I really don't know but i have pretty darn good tv and full-hd gaming is pretty bad.Doesn't the TV do its own upscaling or is it different if a PC is hooked up. I can't remember correctly but I think on my old AMD GPU I was able to choose if I want my display or GPU to upscale. Some TVs do it better than others of course. Sony TVs are usually praised for quality upscaling.
See this is where I disagree, I do find a High fidelity 1080p picture still looks fantastic.I don't know if you are serious with this comment but 4K offers nothing apart from HDR support in most cases. I have a Samsung ks8000 a good 4K TV but it's nonsense that the 4K aspect is even noticeable compared to a nice Full HD set.
I've been wondering... To this very day, all my TVs are still 1080p, and I'm very happy with them, so I'm not planning an upgrade anytime soon. Anyone here have heard how the PS5 will behave with the "old" full HD format? Is it going to upscale things like the pro? The upscale is automatic or the user have some control over settings on that regard? Is there some info on the matter?
Edit: I'm an idiot. I mean downscale, or supersample.
What an asshole way to say nothing. I have a 1080p TV that features 2 component, 3 hdmi, 2 AV hookups, and S-Video. Why the fuck would someone like me want to throw away a fantastic TV for my retro gaming systems just for a 4K TV that, at best, has like 1 component and 3 HDMI ports? What am i supposed to do with all my old consoles? I don't really have the room for another TV.One, you're an idiot. You're happy with 1080p because you're ignorant of what 4K offers. Do yourself a favor and upgrade one of your TV's asap. 4K is cheap nowadays.
Two, it'll probably offer the same supersampling features of the PS4 pro.
Yeah, me too. Maybe there's something in NDA stopping reviewers to talk bout it. Maybe the function doesn't exist or isn't ready yet.Kind of surprised no one has tested PS5 on a 1080p display yet.

Works fine on a 1080
Brad from Giant Bomb is playing on a 1080p tv. He has yet to attempt to upgrade on both monitor and TV front. He mentioned it looking very nice, unsure of how much he has used some of the performance modes however.Kind of surprised no one has tested PS5 on a 1080p display yet.
They already looked basically perfect on Pro. First party games at 60fps on a 60hz top gamma plasma though..Honestly I think one of the high end plasma sets could make games look pretty good on PS5/Series X.
What if I want to play on monitor thoughJesus, you can buy a 4K tv now with basic features for the price of a monthly cable and internet bill.
It’s not. It depends on screen size and viewing distance. A 1080p 32” each display at an arm an half viewing distance in a desk would be indistinguishable from a 4K one while playing a game or watching a movie. With the power the PS5 is packing - he is absolutely an idiot if he sticks with 1080p this generation. The difference between that and 4K is literally night and day.
if u can say that, then i can say "One, you're an asshole."One, you're an idiot.
Lol. My Panasonic plasma still has far superior motion to most tvs out now. I'd take the motion over 4k because boxing looks lile shit on lcd/led or whatever they're calling it now. One, you're an idiot. You're happy with 1080p because you're ignorant of what 4K offers. 4K is not supported in the video output options. I don't think it's supersampling. It doesn't look like it, but it does look nice. Playing Demon's Souls on performance mode moves and feels nice. Looks pretty good. Playing on cinematic mode is nauseating. It looks nice if you're standing still but moves horrible. I'm not sure why that is, but it's definitely noticeable.I'm sure it will. The question is whether 1080p will be using supersampling or some other form of expensive AA, or will the PS5 downsample 4K to 1080p.
Not true. It’s not. It depends on screen size and viewing distance. A 1080p 32” each display at an arm an half viewing distance in a desk would be indistinguishable from a 4K one while playing a game or watching a movie.

And that is why I have two plasmas. One in the living room which is the VT30 and one in the bedroom which is a UT50. Panasonic really did create amazing televisions. My friends hate their televisions after watching sports on mine. They look so real and the motion is so good no ghosting and no "sweet" spots for viewing as the entire thing is a sweet spot.I've been messing around with oled, played a little of horizon on pc, so 60fps. You can use the motion settings to make panning pretty smooth so I was like this isn't bad.
Then I switched to my plasma and it was so smooth without any motion settings enabled.
Plasma really was the best.
True enough if you are not sticking your face into the screen using a magnifying glass. And you know it.Not true.
I love how some people believe everyone lives in their bubble. One, you're an idiot. You're happy with 1080p because you're ignorant of what 4K offers. Do yourself a favor and upgrade one of your TV's asap. 4K is cheap nowadays.

Until they add real 1440p support the 1080p TV wins. Can someone help me out here. My buddy has a stellar LG 32" 1440p monitor and a superb 1080p tv. He's confused on which display to use for his PS5. How does this supersampling work and which out of the two displays would providebetter quality images?
See this is where I disagree, I do find a High fidelity 1080p picture still looks fantastic.
But I don't see HDR as this big thing people make it out to be.
A high quality 4k image is better then an average 4k image with HDR, obviously having both is fantastic.
Same applies for 1080p Vs 4k
A pixel perfect 1080p picture always looks better then a poor 4k one
Either way it depends on the source.

Downsampling can almost produce bullshot quality like IQ. Bioshock Infinite 5120x2160 -> 2560x1080
I think if I changed in game AA (FXAA?) to SMAA it would clean all remaining edges. Still looks fucking amazing in motion.
If you are happy with your 1080p tv keep it. 4k is overrated as fuck. I play downsampled games all the time and it's not worth it if you are at a living room distance.
Use some lube. It’s too big .. won’t fit.
Sorry had to...
I don't think you're quite right. Aliasing depends on the supersampling method, the internal render resolution and AA used. It could be even worse on a 4k set, depending on the factors listed above. And no, the PS4 wasn't "30hz", framerate was a per game thing.amazing... except for the aliasing artifacts, that “disappear” with 4K. in any case, 4K has 4x pixel than 1080p...
well, 4K is also like a boat... lol... (“a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into”) that was me back in the day with GTAV 4K on PC, when it was released in 4K for PC... 4K monitor, sli gtx680, new processor, new pc... etc.... (now it is “cheap” to get 4K on PC at 30Hz... lol, never ends i want 60hz all eye candy. so will be getting a 6800xt... and a ps5 of course, before june2021, for ps5 GTAV)
but i digress...
BUT, remember the PS4 was 30HZ!. (I HOPE) all games for the ps5 will be 60Hz... 60 hz is the MUST have feature for the ps5.
so IMO more important to have the pS5 than a 4K tv... if you have to choose.

Thanks for the tip. Will buy it and wait a little longer to upgrade my tv that doesn't need to be upgraded, hahaha.Hey OP I was just watching a PS5 AMA/livestream and it looks like it still has downsampling. So your 1080p TV will look better than a regular 1080p output. It'll still look great, go for it and upgrade if and when possible.
