Yeah, when you have DS, which you already own the trademarks/copyright/history for, even though it's barely known, at least its barely known. A new IP will just have the game going "Hey, Remember Me?" years later.
So what's the point of making new IPs at all?

Using old IPs can work as a double edged sword, especially if people are aware of it's history but aren't motivated enough to dive into.

People like new. New IPs could potentially reach successes old IPs couldn't. I think DS in particular has incredible potential considering where the tropes they use come from and the strength in character design, but who knows what else they could come up with if execs don't want to dive back into DS.

Damn. Spent like 12 hours at Super Arcade today... kind of typical at this point I guess, haha. Today went pretty good, stuff I organized worked out well and people were telling me they had a better time at Rebel Up today than usual, lol. Hopefully my plans keep going well.

Vampire Savior went well. I got second, was aiming for first though, lol. Slowly getting there though. Got to meet the San Diego Savior scene as well since they showed up, so that was nice. I think Savior in SoCal is finally taking root as a proper scene, after me spending like 2 years on it, hahaha.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was a fun addition... I had been wanting to add it for a long time honestly, since most of the JoJo's player base (really strong players actually) is in California (SoCal and NorCal) and is decent sized enough for a scene for this kind of game at least. It finally worked out today since I FINALLY dragged a few key people into Super Arcade. We'll see how that goes in the future. I am so out of practice on it at the moment, I am going to need to grind.

Its some work, but I'm glad the effort I'm putting into these scenes for the games I love is showing some results... Now the question is: which game do I save next?

It's not that you can't do new IPs, but you need to make them resonant. Deep Down, for instance, is DarkSoulsxAssassin's Creed, which is derivative but gives players a point of reference. You need some sort of hook to give an audience of point of reference for it. Being generic as possible isn't a good thing.

It's not so much that new "IPs" are bad, though, as it is that there isn't really a good "genre" for a FG IP that hasn't been explored already by the company or a competitor. Fantasy's really the only area that hasn't been done and..that doesn't seem like a good fit.

Looks like it'll be the middle of the night for me when you guys start this; I'll be sure to watch the archives though, because damn I wanna see some high level Jojo! <3

To be honest it was mostly about 2 high level players this time around, though they are like probably the 2 best in the US, lol. Usually I'd also include myself with the high level players but I am waaaaaaaaaaay too out of practice at the moment.

Gonna see if I can drag some another JoJo's specialist by for the next time I do this, and also train myself back up. Hopefully the other guys start taking it seriously if we start playing it a bit more regularly too.

You seriously complaining about a buff to Ken's U1 non cinematic damage which has been a god damn joke since Vanilla?
They buffed the damage on his U1, HP SRK and fireball.

I'm saying Ken is already a strong character, Deejay remains the flabby and sick black Dan that Capcom hates.

Guile aka the Superior Deejay, gets all these great substantial buffs to make sure that Deejay will truly have no shot in the matchup.

Would not be surprised to see some of the Guile buffs rolled back.

They already rolled back some Guile buffs. Not all the way but like half way as with most of the other cast members.

And the problem isn't Guile being too good it's Dee Jay being too shit. No need to nerf Guile so that the two start to become comparable.

That was incredibly subtle.

Also I will always pick DeeJay over Guile. To hell with the matchup.

Everybody in SF4 thinks their main isn't that good. Even the Fei Long/Cammy players are like "They're not THAT good actually I'm hoping for buffs learn to play the game back in my day we didn't cry for nerfs if you were real etc"

This describes every top Marvel player ever except Justin Wong.

"My team is fair, every other team is cheap!"

And then we always have a top player saying "meh I'll not play <insert cheap character here> anymore when the new version comes out", but they always do

He's also the only SF guy who I saw call for nerfs to his own character, lol.

Yeah, I agree that the solution is "buff Dee Jay." - I was just mentioning that based on what EH was reporting about the Japanese loketest this weekend.

The second installment of the holiday adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross is out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwE15ZDBo9I&feature=c4-overview&list=UUTDdH72PnLY1V_ERklKSXMg

I dunno, I can't even imagine that someone like Flocker could say with a straight face "Zero's not THAT good, he can only kill a character if he hits them, and the mixup on an incoming character is only 50-50!"

Every Zero player out there complains about Morrigan, Vergil and Missiles. A lot of Zero players don't think he's the best in the game.

Magneto players complain about everything.... they think they play the most honest character in the game and they have to work the hardest.

Viper players complain about Magneto, Zero, Morrigan and even Firebrand if they play that character enough.

Vergil players complain about Zero, Morrigan, Magneto, Wolverine, Spencer and Phoenix. Most Vergil players think the character is non viable out of anchor position!

Phoenix players complain about Vergil, Strider, Zero and Morrigan plus any character with anti Phoenix tech.

Strider players complain about the same shit as Phoenix players... they especially hate Vergil.

Doom players complain about every hard zoning character in the game.

Nova players complain about Wolverine, Zero, Spencer and Morrigan.

Dorm players think their character is full of weaknesses and like a 3rd of the cast own him free. About the only thing Dorm players don't complain about is other Missiles team because they get to kill Doom for free.

Wolverine players complain about armored/Lariat characters, Zero, Morrigan, hell even Nova he has his shield going.

Spencer players complain about Zero, Wolverine, Magneto, Morrigan, Viper.... any character who is too safe to Bionic Arm. Hell they complain about Joe a lot.

Skankin is a wolf player, right? I was thinking that you lost to the Zabel player. He was doing some good work a couple of weeks ago.

Can't wait to see the latest VSav footage.

Edit: Damn, that is a lot of footage.
FGW: If You Were Real?
I've been secretly hoping for some version of this in next week's title since I saw that little spat.

This is all so crazy. The bit about Dormington reminds me of you and Karsticles butting heads over Dormammu buffs lol.

I'm very happy for Bum, his tourney last night had good numbers, like 60'ish players attending.
What I don't understand is, why neither SRK and EH posted something about the tourney? It was like a big local, had more attendants than NLBC in the past weeks

Weekend tournaments actually pull numbers? What a surprise! (not.) Weeklies are miserable if you have a 9-5

But FChamp and Alioune are the only Magneto players. FChamp complains about everything anyways and Alioune is French so it's a cultural thing. I don't think it's the character.
