Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2016 (Feb 22 - Feb 28)

As it's been pointed out many times Sony is now selling it as a kids product.

Well, that was weird.

Interesting how the advertising has changed over the years though. In 2013-14 it was the hunting games campaign; late last year it was a weird mis-mash of stuff until they switched to kid-focused advertising with Minecraft.

I guess they're staying with that, but it's not like there's any other younger-focused games on the horizon now Minecraft and DQB are out of the way.

Because the bundles are limited (not just quantities, but also the stores they're sold at). As Chris and hiska-kun explained in the previous thread, Media Create and Famitsu most likely don't have a big enough sample to be able to make accurate estimate.

In other words, we will have to wait for April, and Nintendo's financials for FY 2015-16 to get shipment data.

Thanks. Sucks for the prediction league, then.

[PS4] Life Is Strange <ADV> (Square Enix) (¥4.444)

PS3 chugging along.

When was the last time Sony did a price drop on the PS3? I'm still amazed its so expensive here in the UK, thought Sony would have dropped the price hard when PS4 came out and sparked more sales worldwide.

They've beaten their own forecast in Japan. We're not gonna have the same discussion for 10th time, those who care for the reason Wii U is in short supply for so long check past threads, I don't care if there are excuses or not.

Didn't a Doraemon 3DS game release today?

Wonder how Shallie Plus will do. 11k is the low bar for this series on Vita iirc (Ayesha Plus, though it somehow 'legged' it out to 31k eventually)

Yes, it did. For your convenience here it is.

[3DS] Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjou <ACT> (FuRyu) (¥4.980)

--------

Regarding Shallie Plus, hope it does 15k or something but if not will depend on the first day sellthrough. Also, there is stock in Sofmap Akiba for the Pokémon download cards. No problems so far.

I think the scan ban only makes it harder to talk about breaking news on up and coming Japanese games, but that's hardly the main problem. I've just noticed that there's less and less interest in general on the internet at large for more obscure Japanese games. Even if we're not talking about new games, hardly anyone wants to have discussions about old games or old developers other than the same old stuff people are already familiar with in popular media. We 've tried to reignite interest in stuff like that a few times, but it's just hard because putting effort into drawing people's attention to cool stuff doesn't pay off when the threads get like 20 replies. :(
As someone who would be interested in these type of games but never posts in said threads I'll explain my position. If you check my post history I'm rarely involved in topics that have limited info or are high in speculation. I typically only post when there's enough tangible info combined with knowledge that I'll actually be able to play this game in English when it gets localised for the west, a few exceptions not withstanding. Also I rarely post in topics when games are far away. So when there's a reveal in Famitsu or another Japanese magazine the knowledge I'd still be looking at a year or more for a potential local version, I generally them avoid so as to not get interested and then only for my hopes to lead nowhere.

For example when the Kiseki series is mentioned in Japan I won't do anything since I'm not sure if and when they'll come over. However once it has a release date and comes out where I can buy it I'll be active like I am in the Cold Steel OT. I've largely ignored Persona 5 since it's announcement since even back in 2013/2014 I had high doubts I'd be able to buy the game in Europe anytime soon, and still do. As a counter Star Ocean 5 was practically revealed in the West and I've been involved in most of those threads.

It's hard to muster interest and effort to read threads and post in them about games that may be years away if they come out at all. There's a reason you won't/haven't really seen me in FFXV and Last Guardian topics!

What are the odds that Pokken is the only Wii U game released this year that outsells Mario Tennis (not counting Minecraft since that released digitally last year)? We have low expectations for TP HD and Star Fox, a hypothetical cross-gen Zelda U might crush Zelda U's sales, nothing is known about some imaginary Paper Mario, and that's about it.

Paper Mario should be able to outsell it.

Still sure about Paper Mario?

When's Kirby coming out in Japan? Should be nice for the 3DS, even if it sells a couple hundred K less.

Etrian Odyssey V entered the chart in first position. Pre-orders were very strong and Momotaro is still selling. Sofmap confirms StarFox Rei pre-orders open today.

That's not really what they did >.>

Yeah, I know it was very limited. However, it's a bad move if we consider they really want to sell those 2DS eventually. Maybe it's not really important, though.

EOV will outsell SMTIVF. If 13 Sentinels makes it out this year, it might outsell SMTIVF too. SMTIVF barely outsold the Odin Sphere remake. Persona 5 might sell as much as all of these games combined. Pretty good year for Atlus!

Well, Atlus should learn how to title their SmT title better next time then lol.

Honestly don't think the SNES thing is meant to be much of a selling point, maybe if it had been cross-buy or some such it would have been a meaningful upgrade or side-option for some but its more or less just a bone to N3DS owners... who don't own a WiiU.

2DS itself is a limited item, and the SNES thing is of a limited appeal. A lot of limited.

SNES games on New 3DS with 2DS recently released to the masses. What a good move Nintendo!

Actually the usual retail channel guy just complained about it. He said this is because currently 2DS is attracting old timers by nostalgia rather than gamers.

They've basically just been selling launch units repackaged and repurposed and finally ran out of those.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is that if Nintendo is telling their investors they're going to sell 10 Wii Us but they only have 5 left in the warehouse, wouldn't they want to make 5 more? And plan that out ahead of time?

The Wii U situation is so weird. Do we actually have an official word from Nintendo in what going on?

I thought I read on here that one of their suppliers basically had their manufacturing capacity collapse. Nintendo isn't their only client, and thus a production bottleneck.

I'm curious to see Raiden V sales...
I'm curious to know if people have heard about the gamebreaking bug the game shipped with that makes it impossible to complete any playthrough.
