Star Fox opened lower than The Wonderful 101.

Yes, even considering it has two positions on the list. That the userbase is much bigger now. That it had much meatier marketing and it's part of an established Nintendo series.

I'm stunned.

EDIT: Damn, double post.

another miserable week

01./00. [PS4] One Piece: Burning Blood # <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.04.21} (¥7.600) - 35.496 / NEW
02./00. [PSV] One Piece: Burning Blood # <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.04.21} (¥6.800) - 32.682 / NEW
Expected at least a bit more of One Piece.

04./00. [PSV] Bullet Girls 2 <ACT> (D3Publisher) {2016.04.21} (¥6.800) - 17.224 / NEW
According to mao2. Even this doing quite a bit worse than the previous game.
No mercy for anyone this week.

05./00. [WIU] Star Fox Zero + Star Fox Guard Double Pack <Star Fox Zero \ Star Fox Guard> <STG> (Nintendo) {2016.04.21} (¥6.500) - 17.114 / NEW
08./00. [WIU] Star Fox Zero <STG> (Nintendo) {2016.04.21} (¥5.700) - 8.135 / NEW
Worse than even Command.... Poor Star Fox

06./02. [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 <RPG> (Square Enix) {2016.03.24} (¥5.250) - 15.940 / 557.575 (-35%)
not as big a drop as last week but still... the best it will do is probably selling it's first shipment

14./06. [WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥5.700) - 6.470 / 1.338.689 (-4%)
15./07. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.400) - 6.254 / 743.558 (-3%)
16./09. [WIU] Super Mario Maker # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.09.10} (¥5.700) - 5.873 / 851.969 (-2%)
the legs trio. Expect them to pass most of this weeks new releases next week.

PS4 | 20.589 | 20.257
3DS # | 18.261 | 19.657
PSV # | 12.678 | 12.337
Pretty stable for PS4 and Vita + small drop for 3DS. Nothing great of course
WIU | 5.968 | 6.091
Small Wii-U drop.
XB1 | 101
Just... Wonderful

PS4 always sell well during Q1, from April sales will drop

after 4 weeks in April : PS4 still #1

These two statements are not mutually exclusive, and the former most certainly did occur as hardware dropped by 5-10k per week. The second statement is more a moniker of the state of the market than anything else.

Animal Crossing has crossed 5 million units, will it be the last game in Japan on a dedicated console to reach that mark?

FY3/2016 (Apr.'15-Mar.'16)

Animal Crossing - 310.000 / 5.150.000
With this the 10 best selling games in Japan are all on Nintendo platforms, with 7 of them being Nintendo published games, and 5 of them being Pokémon games (all mainline titles but X/Y)

Also.

Pokémon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire: 3.18

On par with FireRed/LeafGreen.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS: 2.7m

Just 200k away from being the best selling fighting game ever.

Mario Maker also at 930k by the end of March.

So, I guess we can say goodbye to the Star Fox franchise. We are indeed in the darkest timeline.

Star Fox is going back in the Nintendo graveyard ;_;

man, even Command had a better opening. SFZ won't beat it. also, Command was big bomba considering it was on the original DS and came out when the handheld was most popular.

SF643D didn't sell too well, even considering it's just a remaster. no wonder the series was already in weak footing from that.

Should have hired the Splatoon Squid sisters to market it in Japan

However. To be serious for a moment. We know Star Fox never did well in Japan. Even if this is the worst yet.
Zero's fate will be decided mostly in the West. Not that I'm expecting decent sales here either...
Some of the decisions for this game.. like the controls and making it a SF 64 re-telling will only end up hurting it more here

The bigger surprise is Command doing so bad despite being a DS game.

No surprise. Command is a mediocre game, plagued by bad reviews and running away from the series known formula.

Star Fox to be ignored for another two gens CONFIRMED.

Not like anyone didn't see this coming a mile away.

This game is berely being advertised at all and is being overlooked by most of the market, even by Nintendo fanboys. Even Nintendo isn't giving a shit for Star Fox anymore, which is sad, as it was a top tier franchise in the SNES and N64 days.

And that's why remasters on NX will undoubtedly happen. Games like SF0 are dead in the water on Wii U. If NX can replicate the control scheme somehow, it could breath new life into the game.

That said, it's Star Fox. It was never going to sell like gangbusters. It was a Miyamoto pet project with a lesser budget. And the series never sold spectacularly in Japan in the first place.

It sucks, but whatever. Let's see the US numbers.

Just wanted to check some stuff, and, Nintendo million sellers on 3DS and Wii U, on Japan obviously, and including Pokémon.

Wii U
  1. Splatoon: 1.490.000
  2. Mario Kart 8: 1.300.000
  3. New Super Mario Bros. U*: 1.220.000
*As of March 2014

Nintendo 3DS
  1. Animal Crossing: New Leaf: 5.150.000
  2. Pokémon X/Y***: 4.460.000
  3. Pokémon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire: 3.180.000
  4. Mario Kart 7: 2.740.000
  5. Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS: 2.700.000
  6. New Super Mario Bros. 2: 2.580.000
  7. Tomodachi Life: 1.950.000
  8. Super Mario 3D Land**: 1.900.000
  9. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer: 1.480.000
  10. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon*: 1.120.000
*As of March 2014

***As of March 2015

Might've added wrong somewhere.

As far as officially released for 3DS there's only that, and the one of Capcom's Monster Hunter games, 4.1m for MH4 and 3.2m for Generations (I don't have data for 3 Ultimate nor 4 Ultimate). Capcom should give an update for MHG in a couple of weeks.

First it must overtake the additional 100k 2DS but even without them it won't pass it either way.

It has already passed it without the 100k 2DS according to the Famitsu numbers in the OP. Not that comparing early PS4 to late 3DS actually means anything. Same as whether a console is estimated to have sold one unit more less than a round number.

I was talking for the final YTD.

The week after Golden Week will be brutal. Maybe Uncharted will save it from cratering to the 11k it hit last year.
Bright side is that's bound to be the lowest of the lows.
Im gonna guess 15k for that week.

That would be by far the lowest week in gaming history in Japan. This year, especially.

Regarding Uncharted, the game was delayed, and even though pre-orders are not bad I don't think the game gonna save the bloodbath on that week.

Fair enough, I guess something was lost in translation. He asked when this year, not if this year. Even so, by Media Create we may well go this year without PS4 overtaking 3DS. Or maybe it will, it will end up close either way, but I still don't see what relevance that has.

Star Ocean already below 2k
Probably won't even reach 150k in Japan right?

So sad. Maybe if the game sold 500k worldwide a SO VI could happen (5-6 years from now), but I can't see the game selling over 350k in the west

The PS3 version comes out this week, but yeah, I think the game won't find it hard to sell better than that in the West.

No idea (3 months?) but it won't last all year.
Now talking about this. PS4 catching Wii U few weeks after FFXV launch seems quite possible. It seems Wii U has found its own baseline at 5k - 6k, due to the urgent shipments to retailers.

For the PS4 to catch WiiU's LTD within 2016, the PS4 needs to sell about 11k units more than the WiiU every week in average this year. Wasnt there some "no way" preditions early on that the PS4 wouldnt catch the WiiU LTD in 2016, or do i remember wrong? But it shows how more long term predictions can turn out to be different.

Yeah, if it's not going back to ~12k baseline, some weeks after FFXV might be a good guess for PS4 LTD going above WiiU LTD, agreed.

PS4 catching WiiU LTD is another one of the most pointless debates in these threads .... WiiU is discontinued, and might as well have been since close to release as far as third parties are concerned. PS4 Vs WiiU was never even a thing like it was in previous generations.

Nintendo having more million sellers than the rest of the industry combined

I know most core RPGs in Japan have poor legs due to the used market, but this is still amazing at how Fire Emblem's sales halted after a few weeks in Japan while in America it just kept going.

There were over 790K participants in the last Splatfest. Over half the number of copies sold. The retention rate is insane. At this point I'm liking Ryng's prediction of Splatoon hitting 2 million with digital.

Impeccably good word of mouth, and Fire Emblem's more novel nature in NA greatly helped Awakening to continue selling.

Burning Bomb and Zero Sales. PSO2 PS4 and Terraria 3DS did pretty awful too.

Hardware seems steady at least. Japan really needs a new handheld launch.

PSO2 is a free to play game though. I think it did pretty well considering many players already had it on Vita since 2013. It's nice that even the PS Vita rerelease charted.

Game deserves each sale, it is incredible!

This was an all around low week, damn, not even One Piece is selling well in Japan.

At least Star Fox is going to sell to its niche on the US, but I'll be surprised if its able to even reach half a million LTD. My copy is in the mail, still excited to play it.
