Security systems do not check which network you are on because it's implicit in the fact you are ON the network when you are interacting with the security system. Why would you check which network you are on if you are on the network of the security system already?
What security systems do is authenticate and verify you, not check which network you are.
They have lost a lot of the core? I scream bullshit. The numbers from NPD suggest otherwise.

depends on how sensitive the materials you have are?
you are thinking of a one way security system, not security on both the client and the server?
But it is just rumor. I've seen no evidence, only hearsay. Even the leaked XDK which went out of it's way to specify Kinect was required, didn't do the same for "always online". In fact the very term "Always online" and "online required" are to different things.
This is seriously amazing. Thank you.
Assassins Creed 1 was announced after 360 was already released... It was revealed at E3 2006. Maybe she was talking about it for 3 years in private, but then that wouldnt make the situation different at all
(and as a ps3 exclusive)
Kinect tells me they can eventually win back the casual crown potentially.
But everything else rumored says they have lost a lot of the core.
Time will tell. I personally have never been this turned off about an upcoming next gen console. =(
Was going to say that.
It's funny she mentioned it, i distinctly remember the Whole AssCreed 1 incident, being shown behind closed doors as a PS3 exclusive (but journalists were reporting they were playing with a X360 controller and the console running the game was hidden under a blanket ).
Anyway.
So, if i understand this correctly, EDGE and journalists are frustrated because they know something, yet are not allowed to deny the rumors that are making the Durango sound so bad ?
That sentence has me cautiously optimistic.
He claimed to "immediately disregard the entire Adam Orth thread because it had a 'shitty title'"
He claimed to "immediately disregard the entire Adam Orth thread because it had a 'shitty title'"
This is one of those "problems" that will go away as soon as the device is actually announced. I generally find Edge's reporting to be solid but at this point all they are doing is pointing out how awkward this brief window of time is, where rumors surface just before a new product is revealed. Three months from now the conversation will be entirely different.
I have a lot of concerns about the next Xbox, but sympathy for the poor journalists who thrive off tech reveals and blockbuster previews and exclusive interviews just aren't among them.
I would be perfectly happy if they did not exist, so I do not mind if they are starving. My distaste for the hype machine spans virtually all tech fields, from hype surrounding Apple's next iPhone to reveals of new televisions to the reveals of new gaming machines.
This is how tech journalism deserves to be treated:

Not even for the Xbox 360? I remember lots of negative views back then. Xbox 1.5? Not nearly as powerful at the PS3. DVD again? Games were running on MACs at E3 and poorly at that. 720p only? PS3 was going to be 1080p! Only the controller got any good press really. People didn't really seem to care about dashboard features that much. Chat was appreciated, but achievements were too new to understand how important they turned out to be and XBLA was seen as a way to sell us old arcade games again. This was stuff being discussed even AFTER it was announced too.
ITT: People in denial.
Seriously why don't you all just admit that you can't just wait anymore? That you are just so curious to know right now what the deal is with nextbox? I can accept that, even I want to know.
What makes me angry is people talking nonsense. I don't know if Microsoft is runned poorly - they might as well be, I don't know if nextbox will be always online - it might as well be. The thing is, all these stuff have nothing to do with microsoft not revealing anything yet. Just because Sony did doesn't mean Microsoft has to. Just because people thing the situation doesn't look good for Microsoft right now, doesn't mean it will be the same when the time comes. We don't know what their plan is, why they are being secretive etc.
Deal with it.
After all, a day will come that we will know.
This is not a good answer to the question/problem at hand. Microsoft is currently being run very poorly and all you can do is post a picture in response?
Microsoft needs to create some momentum for this thing and start creating some good press.
So you believe the gaming media will be super positive after the reveal even if the rumors are true?
I honestly don't believe that. I hope they have more integrity than that and all this fuss over always online is in fact due to anticonsumerism and not because they haven't revealed the system yet.
Yes they do. It's sad to see Balmer seemingly working his damnedest to destroy everything Gates created.
Kinect tells me they can eventually win back the casual crown potentially.

How do you win the casual crowd at that price?
*Looks at Wii-U*
The point is, when the reveal happens, these vague, generalized speculations about what "always connected" could possibly mean will be thoroughly explained. A lot of the fuss about these rumors is rooted in confusion about what it really means for us in the end, and when they start hyping this thing up, they are going to have to spill all of the beans. The narrative in gaming "journalism" will finally reflect facts.
In the meantime, they are surely enjoying watching us absolutely freaking out about anything remotely related to it.
Yes I know cheeky thread title but interesting article. Although a lot of it is trying to get devs to trip over themselves and reveal something they shouldn't. Nice attempt at least on the part of EDGE. And I thought they had a solid source for news of this machine? From the tone of this article that source must have dried up.

JOURNALISTS
I'm not seeing anything factually or editorially inaccurate in that infographic. Did you miss the text down at the bottom?
No.
But why ruin my fun?
They haven't lost anyone. Maybe some folks here on GAF have prematurely jumped ship due to rumors but we'll see in the course of 8-9 weeks what everyone thinks.
Keep trolling hater GAF. Sell millions. I love this.
What?
