I’m having so much fun with Shadowkeep. Just hit 900 and that’s it for today

Forsaken was alright but it didn’t make me want to continue playing or even come back to it

Yeah I took a break to watch AEW: Dynamite, but am looking forward to getting back to it. Got all to 900 last night, played through the campaign on my second character (It's a slog 2nd and i assume 3rd time through) and just started working on milestones. I didn't look up any leveling guides but 900+ SEEMS like it's gonna be rough plus praying for drops like always, but worse cause my Prime Engrams are only like 3 above my characters level, so you don't get a good jump in one slot to help the others grow with it.

You can use the vault, or one of the apps to move high level items to your other characters. You could do this even before New Light to an extent.

I’m not sure if new items go off:
  • your highest single item; or
  • an average of your highest items in each slot; and/or
  • if you need to equip them or not.
The patch notes implied equipping them was not even required; maybe? Hard to tell. :messenger_relieved:

Regarding campaigns, I assumed I’d be going through everything again. I’d definitely run them with new players just to get the Exotics you end up receiving as rewards. But it’s also funny to take a step back from the middle of The Red War, and say “Hey, want to go do an exotic quest?” It feels so wrong, but also so right! :messenger_astonished:

Warning:
It’s actually about five or missions of intro The Red War before you can actually fireteam the Legacy campaigns as a new character.
  1. Play through the tutorial Old Russia introduction.
  2. Pick up Legacy: The Red War from Amanda in the new Tower.
  3. Play the other tutorial in a burning old Tower.
  4. Board and conquer Ghaul’s ship.
  5. Walk really slowly through The Last City; and the surrounding mountains.
  6. Introduce yourself at The Farm.
  7. Break into the EDZ and find the traveler’s shard.
  8. Talk to more people at The Farm.
It’s a bit agonising to have a group of people in chat all at different stages; all thinking that it’s almost over and we can almost co-op.

The Red War is actually a pretty sick campaign. Like, when you are on Ghaul’s ship the first time it’s actually flying in a loop, fast, over The Last City if you look down. And entering the Arcology on Titan for the first time is a highlight; escaping in vehicles. Boarding The Almighty is probably the sickest mission in the campaign. Taking back The Last City towards the end. :messenger_ok: Gosh, Mercury sucks in comparisson; should have been one sick mission, instead of seven mediocre ones.

While we were doing the second mission in the EDZ, I remembered you can pick up the starter for the Thorn quest line from the hidden camp. You walk right past there as part of the story so it was no big deal for me; but sick secret for the guys I was playing with. :messenger_sunglasses:

Yeah when you move over your 900 weapons it kind of takes and average of what you should get so it wasn't too bad to burn a ton of materials at vendors to get to 900, I just want that damn campaign off the checklist :messenger_tears_of_joy:

-Also, you do not need to have them equipped, but depending on activity until you're leveled up it may be best to stick to high stuff for the damage output

That's a cool thing for new players, just wait til they have to do the quest ;)

My advice to my friends; and myself has been to: Do a lap to pick up every quest across the maps; and accidentally complete parts them while doing the campaigns. Don’t ask about the giant gold cabal yet, just do what it wants.

Thanks for the advice around equipment; it’s kind of funny that my mate has a higher average minute-to-minute score because I’ve got 750 exotics bogging me down. I honestly thought:“When New Light launches and everything hits 750, my old exotics will become relevant again!”

But the reality was that, they were obsolete from the very start; when I opened up my free-crate of full legendary Vex armour and Eriana’s Vow as part of the reward track at 751.

(I think it would be nice if Exotics just assumed your average gear score dynamically instead of needing regular infusion.)

Back to the Grindstone!!!!! Nothing to awesome drop wise yet, but my Titan did get a 903 Helm of Saint-14 with a 70 total score (No idea what is considered good...)

Nothing like a 7 out of 8 chance for your Prime Engram to be an increase and it hits the same fucking spot as your 1 high item already. Bungie needs to fix that shit, especially with the lower amount of rank ups we'll have. I miss the choice of armor or gun from D1, bring that back

There’s another cosmodrome mission where you get the riskrunner catalyst...
Seems odd considering that Riskrunner was also one of the options you can pick on Io as a reward during The Red War. It was my first pick; and my favourite. Hopefully they still offer me and my friend Sunshot and Graviton Lance.

Those catalysts were put into the game awhile back. I have the graviton one from the faction rally but got the others in random loot tables.

Took a good chunk of the day but my son and I grinded The Exotic DeathBringer Quest out today! He has a PS4 Pro in his room
and I have mine in the living room so it makes for a good fireteam! :messenger_sunglasses:

Also finally got my Blizzard, Steam and PS4 cross save nightmare under control and successfully linked my PS4 Pro
characters to my Steam account for PC play.

My Steam user id: NeoGAF-Kaisersoze
Include the hyphen! Cheers!

I enjoyed the final mission quite a bit.

I’m just browsing the YouTube lists now. In addition to all the quests... yea I’m in no rush.

And the seasonal content hasn’t even started to roll out yet.

... it’s too much.

So I got the quest to try the Leviathan raid. I know there is no queue for raid so how does that work?
First create a striketeam of 6 then the option is available somewhere?

So leviathian content can be tricky to find since there’s 4 leviathian raids.

Go to Nessus on the director. It should be near the menagerie and tribute hall icons on the lower left side I believe...

To create the fireteam you just add players from your roster. Or invite them to a party chat thru an lfg webpage or app. The official destiny app from bungie is worth trying since you can invite them directly to your game from it.

However, I’d suggest trying the menagerie before a raid experience. It’s a six-player activity without matchmaking. Not really a raid but it gives a loose idea of some mechanics you could see in some kind of raid.

I came across a weird bug - in fullscreen mode when it came to changing the settings , it was completely white. Switching to borderless mode brought it back to normal. Not a good start..

Dang, just finished the Hero version of Nightfall: The Ordeal with 2 randos, that was kind of rough with me the highest of 910 running it. Kind of nice to go back to them setting challenging modifiers instead of us choosing the same setup each week.

D1-veteran here....How I have missed it (the music is awesome!!!)

So I bought D2 at Battle.net, played through the campaing and not much else and that was 2 years ago. Switched over to Steam only to realize 1) how solid the gameplay is and 2) I've got no clue what to do. I don't want to plow through that campaign again with a new character....so my question isn't unique here. Got any tips on what to do/focus on for a newborn D2 player?

If you are f2p like me I have been doing the world quests: Go to EDZ - do the quest line, go to titan - do the quest line. Some strikes from the vanguard playlist.
You could do the other 2 free campaign if you don't want to do the red war again.
If you bought shadowkeep I guess do that campaign.

Edit: feel free to join our new steam group too. We still haven't created a clan though.

Yeah guess I am (playing the F2P game that is). I only transferred it from Bnet from Steam.

Hmm. Yeah guess I could do some strikes to start with and then move on to Shadowkeep. Thanks!

How do I unlock the Dreaming City?

Been completely out of the game since a month after D2's release and tbh, all the menus seem so convoluted and confuse the hell out of me atm.

Fam, what’s the best and fastest way to reach 900 with multiple characters?

Get your 1st character to 900, then move your 900 guns to your 2nd and use planetary materials for armor drops, then rinse and repeat for 3rd. Each one will take less time than the previous. If you don’t have planetary materials, crucible has always been a reliable shortcut for leveling. As always, make sure to complete bounties.

Thank you sir. And for a single character that’s around 860 power?

First post on gaf, though i lurk around here for more than a decade.

First time player here, bought d2 with shadowkeep, discovered yesterday that Forsaken is not include on this pack which is a bit bummer. Is forsaken really necessary?
What is the correct order to play this game? Storywise.
And what is the best way to enjoy this playing solo?

if you have mats, vanguard tokens, blind well, menagerie, or crucible every drop will be above your light. So the quickest would be mats, if you have them. From there, opening world chests seem to have gear drops and high value targets drops gear.

The absolute worst thing about destiny 2 is this right here. Also can't even join a guild unless you do this same thing here. For as many strides forward bungie takes, this is a huge hole. The main reason I have never done a raid or joined a guild. Not complaining to you fyi. Just venting about how this is one of the biggest flaws.

Not sure what has changed(maybe all the newbs or people that have come back but the new people don't have exotics like these guys) but last night I played 3 rounds of crucible. Got 3 eliminiations and 6k damage in 2 of the games with my Go Figure. I could not have improved just by playing apex

Is there a GAF clan for PC? I'm not necessarily looking to get a regular group or anything at the moment, but my current clan is completely dead, so it would be nice to contribute and at least have the option to (fire)team up with Gaffers.

We currently have a steam group, clan will be created soon (tomorrow by me if nobody creates one before).

I'll keep an eye out for your clan name/info and add it to OP. Wish I could get some luck with people playing mainly on console with FTP on Steam :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Couple of questions for more veteran players:
I did a quest that got me my first exotic. The one where you have to do a lot of platforming through a chasm. Anyway the exotic is obviously around my current power level 820. So what if I really like that exotic and want a new version later on?

The season levels seems to take awfully long to level. Am I doing anything wrong or getting to 100 pretty much impossible without serious playtime?

The seasonal leveling is a new thing and I don't know how it works prior to past leveling. Once you get an exotic it's available to be re-acquired when you get exotic engrams. You also could make a second character and do the same exotic quest you just did at a higher level and the exotic will drop higher level. There's also infusion to up-level weapons/armor you already have.

Right so I'm better off keeping it and infusing it. From an engram it would be random right?

Infusing will get you the higher level exotic, but you can also pull a copy from your Collection and dismantle your old one. These Collection items level up along with you, but at 20 less than your current level I believe. It costs 7777 Glimmer, 7 shards and 7 Gunsmith Materials to reacquire an exotic you have (or once had), and you'll get 5 shards when you dismantle the old one, so it's not expensive at all.

Adding some visibility to this question (also welcome!) - I had vanilla D2, but never bought Foreskin. Is there any reason to get it now, or can I safely skip to Shadowkeep?

I'm not sure how the missions are labeled but start with the Red War EDZ missions, should lead you to Titan, then IO I believe finishing the Red War arc with Nessus. Then you can move onto Curse of Osiris Storyline, that will introduce the Mercury Planet (Smallest of the measurable distances), although it is the weakest of the D2 content it shouldn't take TOO long. Last of the free story will be Warmind which introduces Mars. Some story missions might jump back a planet or two, just watch under your quests tab for where to go next.

Forsaken introduced the tangled shore and the dreaming City locations, and other then that they had what they call the Forges, which I wouldn't worry bout. The annual pass for Forsaken included the forges,Gambit Prime, and the Menagerie (The best piece and only one worth playing from the AP in my opinion).

Once you finish all that you can begin the Shadowkeep story adding the Moon.

As far as solo play, you can still do most of what the game has, as you will be given teammates through matchmaking for strikes and lower level nightfalls. Really the only stuff you won't be able to do solo will be any of the Raids or Raid Lairs.

Welcome to the game man.

Thinking about it I might as well repurpose my old and otherwise empty clan for this.
Link to join the clan: https://www.bungie.net/en/ClanV2/Index?groupId=2818749

Obviously the most important thing is getting the banner right.
This is the GAFiest I can seem to make the emblem for now. Light vs dark theme users fight it out?

We've actually already got a clan with a few older GAF members, if you're willing to share the flag concept we can merge the idea into our clan and have 1 home. LMK.

Edit- Didn't see it was the Steam one, I am mainly like 95% on PS4 ATM. Can I steal the White Flag idea and have cousin Clans :)

I'd be surprised (but happy) if we had enough altogether to hit the 100 user cap to require a split. How many in your existing one?
There are no longer any region restrictions (as far as I can tell?) and with cross save one big clan family might be viable.
I'm probably happy either way - will update with banner settings for the light one for you.

Good call, I've got 23 in right now, did you want an invite? We can start off as one and if we hit too many (PC) users we can split off, but maybe at some point I can access all my stuff without having to buy it twice.
