The big epic battles are fun, but half the time I don’t know what’s going on. You can’t control your pawns, so there’s not much strategy behind these fights. I’ve killed Cyclopses, Minotaurs, Ogres, Chimeras, Lich, a Dragon, and a Hippogriff. All I did was whack at them, occasionally climb on them and whack them some more. When they get staggered, I don’t know how it happened, whether it was something I did, or if one of my pawns that I can’t control did something. There’s no challenge to these fights. There’s no “Oh man that’s a Chimera? I better unlock my skills and get better gear before I take on this challenge!” The sense of power progression just isn’t good.
Completely agree.

I didn't want to, but I ended up installing a no item weight mod I found on NexusMods. No regrets.
Does it make achievements not attainable?

Cuz if it doesn’t I’ll be using that mod later tonight. Ain’t no damn way I’m hunting scarabs and running back to town every 10 minutes .

Idk about his mod, I use the Wemod app and am still getting achievements.

Had an interesting encounter just now. Went to sleep and woke up to a bunch of people cowering. "Oh, enemy attack. More Saurians?" Nah, it's a mother fucking Drake. Right in the town square! Was still playing trickster so I pulled him outside so there weren't people all around. Unfortunately it bugged out and they got stuck on the wall. I ran back inside and swapped to thief to actually attack since my pawns were also kinda goofed with the bugged enemy and not doing much damage.

Sadly once I crumpled them to the ground they did get up and flee so no victory.

What time is it?
I'm about level 19 now. I really appreciate the quest structure so far. You get small tasks, large tasks, and everything in between and they smartly have quest givers find you when completing quests so there is always a lot to do. I also like how organic it can feel. There is a mission to find a missing child, which also bleeds into the main quest, and as you are asking children around the area, one of the children spawns a different quest line. The major negative I see so far is the mob density in the open world, how quickly the respawn and how it seems the same monsters always spawn at the same locations which goes for both the trash and epic mobs. It feels like I've killed 8 billion goblins, wolves and harpies by now and you encounter them every few paces when adventuring. More games need to let their open world breath.

I'm ok with it. If you don't feel like fighting you can run past them in my experience, I started doing that cause some mobs don't give much XP in some areas. Plus, when I change vocations, I like how fast I can power level vocations cause of the density. If there were less, people would complain about that as well. Again, you can run right past them, I even outrun Dragon's that catch my scent.

Really enjoying the game. Don't want to stop playing but I gotta say some stuff.

2 caveats though.

DD1 music is superior to DD2 music. Switch to DD1 music asap. DD2 Imminent Triumph is so tame in comparison. Almost too quiet IMO. Lacks that OOMPH.

Also for Mages and Sorcerers they really gutted the fuck out of our spell list. These spells were deleted/pruned. Some spells like Comestion and Bolide were replaced by Salamander and Meteron respectively.

Blearing
Brontide(Lightning Whip)
Dark/Holy : Affinity/Boon
Frazil
Exequy
Fulmination
Ingle
Lassitude
Miasma
Necromancy
Petrifaction
Silentium
Voidspell
Magic Billow
Magic Agent
Grapnel
Perdition
Sopor
Spellscreen

Also worth noting that Elemental affinities no longer have different attacks. Just elemental property. So RIP Dark or Holy Focused Bolt. My personal big offender is no Miasma or way to build around Poison, Petrify, Slows, Torpor.

Pretty upsetting on how they streamlined magic in this game. Mega oof. No Dark Magic available to use in the game at all.
I actually prefer the music in 2 - more ambient, subtle, perfect for my style (obviously hugely subjective, but I love it!).

Not sure what fights people are doing to say ER is way harder than this, I only died like 20 times all up in ER, have conked it a few times already in this and love every second - have been wandering where I probably shouldn't though lol😅🙌

Just had a one on one duel in a town. It was super satisfying as a high level fighter. Full moon slash, gutting skewer, hindsight slash, and perfect block are an awesome combo.

I think the reason I love this combat so fucking much is because it combines souls with Diablo, two of my favorite genres. The skills are like Diablo skills and the stamina meter even forces a cool down on the skills. The stamina meter is essentially like your resource like mana or fury. Add the awesome physics and cool and funny things that can happen. Then being able to mount large creatures or throw/hold down smaller ones and it makes for an amazing time.

Tag, you're it.
Just installed REFramework and it's a game changer because you can modify the FOV! So, SO much better. I really encourage those playing on PC to give it a try:

Also free camera is cool to take screenshots (Imgur is compressing quite a lot but whatever, you get the idea ^^)

Unlocked Mystic Spearhand. It's good but I already miss thief. The health/stamina is much better here but I miss the speed and moveset. Esp. Skull splitter.

Will unlock more Spearhand skills before deciding which vocation will be main though.

Where are all the cool armor/weapons loot at? Rarely ever get anything meaningful from chests.

Make sure you guys remember where you found your first seeker token. Put a marker down on the map. This is legit PSA material. There's 250 of them so it's easy to forget the first, but its crucial that you remember
I found one and I have no idea where. Have been exploring like crazy. Is there any way to find out?

The game would be much more interesting if archers/mages were closer to combat and had a dodge. Like the bowguns in monster hunter. Where you shoot, dodge and plant bombs.

Try to get the skills you want before deciding on main. For example, thief has a last augment that augments strength. I am just levelling up random classes for their skills. Mystic Spearhand sucks ass, archer is the best. Thief and Archer have a lot of good augments that you have to unlock.

I think I've just fucked myself here, I need to get to Merle but because I took the Oxcart ride away it didn't fill in the map, I ended up going what I thought was the way

U6TKc7O.png

But now I can't actually get to the town from where I am, so I either have to backtrack through fucking Lizardmen town and hope I can get back there or try and somehow get to Merle from where I am

On the plus side, I took out a big Troll with 3 life bars, hell of a fight though
Spent 2 hours here trying to figure out the same. There's no way from here afaik. I had to go back to vernworth and then took and ox cart from the northern gate. That takes you to Melve.

Yeah I think I will check out the all skills for Spearhand and see if I like anything. I liked the idea of it so I wanted to main it but rn it feels like a step back from Thief.

The sense of exploration and discovery is so exciting in this game.
Its exactly how I felt playing Dragon's Dogma for the first time.

Literally covered most of the map as soon as I was free to roam around.
Got to level 15 only to realise I want not able to enter Vermund, so had to trek back to progress the main quests, felt pretty powerful after upgrading my vocation, especially after using only one skill for hours.

What I love most is that, there are more enemy/boss encounters.
Totally addicted again, just hoping for some PC performance patches from Capcom.

ER has a bad camera and bosses have really dumb hitboxes and hit collisions leading to artificial difficulty plus it is really I guess "stiff" in it's methodical combat that usually leads to hit the enemy from behind.

Deaths in Dragon's Dogma have always been fair. Even the stupid ones where a Cyclops yeets you off a cliff right into the water where you become Brine food.

You can already tweak it some, I guess this makes it to where you can zoom even further? I am afraid of mods like this when Capcom are still busy releasing patches. Afraid it will fuck something up when the patches hit if this is installed.

Whoever said to level Trickster was totally right, Seeker tokens now make a chime sound so you can find them. I suggest surround sound or headphones. Makes them much easier to find.

Yep, I managed to get back in about 30 mins, stopping for the random quests and fights along the way, not all bad though I picked up a bunch of Onyx to sell and levelled up a bit, ran past 2 Cyclops though, fuck fighting them yet

Off to Merle again finally, all tanked up and have 3 pawns of different vocations as well, though the thief one seems a little underpowered so far

So travelling with Gregor and he has gone missing on the way to the capital, where the fuck is he? I ended up going quite far ahead as he just runs off. So I assumed that when we camped out he kept going. Have I seriously got to go all the way back to melve to get him again? I'm kind of lost. One Ferrystone at the start of the game would have been handy for this reason.

Edit: Yup, travelled back and he was running through the gate. That's frustrating but hopefully I get there in one piece with him. No more stopping off to explore for now!!

Took me longer because I went from Vernworth to another city "checkpoint" something. Then I thought it would be easier to go north from there. Then when I went up and looked for a way wasted time there. Eventually I realized there's probably no way from here to Melve. So then I went back to vernworth on foot and from there it was easy via ox cart.

Helped me understand how the game map and exploration works. Was a bit frustrating at first but now I understand. Today having fun with exploration.

Also using different vocation for pawns. Thief me, Mage main pawn, Fighter/warrior and Archer/sorcerer and second and third. Formula has been working quite well so far.

I installed 5 mods and I still get steam achievements.

Install with Fluffy Mod Manager and select "no weight" when prompted

I think everyone needs to watch this video about the Dragonsplague disease that the Pawns are always talking about.

Vendors do get replaced if it happens, but apparently everyone else genuinely dies unless you revive them, super crazy mechanic.

I love this, I know it is going to piss off a lot of ppl but pawn keeps talking about this and if you fall for it well it is your problem.

I love that this game gives you all the info you need to overcome everything without forcing the player to take some actions, we aren't used to this stuff anymore, we want to have complete control on what happens and we want to be "reminded" and helped to deal with situations.

This game made me realise even more that my love for videogames wasn't decreasing, it was the games the problem.

Handholding destroyed videogames cause it doesn't let you feel smart, it doesn't let you face the consequences of your action, games nowdays just tell you what to do.

So, how are you approaching the game? Are you going just for the quests? Exploring on your own? I was doing all the quests in Vernworth and was getting kinda bored, they are interesting but also more about story telling rather than fighting. So I fucked off and went exploring on my own, found a drake and got bolide'd to death. Fun times.

Haha I found that drake. Noped out of there with righteous determination.

I’m sitting on the quest that moves the game to the second act. Taking my time to upgrade, do side quests, etc. Just play how you want. You can always clean up the stuff you missed in NG+.

50 hours played, still not far at all in main story. Taking my sweet time. Loving every second. It's been a while since I lost track of time. I looked at my watch thinking it was midnight and it was 5am.

Killed a second drake. They are such bitches. I always have to camp immediately since everyone is beat the fuck up. One of my pawns barely survived. I camped then was running across a bridge to continue my merry adventure and a harpy threw her into the brine. Imagine surviving meteors raining on your face only to go out like that.

The thing is that the pawn system brings most of the unique gameplay. This is like telling people to not pick up any power ups in a Mario game.

He is saying you can reduce the number of pawns you employ to increase difficulty. That's not saying to not use pawns.

Huh just like that I finished the main story in like 20 hours at lvl 30. Is that it? Very underwhelming.
I think there is a sort of fake ending or something like that, since some people have claimed to finish the game without unlocking the post game.

Were you rushing the main quest or something?

No not really I did most of the side quests. The problem isn't the post game stuff, the main quest is stupid and rushed. I looked around and it seems that's it basically.

Doing a bit of both. I'm on thief vocation now so doing some grinding and playing around with the skills. The Captain Brant quests get a little boring. Snuck into the palace twice now. Learned the hard way about not selling equipment as the palace guard will definitely attack you if you are not wearing their stuff. Thankfully there is another set available in the well next to the jail. Wanting to find some more side quests to get involved with so I don't rush through.

How in the world did you do all that in 20 hours? I'm already at 30 and I'm still not done with stuff in Vernworth.
