Dude, you do realize that the majority of third party games do better on DS then PSP, it's just Nintendo titles sell damn well.

Only recently have there been great third party games on the DS, games like Naruto and SD Gundam have had a big impact on the sales chart, while all the new third party games on the PSP have been floundering.

Hell, the only titles to have done well on the PSP were the luanch titles, almost everythign else besides Tales of Eternia(which has sold less than Naruto 3 DS) could be considered a success.

Third parties am cry on PSP

But is there really any very good 3rd party game for the DS? You need to put out a few first if you them to sell

well 3rd parties should know who the fanbase reacts to games.

You do not release shit on a Nintendo console.

You do not release a Multiplatform games on a Nintendo console, only exclusives

two basic rules. Stick with that and you will make a killing on a Nintendo console based of word of mouth alone

Well, technically Pokemon Dash was published by the Pokemon Company. :p

Still, there's several 3rd party games on the cusp of 100k (Kimishine, Puyo Fever, Pac-Pix) and other 3rd party games have exceeded expectations (Mr Driller, Tendo Dokuta, Meteos). The reason we don't see many top selling 3rd party games is mainly because we haven't seen any top tier 3rd party franchises hit DS yet, excepting Naruto obviously. With Goemon, Yu-Gi-OH!, Rockman.EXE, Gyakuten Saiban, Naruto RPG, PowerPro and Slime Morimori all hitting this summer though, that's about to change...

Considering Nintendo's stance towards 3rd parties since 1996, I think they'd classify this as irrelevant news, actually.

Sure, but then you're comparing million selling brands like Shin Sangoku Musou and Tales to stuff like Kimishine and Tendo Dokuta. The same brands released on both platforms though have sold significantly more on DS... again, it's simply an issue of popular brands rather than specific 3rd party market potential.

Not to mention the best selling PSP game is 1st party (Minna Portable).

Here is a third party list of sales on the DS as of May 9th in Japan

http://www.dsgaming.co.uk/html/modules/news/article.php?storyid=541

1.) Pokémon Dash (Pokémon, 323,741)
2.) Kimi no tame nara Shineru (Sega, 97,629)

Add in the new sales of Naruto, SD Gundam, third party companies are making more money off the DS right now then the PSP, especially considering the current sales of PSP software.

Considering PSP has about half the fanbase, yet 3rd parties still sell better is telling you something.

That DS is getting a lot of shit 3rd party games and no real killer-app has been released yet while PSP is getting popular shit like Dynasty Warriors?

It tells me PSP is getting brands like Shin Sangoku Musou, Ridge Racer, Metal Gear Solid and Tales while DS is making due with mostly new properties and puzzle games. It also tells me the same game can expect to sell double on DS what it would on PSP (as evidenced by Puyo Fever). Thankfully now, DS seems to be getting some 3rd party brands with some pull (Naruto, SD Gundam, etc) and even early sales reflect a turn around for 3rd parties on the machine. They get what they put in basically and banking on PSP so early hasn't yeiled much in terms of long term success.

Yes it's telling me that PSP has more 3rd party games that are established franchises.

also SONY doesn't have that big a 1st party lineup. Even on PS2, the 1st party stuff is hit and miss. Killzone 1 was a huge miss. As was getaway (how it got a sequel greenlighted is beyond me, guess it sold okay). Sony isn't a nintendo, that's for sure.

I think the more games factor is just a tad less important than quality (for gamers) and sales (dev.).

Actually, Sony's doing much better on PSP than they ever did on PS1 or PS2 proportionately. They have the best selling game in Mingol Portable (it's over 300k iirc) and they have a ton of decent selling filler games (Saru Getchu P, Dokodemo Issho, PoPoLoCrois Monogatari, Piposaru Academia) all of which are now over 100k iirc. Plus Tenchi no Mon looks to be the best PSP game for the summer... PSP is much more first party loaded than other PlayStations sales wise. It's more like a Famicom or Game Boy than a PlayStation really.

I know this is significantly out of date now, but considering people are making the DS/PSP comparisons I'll recall this old, pre-Nintendogs/Naruto/Brain Training chart:

20050507pspdssoftwarea.gif

Gray is DS first party, pink is DS third party. Black is PSP first party, blue is PSP third party.

The DS is going to get much better 3rd Party support during the summer. With Mega Man Battle Network, Naruto RPG 2, Slime Mori Mori 2, and Castlevania.

All of those with the exception of Castlevania should all sell way over 100K.

I think the push to 3D might spur some sales plus it's the first DS YGO.... YGO still sells well enough on GBA too, here's some examples....

-Yu-Gi-OH! Duel Monsters 5 (410,534) 2001
-Yu-Gi-OH! Duel Monsters 6 (264,056) 2002
-Yu-Gi-OH! Sacred Card (238,112) 2003
-Yu-Gi-OH! Dungeon Dice Monsters (145,356) 2001

Dont forget the most important: It uses the actual rules, none of that spinoff crap like the Sacred Card

Of course a certain percentage will be directly related to the usefulness of the promo cards

Well from that chart I think it was just 3rd parties. I would say that Famicon Wars would at least sell 50k, and of course Jump Super Stars would be on there. I don't think many other Nintendo games are coming out. Well not any good selling ones.

Deku said:
Well I just read this thread + the charts and sales figures, this is not true at all. It just happens Nintendo software has sold even better.

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that a few 3rd Party games are over 90K like Pac-Pix, Harvest Moon, and Egg Monster Heroes. I also heard that Meteos sold over 50K. They really aren't selling all that badly.

Same for DS and PSP, although I tried to get older numbers when I couldn't get the numbers up-to-date through June 26/05. These particular titles all sold less than 65,000 units (and some of them significantly less) for the first half of 2005, so the older numbers should still be pretty close to their current numbers. DS won't be a wasteland for 3rd parties much longer. Nintendo did a great job (in Japan) at keeping the DS afloat until the 3rd parties could come through with software. I think that by the end of the year, outside publishers are going to be very happy with the DS.

I'm sorry for the overwhelming amount of data in the previous post. I just wanted to throw all of the numbers out there for anyone who might be interested. I would have just started a new thread, but being a Junior Member, that isn't an option.

It's interesting to see that the Gamecube is still selling some decent software numbers considering how abysmal the hardware sales are for the Cube. Mario Party 6 is over 500,000, Resident Evil 4 is at about the same levels as Devil May Cry 3, even though the Cube has about 1/5 the userbase of the PS2, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is well over 200,000 units sold. It should get over 500,000 with North America and Europe thrown in. I'm even impressed that Fire Emblem is already at 150,000 considering that no one buys the Cube anymore.
