'Crazy, Stupid Love' Filmmakers to Write, Direct Joker and Harley Quinn Movie

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who direct and executive produce the hit NBC drama This Is Us and who also wrote and helmed Crazy, Stupid, Love are entering the DC cinematic universe at Warner Bros.

The duo are in final negotiations to write and direct an untitled movie project centering on Batman villains Joker and Harley Quinn.

Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are due to reprise their roles as the villains, among the most popular characters in the DC pantheon, and which they first portrayed in 2016's Suicide Squad.

Insiders say that the plan is for this feature to go after the studio makes a sequel to Suicide Squad. The latter is on the development fast-track and out to directors. But the Joker and Harley Quinn movie is also moving fast as the studio has to contend with actors holding agreements, say sources.

The film is described as a ”criminal love story," according to one source, featuring the two murdering maniacs who are cornerstones in the Batman mythos.

The film has been referred to as Gotham City Sirens, a film that will showcase several top female villains from the DC stable. Suicide Squad director David Ayer was originally attached to direct, but that is changing. Robbie is aboard the project as exec producer.

EDIT 2 - Deadline has since updated their article to say this about Gotham City Sirens

DC has been all over the place with possible movies, and this one is apparently different from Gotham City Sirens, a different Harley Quinn spinoff meant to showcase several top female villains from the DC stable which Suicide Squad director David Ayer is attached to direct.

DC and WB really need to hold some kind of conference and fucking explain what the hell is going on. With all these leaks and rumors coming out the past 2 days, something must've happened.

The DCCU is emulating the animated division after all.

PS, writing a "romance" about one of the most abusive relationships in comics seems like a bad idea. If it was played straight as a Natural Born Killers-type flick that might actually be interesting.

You know I've been thinking in my head this whole time that I could see them eyeing Valentine's Day for Gotham City Sirens. So that makes a lot of sense if they put this there.

Still though... How many movies do they have in pre-production at this point??

Like DC Comics, Warner Bros has realized they're running out of interesting things to do with Batman himself, so they're branching out to tell stories around Batman.

WB wants its DC Movie Universe but it also wants to milk the fuck out of DC in general so there will be a ton of these random films that they will end up saying have no connections to the Movie Universe.

Crazy Damaged Love.

Crazy Stupid Love was 2/3rd a good movie so these guys doing some kind of Mad Love adaptation could be pretty cool. Just scrap Leto and cast someone good.
