Same, I though Skyfall was pretty good, though it had its flaws. Spectre was not as bad as people make it out to be, but I think they definitely did not use Christoph Waltz to his maximum potential (or Ralph Fiennes as the new M, for that matter).

Yeh I didn’t hate it as much as others seemed to. But it was disappointing for sure. I thought Waltz could have been really good but they didn’t do that much with him.

If they hand the moniker over to this new character but the film still concentrates on Bond. I'm ok with that. But if the film centres on the new character I'll be annoyed.

I’m the opposite. I don’t care if they make a spin off in the Bond universe with a black female agent with a different number, but 007 and James Bond are synonymous. The symbology is everything.

I can deal with whoever being 007 but if anyone other than James Bond is "James Bond" I'll be pissed.
However why can't they use other 00 agents. Like seriously have a different 00 agent that's female. Have Idris Elba as another 00, he would be amazing. Why has it always got to be 007.

Also have to agree with many of the others that they could've chosen a better looking person.

What's next Julia Bourne, Jason's hidden sister that also lost her memory?
We already had a Bourne movie without Jason Bourne and it wasn't a big success. A lot of the people won't go to the cinema no matter if the iconic character is not present or is sidelined.

I guess this will amount to something like The Dark Knight Returns with the Robin tease at the end. From all that I've seen on the web, Richard Madden is being touted as the new Bond.

Of course. This leaks, everybody starts taking about not just a “black” bond, but a WOMAN?!!? Everybody loses their minds, everybody suffers heart attacks, Internet goes into melt down...

...but there is no such thing as bad news. This gets everybody talking.

Film comes out, “come in 007”, then 10 minutes later she’s dead. Rest of the film is about a retired 007 who ends up going back in the service. “The titles yours of you want it again you cock”.

Camera pans over his ugly monkey like face, hint of a smirk.

Roll credits.

Boom. Job done. Internet outrage increased ticket sales by 74 million percent, Phoenix Walker Bodge gets a new hat to cover her mole. All is well.

Didn't Nobody_Important Nobody_Important say Craig was backing this decision? Probably wants to go down as last true Bond. Smart man.

For context, Lashana Lynch is setting to the left of him. With that amount of stuttering, body language & choice of words you can see through what he says vs. what he's actually thinking.

Bond fans hit the roof when a blonde man got the role, they are never paying to see this. I wonder if this will be the biggest bomb of all the gender reversal bombs, of late? :messenger_grinning:

Edit: just say this;

A poll of, at time of posting, 3700 people and 90% say they have no interest in this movie... Is this the biggest "What were they thinking?" of all time?

My god! I didn’t have my glasses on when looking at the news thumbnail and I thought GAF had it wrong and that it was Chadwick Boseman.

Oops.😲 I have really bad vision.

Edit: Yep, getting old. Eye doctor says I need new prescription glasses or Lasik. I don’t trust lasik.:messenger_dizzy:

I remember there was talk of doing a bond spinoff with Halle Berry as "Jinx" (from Die Another Day)

Now she was a "stunning woman".

Michelle Yeoh around the 1997 movie too. They wanted a female spin-off for decades. I never imagined they have the balls to make her 007 though.

It's just a bait and switch to bring clicks, it won't play out like this in the actual movie.

I'm fine with Bond retiring and another person taking the 007 number, hopefully she'll be an interesting character foremost and not be an attempt at mimicking Bond. That's the great part about not having Bond be changed, but just switching out the agent.
Though this line " in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman " is cringe and gives me doubts as to whether she'll be a character or just cardboard to stick virtue signaling points to. If you switch things out, "in walks Craig who is white, beautiful and a man", it becomes obvious.

For fuck sake. If this is true you just killed the series.
I don't think she is replacing James Bond. She just got the 007 codename because Bond retired. Bond comes back from retirement because they need him and gets the codename back when the movie ends.

This is the logical outcome. But the woke intention is going to cost them dearly. Dearly enough to shelve the franchise for a while? Who knows.

We’ve had what, 50 years of bond? I’m fine with them trying different experiments on the formula to come up with some unique stories. The last few bonds have been.... uninspired.

Why would the sex of the main character have anything to do with story? There will be an evil mastermind. There will be some sexy henchmen. Bond will sleep with any/all of them and save the day. As far as the story goes you can freely change around the sex of any of those people and the plot is still the same.

Ugh, I dislike that. Don't introduce someone new to the agent number and drop it after a movie. A far more interesting thing would be Bond coming back to aid or as a mentor figure for the new 007 agent or as a contact. Or him becoming the new M. Definitely not just dropping him back in it after one movie.

Why would any part of any story matter, you can freely change anything around and the plot will be basically the same, same three act system, same shit different day. Our whole entertainment system is all about changing small variables in the same stories and representing them to the audience as something new.

Sometimes making a change like the sex of a character, or the location, or the time period can at least bring a new angle to a story to give it some life, or open new opportunities to change other variables.

Yes she is not James Bond, yes you can bet your ass on the fact that they will go forward with her after Craigs Bond retires in this next movie, as the new 007 character in all upcoming bond films after.

By them saying she just takes over the code name not the James character himself, they just trojan horse her in as the new face of the franchise.

The main problem with the Craig Bond films is that they turned the latter two into great big navel gazing exercises. I legitimately had to wonder when watching Spectre whether the writers has seen the Austin Powers films when it turned out that the big bad happened to have a personal grudge with Bond over stuff to do with his childhood and the weird retconning at the end which implied that he had been pulling a 'it was me Austin!' all along. Demented writing.

If so, the franchise will last for precisely one more movie.

I was never a Bond fan in my life (aside from liking the Goldeneye game).

But this is a fucking tragedy for the fans, a total disrespect for those who supported this brand/series/franchise over the years.

Sounds like they're gonna kill her character very early in the movie.

Fridge this character? No fucking way. She will be smarter and tougher than Bond, and will make the plot saving choice. Guaranteed!

They had the chance to embrace the "Bond as codename" mythology but then screwed it with Skyfall (and Spectre). Either they have to retcon that as personality conditioning (which would be interesting as well) or accept that James Bond is a specific person, not a cover identity.

finally we have POC to glorify the man who in the book that sourced his first hit film described his enemies as "Chigros" (a word used 6,000 times in the book) who "have the intelligence of the Chinese, but the vices of a black man so they are a very dangerous breed"

gonna lead to some weird discussions in 10 or so years once some kids want to go back and read the original books on their favorite black hero James Bond.

I don’t really care that it’s a female but I honestly don’t think directors these days are actually equipped to introduce strong female leads into major movies..most come of reeking of social justice conformity and do the cause no favors

The case in point would be terminator 2 ...you went on the journey with Sarah Conner from a locked up patient to a badass shotgun wielding terminator destroyer.....fast forward to today we know Sarah Conner is a tough female character...why does the first pr come out for the new terminator movie saying sexists beware.....we don’t need fucking signposts directing us to a good female lead...give us the actual development of the character make us believe they are worthy

James Cameron did that in less than 10 mins screentime with Linda Hamilton but now today we get hey guys these are all girls fighting terminators so if you don’t think they are badasses your a sexist pig

Where is this information?
That is just my speculation and I think it is likely. Bond and the new 007 work together to beat the bad guys. James Bond is still the main character of the movie. I don't think she will be 007 in the movie after this.

Man, the outrage culture here is tiring.

She's not James Bond. She's the employee that replaced him after he quit his job. Fairly certain the British government is allowed to hire black women now.

Daniel Craig is still Bond. Get a grip, folks.
