change in retrospect, huh?

The deal was struck in 2022, on the height of COVID growth craze. Xbox was lax, PS5 was understocked and snatching CoD from Sony seemed like a good endgame. Since then both the deal and the market changed so much that it was just too late to cancel the
takeover.

Fast-forward to 2024 and: COVID growth was a fad and we're in the phase of mass layoffs, CoD-snubbing stratagem failed due to CMA with binding agreements, cloud growth basically dead due to sub-licesing to Ubisoft for 15 years, plus GamePass imploded due to meager growth even with Starfield day-one, so no CoD Day 1 there either.

And here we are, ABK is a huge $75b stone that is hanging on the neck of a hardware business that was drowning without the outside help.
I wonder if COD 2023's horrid ratings had anything to do with Microsoft's change in plans?

Has anyone checked on Frosk since this bold prediction and how "she" could be handling the potential news to come?

This video was recorded in December of 2021!!!!!!!!!! And they were talking about how good Starfield and Avowed would be in 2022 lol.... And then the lady has the nerve to say in 2022, Playstation would be a dead-man walking is NUTS! Especially considered what's happening now.

Not happening obviously:
1)Microsoft announcing formally they're going third party
2)Microsoft leaving hardware business

Happening:
1)New strategy focused on becoming the leading worldwide publisher, they need to bring their games on as many platforms as possible and that will include Playstation/Nintendo.
2)Not everything will be guaranteed to release everywhere and/or at the same time but in general you can expect most of their games to become fully multiplatform.

Potentially happening:
1)Details on new hardware strategy, what hardware will mean to them from now on, if they will work with other OEMs.
2)Transition to 100% digital happening this year
3)Update on the viability of all their games being available on Gamepass day one including COD.

I can’t keep up with all the posts and threads and posts in each thread -

I have no skin in the game because I’m not interested in any XBOX games except for maybe Hellblade 2 (if that comes to PS5, I’ll buy it)

So can I just ask:

1. Are we all posting rumors? Or is it safe to say we have enough information to conclude that XBOX will definitely go third party & make games available to other consoles?

2. If it was false, wouldn’t Phil jump on Twitter/X and nip it in the bud, while still having his big business update next week?

I don't get it: the "Happening" part contradicts the "Not happening part"

I mean the end result is gonna be the same... :D

Emmm that's precisely the PR work "pie_tears_joy:
They won't name what they're doing going third party, they won't abandon hardware although it will be just an option from now on so practically Xbox as a traditional console platform will be over.

I think they will announce "plans" for new hardware next week in order to keep people invested while they remain in a transitional state.

Think similar to the project scorpio/scarlett reveals, nothing concrete or set in stone but just enough to keep people hanging on.

But this would MURDER all Xbox Series sales for the next 2 years....

I think they may do it just to ensure people buying into their ecosystem is still safe

The vast majority of gamers don't care whats coming 2 years down the road, thats just us who frequent forums
The casual demographics only hears "xbox is dead, Xbox games are coming to Playstation".

Then by the time next-gen starts, it's going to be an impossible task to recover.

Especially if Sony starts talking PS6 by that time.
There's Switch 2 as well.

The true casual is not hearing any of this shit imo

It is becoming pretty obvious:

But I'm not sure what some people don't get. Of course it'll start off as legacy titles and maybe Starfield. But can't you see the pattern on where it's going? How can Daniel Ahmad be so short-sighted?

But the word will get around that the following is true.....

- New console is coming in 2 years
- Some Xbox exclusives are coming to PS5
- Not all Xbox 1st party games will launch on GP day one
- COD isn't coming to GP day one
- Price (small) increase for GP in 2024 or early 2025. Maybe $20 a month.

If this happens and you don't have an Xbox today, why buy one after this? Most would at least wait until 2026 and keep playing on what they already have.

Yeah, the moment Spencer announces even ONE Microsoft game on Playstation/Switch, it's gonna make the headlines of every internet news site in the world

"Microsoft gives up, they will release games on Playstation/Switch"

No way they can get out of that mess

Even in 2026 nobody will buy their consoles after they went third-party, knowing they could pull the plug on hardware at any time

It's a ticking bomb at that point

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Whatever they announce next week. The end game will be full blown 3rd party.

They are getting outsold

90-10 in France.

100-0 in Japan

70-30 in North America.

85-15 in Spain

80-20 in UK

They want to become the biggest publisher on earth. In order to do that , you have to buy more publishers.

In order to do THAT… you have to put everything on all platforms. Day 1. Otherwise you get blocked from buying more.

It will happen. Maybe not next week. But you’d be crazy to think that’s not the endgame.

. there's less than zero percent chance of the next elders scroll being exclusive now.

It's over for them if they release any of their once thought premium exclusives on Playstation. Someone would have to be a fool to think otherwise. Would be like Sega releasing Sonic on the Super Nintendo while telling Genesis owners that they are still in the fight. The next "Xbox" will get the same reception the Sega CD and 32X got. It basically amounts to this to potential and loyal customers:

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 - thought of something based on our last conversation here. If Xbox announces (now or later) a new handheld Steam-deck type console, primarily for streaming Game Pass in 2025 or 2026, will that really be considered a "next-gen Xbox console?"

Like, a Rog Ally or Steam Deck wouldn't be considered a next-gen handheld console. If it is streaming only for Game Pass, it would be similar to PlayStation Portal (when Cloud streaming is activated on that), which also wouldn't be considered a next-gen console.

What are your thoughts / opinion on this?

The handheld will be more of the current Series S along side a new Zen 5 next gen traditional console
