DF: Grand Theft Auto 5 'Next-Gen' Upgrades Analysis: PS5 vs PS4 vs Maxed-Out PC!

What’s wrong with the logo skips?
It's a question of what are we trying to measure here. By measuring "loading times" are we trying to benchmark the hardware or the user experience? If it's the hardware, we should absolutely measure the load times on a like-for-like basis. Eg say when outlets benchmark and review a new SSD, they would run them on exact same system (apart from the SSD ofc) and the exact same software. On PC we can usually mod out loading videos, but that's not part of the evaluation. Outlets won't test load times with one SSD normally and the other with loading videos modded out.

On the other hand, are we testing user experience here? If that's the case, then all the system tricks and shortcuts that can be applied are fair game. So, PS5 logo skip feature or XSX quick resume can both be included. Both are features that are part of the normal experience in my view.

Benchmarking the hardware is quite tricky. Sometimes the loads are about the same and other times you have something like RE8. I know we have the specs of the I/O but that doesn’t necessarily translate to the user experience.

No? I just played GT7 with little to no loading… when it takes 2s I already thinks something broke on console.

So no… every game on PS5 should having loading times at least below 4s.

The loading in GTAV is ridiculous bad and people are here discussing two digits loading times as something acceptable lol

We measure whatever my console is better at compared to the other console.

Wait a minute, so if you are on the main menu of the game and choose load story mode the series consoles are actually faster than the ps5?

what a turn of events.

when we are arguing About cold boots. Does that mean if my ps5 is set to turn off entirely and not be in rest mode that it will display the logo boot screen?

so basically, I get the argument that if Sony added a feature to their console that when booting a game from rest mode or the second boot it skips the legal stuff and logos that microsofts console should entirely be able to us it’s feature of quick resume as that is a feature microsoft added to their console.

there’s no other way to look at it.

We all know PS5 can have 2-5 sec loads, so that is kind of disappointing.

What would be funny though, is if Digital Foundry came out and showed longer load times on the Series Consoles.

I wonder who going to say ban Digital Foundry.
Not on a game as complex and and advanced as GTA5.Its simulated world is only matched by RDR2.

this is a great post, if we are reviewing the “user experience” and ps5 skips logos after its first cold boot, we have to be able to reference it to quick resume on Xbox as that is a user experience benefit.

How do you quick resume between character swaps?

Yes, sir. It doesn't look like GTA V uses the SSD to it's full utilization. Aside from the instance where the logos are skipped, almost all scenarios where load times are compared, SX comes out a little faster (see video later in my post for full comparison).

Yeah, while QR expectedly doesn't always work on games which require a persistent connection ala Destiny, it works great on single player experiences. I don't think I've had issues with it in any recent game like you had some issues around the launch window. They've been improving on it non stop.

well it just loads, thats the same playing field as the PS5 so a comparison is completely fair. whats the difference in load times when changing characters?

The change character times are virtually identical with only a few millisecond differences.

Time stamped in this video here:

Don't worry about the post you quoted, he likes to come in with some weird 'gotcha' posts every now and then.

Yeah but in the context of the previous pages of skirmishing, his question is pertinent.

The PS5 should load faster for reasons we all know, but the blue rats were ejaculating over the initial load which is a feature and not because of Cerny hardware magic.

This game is obviously not the one that proves anything

To be fair game when drop FPS, drop quite lower on XSX if you look at the stats eh.

What a turn events is it? Ps5 load faster when you reboot the game because skips the logo, but for like 5 pages xbot fans said it doesn't counts because it's "an hardware features" and highly probably loading time are identical on both but faster on XSX when you use rest mode (rest mode on ps5 is notoriously slower than XSX, I mean the XSX
CPU has dedicated software tasks to handle more games suspended but not ps5, but obviously this not counts as "an hardware feature" I guess). Not sure why we are still talking about such matter yet lol.

I'm fine. What makes you think I'm not? gaslight much? Nothing wrong with the consoles. The truth is most people will see a loading screen.

I was addressing the crazed rants about the "frenzies of BS from Xbox fans" regarding QR. LOL

The bolded simply isn't correct for most Xbox players with single player games. I think I went back to the start menu once playing through GotG (update), and have been playing some older games from the backlog and haven't needed to restart those at all. Add in the new ability to pin games to QR and the realistic flow for Xbox players is to resume games from there. Obviously online games and games that are receiving an unusual amount of updates excluded.

Was never arguing QR as something to use to compare load times, it isn't. I was just pointing out that Xbox users aren't seeing those dev logos much anyway, so not a big deal. Wasn't trying to claim a "victory" over your plastic box of choice, so, you can calm down about that.

I dont really understand what you are saying here.

Imo, the only real comparison you should be doing for load times is load both game to the point you are on the "menu" and choose story mode and start the counter. Thats the loading of the game....

There is a history in this thread where a source, whom has been banned, was posted with statistics for loading from a cold boot showing 30ish seconds on PS5 and 60 ish on XsX. Without understanding what was being shown, one side of the fence took offense to this and tried to convince the thread it was faked loading and proceded to post thier own loading data. However what they posted was not from a cold boot so they jumped the gun and wrongly accused the previous source of faking thier data. Instead of admitting thier mistake they dug thier heels in and 20 pages latter here we are talking about quick resume on a console that isnt even in the OT discussion. My .02

OK, I'm just a bit confused. Is a cold boot on ps5 from when the console is off and not in rest position? If the console is completely off and then loaded up and you choose to load GTA it doesn't show the Rockstar splash and legal stuff? Or is it from rest mode?

So in this one instance the ps5 comes out on top because it skips the 30 seconds of this stuff that the xbox has to display but isn't actually loading time?

Are you ElAnalistaDeBits? Stop with your pitiful promotion, Vgtech is among the most reputable tech analysis site out there.

Essentially yeah, but why is this the discussion? I have a feeling this will pick back up in the VGtech thread.

Hopefully, Rockstar continues to make strides with performance, because it seems there’s some headroom here.
RT reflections would be nice to add.

Maybe down the line it could be possible with FSR 2.0 released through the PS5’s new graphics update.

Edit: Apparently, GhostWire Tokyo & Forspoken will utilize this new update, so I’m interested in possible gains we’ll come to expect.

I had no idea that games skipped logos on ps5. Is it how it’s always been?
Yes… for first-party game and some 3rd-parties.
It is a feature devs needs to choose to implement.

It shows only the first time you boot the game… after that the logos are automatically skipped.

Loading from the activity cards is generally the fastest way to launch PS5 games when they're properly implemented. Unfortunately the GTAV activity card to load into Story Mode seems to be broken and it gets stuck at 90%. Hope it gets patched.
I've noticed a few bugs already. The other is that if you try and play it remotely the L1 and R1 of a mobile connected controller or app doesn't register on the main menu.

Lol why was I banned from 2 other gta threads and my posts deleted? what is going on here?
wtf seriously ?

Everyone else can comment and I can't ? Is my observation on the video is wrong?
I just said that series S drops more than other consoles and don't even have ray tracing in performance mode.... Is this really thread ban worthy ?!
This is a fact. And people are saying way more outrageous things. I am not even console warring. Can't you seriously say anything about series s on this forum yet? what is happening.
How can you even have a discussion without allowing some observations... cmon

Is there a mod who banned me? Can you please at least explain what is your problem ?
Did some butthurt fanboy reported me for no reason ?!
This isn't how it works. You can't just ban someone without any reason. Judge Jury Execution. I should go gta 5 in the streets and I would have bigger chances on a fair trial. wtf

If you had your posts deleted there was a reason and you should probably take it up a with the mods privately. Reposting and complaining won't net you positive results.

With regards to XSS very few Sony fans post comments about the system sincerely or in good faith. Most of the time it's disingenuous commentary about the system that is used to make a broader point about the Xbox brand. Also those people typically do not own the system so they know the least about it.

I am not a troll or an xbox hater. It's a great console. Can't I point out under a video that S is underperforming? Is S someones abused child? c'mon. I don't even hate it. It's a great console for gamepass. I am FUCKING RECOMMENDING IT TO FRIENDS

Logos should be skipped always on all systems, so obnoxious to force people to sit through those, bury them in an optional menu. Logo skip has long been a PC gamer .ini tweak.

That YouTube video looks so stupid though calling it “cheating……………” just note they were skipped lol.

Series S having to drop features is pretty common.. it's almost becoming expected. Which is pretty sad considering the pre launch promises and marketing.

I gotta say it looks fucking terrible compared to a tricked out PC version, it's a slightly sharper smoother version of a PS3 game and those fuckers sitting in their golden palace dripping in money have a fucking cheek to charge for it... Who buys this shit

I have to say, I'm REALLY impressed how many pages of outrage and complaints and arguing 3/4 seconds loading difference makes. Congratulations guys. In the grand scheme of things Rockstar barely did any real work on this port, certainly not two years of work like they've claimed, they're not taking real advantage of the new IO speeds on either console and this is mainly brute forcing. Their shitty job doesn't reflect your console of choice here.

The XSS performs as well as the effort developers take in making games for it. This very game loads more slowly on the PS5 vs the XSX yet no one in their right mind would argue that the PS5 is 'underperforming'. The very premise of a games' performance being based solely on hardware over software optimization is typical of the disingenuous commentary on the Xbox generally.

The XSS costs $200 less than the XSX. It's obvious that the system will not perform as well as systems more expensive than it. Still despite the compromises it still has more features and games that run at 120fps than other more expensive consoles. It is a fantastic system for its target audience and you can't find a better value for a current generation system anywhere.

There has to be more to it than that, tbh. There are tons of posts about series S not holding framerate quite as good in some titles (and even going the other way and being more consistent in others), I doubt that would be a problem for the mods. Did you make a joke that was off color or something like that?
