Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2013 (Jun 10 - Jun 16)

I'm guessing that Square Enix views the 3DS as being a Japan thing. Dragon Quest is good there, maybe some stuff that they don't expect to have a big impact abroad. The Final Fantasys and other big names can go to iOS or console.

Luigi hits digital next week, right? I wonder if that will have any effect on sales. The retail release and Pikmin comes in 3 weeks so Wii U might be safe from hitting below 5k in the charts.

This was Nintendo DS in beast mode (constantly selling every week over 100.000 units during a period of almost 2 years).

Hmm shit you're right, I'm mistaking it for DKC lol. Well it sold 780k in Japan, pretty good sales.

DKC sold ~3m in Japan alone :O

And yeah, I think SM did around that ballpark. The Metroid series has certainly lost its way in Japan (though Prime 1 iirc is still the best selling worldwide).

Why wouldn't FF do well on the 3DS if DQ does well? FF remakes are certain cashcows on the 3DS at the very least.

DKC2 sold 2M IIRC then DKC3 was the one that did 1M.

The retail release and Pikmin comes in 3 weeks so Wii U might be safe from hitting below 5k in the charts.

We'll see, I wouldn't put it beyond going below 5K yet. For that week, maybe 15K~20K. NSLU's retail release, the Nintendo Land controller bundle, and the White Deluxe model hit the same day, too, but it's a Sunday release, meaning only 1 day of sales will be counted, iirc.

I can't imagine NSLU having any impact on hardware at all. It's a nice expansion pack, but honestly, nobody is buying a system for DLC. Whoever is interested in it already owns the system and NSMBU, I doubt that anyone who passed on that one would be going crazy for NSLU.

The digital and retail copies will certainly sell well to the current install base. Just not moving any systems.

Wii U already hit 4k last week in Famitsu, by the way.

Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't. But Final Fantasy is one of Square Enix's international franchises. I suspect that they aren't considering the 3DS as a viable platform for them.
The FF remakes sold well in the west didn't they? I'm sure they're more profitable than IOS releases.

Is Nintendo advertising NSLU on Japan at all? Or is it going under the radar as it is in the rest of the world?

11./10. [WII] Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.11.29} (¥5.040) - 4.634 / 497.427 (+8%)

Simply incredible :\

Should hit half a million next week. The 3DS instalment should do similar the week after.

But strangely enough, they're considering the Vita.

Yeah, with these two, the Taiko games have gained traction again. I wonder if we'll see a WiiU Taiko?

Taiko Wii U is definitely gonna happen, maybe even this holiday. Another Taiko for Wii would have been more likely but then the one thats out is basically a greatest hits already, the last one for the platform.

Am I reading that right? The Vita has sold more in its lifetime than the Wii U in Japan?

Crazy how bad Nintendo has bungled their main console in all regions when a Sony handheld is outselling it.

How many DLC releases have commercials?

Not many, but considering this is almost a entire new game and it is even getting a retail release and it also features a well known character whose last game is selling really well worldwide, I don't see why not. Specially considering Wii U's situation right now.

You realise the Vita has been out for twice as long?

Make that 3 times as long. 1 and half years vs 6 months.

I really doubt it.It would make more sense to make another 3DS one this year and keep a wait and see approach for 2014's game.

Well, it also outsold the Wii U YTD. More significantly, Vita is a handheld and Wii U is a console. The standards for success in Japan are different.

Not that it's particularly meaningful to discuss which of these two platforms failed harder.

Yeah, this one is the last one for the Wii. I'm not sure about this holiday...possibly but I think a new 3DS one is more likely, then a WiiU game will follow shortly after. Though I believe a Taiko Vita is also being worked on, so I dunno tbh.

But PSP has outsold every Nintendo console in Japan...

If the Vita is considered viable for Final Fantasy I don't know how you could say the 3DS isn't.

Are you doubting a Taiko game will sell on the Wii U? There's no reason why they can't release one for 3DS and one for the Wii U. They done that last year for Wii/3DS.

Well yeah Japan is handheld land, handhelds selling more isn't a surprise..

Vita is considered viable for FF because of PS3 (and it will be because of PS4)
Are you saying Vita will get a port of all the Playstation console FFs? I don't think FFX-FFX-2 on Vita will sell as much as you think, especially since they're gonna be sold seperately on the Vita as opposed to the bundled PS3 version.

Maybe I missed something. Are there any exclusive Final Fantasy titles coming to the Vita?
Even if Square Enix doesn't see the 3DS as suitable for their international sellers, they certainly see it as suitable for exclusives. Specifically, those geared towards the domestic market.

Entire top 5 is 3DS... damn.

3DS dead my ass. :3

Can't wait for Wii U to rebound so I can say the same thing. :) Hopefully Japanese 3rd parties are working on game, guess they'll be revealed in Nintendo Directs or at Tokyo Game Show.

Because the Wii U isn't hacked I won't be able to import Japanese games anymore like Taiko :(

I bought a Japanese 3DS back in 2011, but I just don't see myself buying a Japanese Wii U.

Damn look at DKC, 100k already, Luigi should be at a million soon enough :)

I am not doubting it.I am sure of it.Taiko needs the install base. How much do you think a Taiko game could sell on the WiiU this holiday season? You can't have Taiko's regular legs without people buying the console.

You're forgetting Nintendo is gonna release a few games at the end of this year...

Vita seems to be stabilizing around the 10K mark, nothing spectacular but higher than I thought.

WiiU... is a uhh... yeah. They basically completely pissed away their 1 year head start, by the look of things so far.

I'm expecting a strong attack to be timed with the launch of the new consoles like they did with the 3DS, some big releases and a substantial price cut.

I'm saying that PS3 and 4 support will help Vita, especially for some "Sony" franchise for the Japanese market, as FF.

Other than the 3DS, the gaming market in Japan is practically irrelevant and I expect it to be like that for the rest of the year if the past 4 months is any indication. You'd think that their would be at least two competing products in the market but nope 3DS domination.

The mere fact that your justifying why a Sony handheld is outselling a Nintendo console (especially after the Wii) is horrible. Would anyone have ever expected this?

No, I am not.I am just not expecting the miracle it would take to turn the wiiU situation with the current line-up.A miracle well-needed for Taiko to do some decent for it's name numbers.

Another argument would have been that there is no reason for Bamco to risk anything. They release their 2013 Taiko on 3DS (which I think we all agree will be pretty damn huge) and if good things happen to the WiiU summer 2014 will be Taiko WiiU's time.
