Project X Zone |OT| Reiji & Xiaomu VS The World

So guys help me here, Project X or Animal Crossing

*I like both*

If you already like AC you're guaranteed to get more play time for your money, and over a longer period of time as well.

PxZ is more likely to become rare, especially a LE, so if you want to hop on that, you should get PxZ first,

You'll have to clarify as there are 3 games in the series. Episode 3 is the most popular.

I mean Xenosaga episode I, I start playing it because I want to learn more about Kos-mos. The first time I've been introduced to her was in SRT OG Saga Endless Frontier. I played the first episode, but the only issue I have with the game was the battle system. I played Xenosaga I and II on ds, and beat the game. However, it was an import so I don't know whats going on in the story. Should I just watch cut scenes of I and II, and play episode III. Or should I just play episode I and II on ps2?

Do you like next-gen dress up?

I actually liked the clothing customization in RoF. I also liked almost everything else about that game. Such a cool battle system.

Are there any interviews about what went into the decision making of which characters appeared in Project X Zone? I'm wondering why some obvious exclusions like Sonic from Sega happened.

Resonance of Fate can be quite fun, but it has a really difficult learning curve/tutorial at the beginning. But once you learn the mechanics, it's great.

Resonance of Fate is one of my favorite JRPGs this gen. The battle system, while a little complicated, is one of most fun I've had in a JRPG. The story itself isn't anything special, but I really like the characters in the game. The music is bitching, graphics are good, and it's pretty challenging (though it's not particularly a beginner friendly JRPG). It's only $19.99 on Amazon (though I guess the price may vary depending where you live), so I'd give it a shot!

I still haven't finished it myself because I got stuck at a difficulty spike near the end, but PxZ has made me want to go back and finish it.

Looks like I'll check out RoF some time down the line, any gameplay clips?
and after I check on Amazon, I wish Endless Frontier wasn't expensive as hell ;_;

I love the .Hack theme (EDIT: Stairs of time ^^). It reminds me of the songs you can hear in the Naruto Storm series when the guitar chimes in.

I have the four games (not GU) I bought from a fellow GAFer but didn't even tried yet, I should try them soon. D:

EDIT: Damn, Akira's theme is growing on me as well, it's style reminds me of Vanguard Bandits

The closest thing I can find is the Japanese-only Iwata Asks (English summary here). The only statement that might answer your question is this one line in the summary:
- When determining the characters and titles, they first categorized what they are looking for and then created a relation chart to ensure that there's a level of items which can be used to associate a character to another character (Ryu and Akira are both fighters etc).

Finally got Yuri and Estelle. I LOVE that their intro music was a remix of March of Brave Vesperia, best world map theme ever.

Yeah, this game made me want to check out Endless Frontier and then I shat bricks when I saw the prices on Amazon and ebay.

Christ me actually understanding how systems work has slowed me down considerably since now I horde meter and are consequentially a lot less efficient.

Looks like the game is back in stock on Amazon. Not sure if it includes the Limited Edition stuff, but the goodies are listed in the description.

I caved in and downloaded it last night :p

It's a lot of fun. I'm sure you'll like it. I feel like this is a game that I'll always be able to go back to just to revel in the glorious sprite animation of my favorite characters.

I know the feeling. Every battle takes me forever because I try to optimize EXP gain. It's even led to me having to restart battles because I was an idiot.

One battle, I think it was Chapter 18 or so? I set everything up perfectly to kill the stage boss with the Dante/Demitri with a Special + Max Combo with some criticals. As I was skipping turns to cycle back to Dante/Demitri, I forgot that one of the conditions was that another pair could not die during the fight. After playing for over an hour, and right before my killing blow, the boss attacked that particular pair, killed them, and I sat staring at a Game Over screen. Feels bad, man. :(

Counter more. If you already are, use heals/supers more. If that's not necessary, use skills that use meter.

Having max meter is a waste of meter

The problem is I'm always trying to position for a multi-attack but not all characters have map attacks (yet?) and the ones that do for some reason tended to hang around the back lines so they were never in a good position...

Love that Lord Raptor made it into the game, still salty though that my favorite Darkstalker never joins the party as a support unit ala Heihachi, Juri, and other villains. (He seems like a good fit too, he's not complete bad guy level like Jedah and functions more like a minion during the game)

Oh well at least he got in before Felicia. :p

Multi-attacks are good, but you don't get 440% experience for them. It's just quicker

You get a 40% bonus. That's pretty good, especially if you gain EXP by weakening them all first.

I'm not sure where you're getting 440% from. The most possible EXP that I can imagine anyone getting from a single battle is 25% (all crits) + 15% (150 combo) + 20% (super finish). Of course, not including EXP skills and accessories, but those would apply to Multi-attacks as well.

I freakin' love Jedah's laugh when he attacks you. Just a shame you can't hear it on his character profile.

I also wish there was a sprite gallery so you can see all of the different sprites that went into making each character & their moves. Closest thing is when the game slows down after a K.O for a few seconds.

Onward to chapter 19.

true, but it's 140% of the normal experience of one attack. 4 monsters, if killed in one attack each would be 400% (4 * 100%). If each monster would take more than that, well, it would be even higher.

If your goal is to level faster (less total chapters) then killing them individually would yield the greatest total EXP. If you are going for speed, multi-attack it up

440% would be (4 monsters * 100% + 40% bonus)

obviously that's not the case.

What? You get an EXP bonus for the KILL, not just the attack. That bonus applies to every monster there. You get base EXP for attacking, but the most EXP is garnered from the actual kill. That said, if you farm enemies and get that EXP from attacks by whittling down their health, and then do a Multi-Attack, that 40% bonus applies to all base EXP gained.

Killing each monster individually would net you 400%, but killing them in a Multi-attack also nets you 400%. The only difference might be the base attack EXP that you get from the attack, but that's negligible if you already whittled them down.

That's my understanding anyway. You definitely do not only get EXP for one "attack" if you do a Multi-attack. I've had characters level up twice or three times from doing one of those.

GuardianE

Santa May Claus
so you're saying a 4 hit kill with a multi-attack is 440% then?

440% is a weird way to look at it because a monster is not 100%. All four monsters is 100%.

Let's say that each enemy was 50 EXP.

50 EXP X 440% = 220

However, that's not accurate, since the bonus applies to the overall base EXP gained. The 40% bonus applies to all enemies killed. This is true regardless of whether you perform individual kills or a multikill.

(50+50+50+50) X 140% = 280

I'm assuming that the game calculates it in the latter way. I haven't actually tested it, so I can't verify it, but I can say that EXP gained is not simply based on the attack. It's based on the kill as well. That's why you get so much EXP for killing bosses, even if the actual attack was paltry.

Ultimately, killing each enemy individually does technically net the best EXP. You're right about that. But it also requires a lot of XP usage and criticals. And the difference isn't quite as huge as you're making it out to be. Of course, this is all based on observation (except the math), so I'd definitely be interested in seeing some stats one way or another.

I am freakin' OBSESSED with this game. I clocked 14+ hours in about 3 days, which is completely insane for me. I have been dreaming this game. The gameplay is so fun and the characters are so varied. Sure, the story is batshit crazy, but it's such fun fanservice.

Anything I should know before diving in? I'm working on the prologues now normally getting 100 plus hit combos but I feel like I should be doing more

Oh, I loved the customization. I count that as a selling point.
It was probably one of the main reasons I picked up the game. Customization in most RPGs doesn't usually interest me, but a lot of the clothes and outfits in RoF were pretty realistic, so that was probably it. Same with Soul Hackers.. those characters had some cool outfits.

There are some practical breakdowns in this thread, and actually we don't really know everything right now (as is evidenced by the EXP discussion above, lol).

Some practical tips:
The flow of combat is based around trading EXP gain, Damage output, and XP gain. You can look in the stats of each pair. Check out their individual moves. Each move gains certain XP meter and does a certain class of damage. As you've already figured out, performing each different attack during the battle phase will net you a +1 attack.

Special Attacks cost 100% XP meter. You can actually earn up to 150% XP meter. Meter above 100% can be gained during Cross X (where you have assists comboing your opponent along with the primary pair). Cross X, however, does not allow the enemy to be juggled, and robs you of the ability to get Critical Hits (your pair strikes the enemy just as they're about to land from the juggle).

You should pretty much always continue to juggle enemies, even after they die. You get a higher combo for bonus XP, continue to build XP meter, and get a chance at landing criticals for bonus EXP.

Special moves do huge huge damage. You get a 20% EXP bonus for Special move finishes. Multiattacks give a 10% bonus EXP for each kill. Pairs earn multiattacks at different levels, and you won't actually see them for a long time after the prologue, until your characters are around level 19. Each successful Critical Attack earns a bonus 5% EXP. High combos and high CrossX combos also yield EXP bonuses. Special attacks can be Criticals as well. I just learned that, myself.

Tech isn't explained really well, but it's a stat that gives you a higher chance of inflicting a status effect with attacks. Those letters next to the attacks in the stat menu shows the possible status effects. I forget them right now, but they're listed earlier in the thread.

From earlier in the thread:
Stun
Poison
Bind
Down

Not at a point in the game where these are major factors in my strategy so I don't know the exact effects of each, but that's what they stand for.
