Nirolak, do you know why japan is so transparent with sales numbers and not NPD or europe, we hardly ever get numbers for npd.
I don't know about the unique hook but regarding its support I think you should look again at the best third parties sellers in the dedicated gaming market. The next handheld would need a unique hook and support akin to the PS4 to even hit 3DS numbers at this rate.
Thanks.
This looks like a pretty good opening for Japan.
I am surprised to see Heroes doing as much on Vita considering the first game wasn't even released on it. I am sure it would have easily surpassed the PS4 version if the original was released on Vita along with the sequel.
That's a pretty nice top 10 imo.
Follows the usual trends for the sequels, Overwatch did alright for what it is (an adult-oriented western FPS), has some slight hardware impact, decent legs for some games...
Why is everybody so hopeful about the next handheld of Nintendo. That market has been hit harder this last gen then the home console market, it went from 50m+ (PSP/ DS) to 25m (PSV/ 3DS). Sony probably won't even release a new one and there is no indication whatsoever that Nintendo's next handheld can stop the bleeding, let alone compensate for Sony's exit. The 3DS tanking (especially software) is one of the under reported stories this last gen on this board, the WiiU failure overshadowed it i guess.
It's too bad that DQHII couldn't avoid the drop off people clearly expect from these games now. It looks like a rather different game and a vast improvement over the first but I guess at the end of the day the combat is still Musou. Hopefully since impressions are good, unlike Joker 3, it has better legs with the cross platform multiplayer support.
Numbers are tracked by three competing companies in Japan and one in other markets.Nirolak, do you know why japan is so transparent with sales numbers and not NPD or europe, we hardly ever get numbers for npd.
exactly one year ago, this was the release of Slatoon.
One year after released, still charting with a +4% weekly increase.
Why does Guilty Gear sell like shit in Japan?
Seems like a really big drop to me370000 vs 590000 I think it's not a big drop, still good number for cash grab cheap ass musou.

Oh, so Joker 3 was bad? I got yelled at a lot for implying it looked low effort back in the day.

It was pretty suspect when they refused to show it but the actual game looked pretty good to me. I'd be interested in hearing what exactly is wrong with it.
There's way too much palette swapping. Most liked the DQM2 remake better.I still am pissed to this day that they turned the awesome potential of Joker 3 into a fucking palette swap game... I dont even know how the hell they managed to do that considering their previous titles and remakes were not like that at all.
What a waste of a big IP
The 3DS tanking (especially software) is one of the under reported stories this last gen on this board, the WiiU failure overshadowed it i guess.
It needs the same breadth of support. It already has the biggest hitters. It also needs publishers openly talking it up like they have with the PS4.
The big issue has already been brought up:
There's way too much palette swapping. Most liked the DQM2 remake better.
Even if the Vita isn't dying as fast as Sony may want it to, its still a fading platform. With its inevitable slide from relevance for software (similar to that of the PS3), there's really little choice left as I don't see the PS4 being tenable solo. So what about a system with PS4/Handheld support on top of the massive IP that Nintendo controls.
That gives breadth and impact.
I imagine they're losing a fair amount of the fans of the IP who play the games and either don't like them, or decided they had enough.
Like how much though? How many monsters are there?
How much software do you think 3DS has sold since it's tanking harder than hardware?
Don't know about Japan exactly, but latest WW software numbers put it around 274m (as of march 31th the PS4 is only 4m behind). The DS in comparison did 920m+ over it's lifetime. So what word should i use to decribe the 3DS software performance?
You talked for Japan, now you turn WW.

You don't have to be a mathematical genius to see the implication of those WW numbers on Japanese numbers, even if the performance in Japan is better then other regions.
But you are the numbers dude here right? So if you can please do share the yearly total software numbers during the DS and 3DS lifecycle. i would be really surprised if there wasn't an extreme drop off over the years.
Bad month damn!
Your squidreign is over!

So now 3DS or general Japanese video game market trend is supposed to follow western?
You were the one claiming 3DS is tanking, If you don't know the numbers better say underperforming comparing to DS, since you made bombs almost eveything released in Japan.
And, who knows, maybe a consolidation of the portable market will help the next one?
I really don't like how Square Enix is managing Dragon Quest now.
Each game used to be a big event for the japanese market, it was a premium brand through and through, like what Final Fantasy in the PS2/ in the pre XIII-era was.
Now there is another game releasing every two months. This is unsustainable.
I read that there are at least 3 variants for pretty much every monster, but a few have more. Not sure what the unique monster count is but it's definitely lower than DQM2. They advertised there are over 500 monsters in the game total.
I would like to know as well.So what is the total DS vs 3DS software sales in Japan so far?
Why does Guilty Gear sell like shit in Japan?

Thanks. Pretty significant drop in number of games released, also regarding Nintendo published games. Wonder how this will change (if changed) with the upcoming system.*list*
Part of the decline, and is something Queso has hit up on in the NPD, is that there is simply less goods being sold at any given time. There has been a factor of three drop in the DS to 3DS software available, and this is also on part tied to what Oregano was noting in that software breadth has faltered on the platform.
This also highlights another of his points in that a handheld with a revitalized breadth of software could do quite well for/in the market. It'll be a curiosity to see if software development will shift to potentially favor a new handheld or support it, or if we'll continue trying to "save consoles" in Japan.
Also if I made any mistakes, feel free to point them out.
More like Trinity: Souls of Zill'Ol.Was the original DQH anything like Hyrule Warriors? Been thinking about picking it up.
Just stopping by for my weekly dose of depression.

For 1,845 (132 Nintendo) titles released in its lifetime, the DS sold:
21,358 ten thousands (or 213.6 million) units of software in Japan.
At peak, it sold 50 million units of software in a year.
LTD is 33 million units of hardware.
For 534 (62 Nintendo) titles released in its lifetime, the 3DS has sold in as of so far:
10,560 ten thousands (or 105.6 million) units of software in Japan*.
At peak, it sold 25 million units of software in a year.
LTD is 21.2 million units of hardware.
*The 3DS/WiiU sales figures, for whatever reason, do not seem to report digital sales of non-packaged goods as far as I can tell from their disclaimer at the bottom of the sales pages. They only count and report on packaged card (or digital of card) software.

If ninty is able to consolidate both vita and 3DS market, i can see that number rising and considering that we don't have any digital number, comparing the number directly is not entirely accurate. As this time, eshop had their own exclusive title.
