Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2016 (Feb 22 - Feb 28)

I've never imagined a Street Fighter game can bomb this badly.

Maybe Capcom shouldn't have released it with only half the content.
Buying games in an incomplete state sends the wrong signal, so this is a good thing. I hope the lesson is learned.

SFV's problem isn't only that to be honest, or it would have better FW numbers. Missing content is usually something having an impact on the other weeks.
It's just that SF's brand isn't powerful as it was in the past, and it doesn't help that SFV doesn't exist in arcades.

This week comment :

PS4
Kamen Rider debuted on PS4 but seems like not many people realized; AoT second week was very solid, totally the opposite for Street Fighter V…
Project Setsuna dropped by 80% from last week, very usual for the genre, while the God Eater Off Shot project saw the Vol.5 selling less than the previous one.

3DS
Mario & Sonic 2016 exactly on pair as 2012 edition (25k now 26k back then), SMTIVF dropped but at least tie-ratio is now below 80%, Megaman Legacy Collection did really well considering how many times Capcom has already sold those games ( :D ) and Monster Strike is finally ready to pass DQM:Terry no Wonderland.

PSV
5 new entries this week, Kamen Rider make a debut on Vita but it's far for being a success, then some adventure games as usual, Sprite makes its debut on handhelds with the PC port Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm and almost 10k can be considered good. As seen on other platforms, AoT had a good second week and Minecraft finally passed 600k and now aims to the longest seller title on Sony platforms (MHP2nd best reprint charted for 58 weeks).
Kan Colle Kai was the 7th best debut but unlikely it will even reach the top 20...

Wii U
Only 2 Wii U titles this week into the chart, Splatoon consolidates the top spot while Mario Tennis grabbed 2 positions and entered the top 20.

PS3
Kamen Rider Battrider War Genesis underperformed considering it sold less than half of the previous entry; TV Anime Idolm@aster Vol.9 debuts for the first time since vol.1 with a <10k result.
Attack on Titan is still in line with other platform results while Dragon Quest Builders is approaching to reach the 100k milestone.

PS3 : Kamen Rider: Battride War ( Bandai Namco ) { 2013-05-23 } - 118,157 / 174,789

PS3 : Kamen Rider: Battride War II ( Bandai Namco ) { 2014-06-26 } - 59,777 / 81,893
WIU : Kamen Rider: Battride War II ( Bandai Namco ) { 2014-06-26 } - 6,827 / 6,827
Total: 66,604 / 88,720

PS4 : Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.02.25} - 29,366 / NEW
PSV : Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.02.25} - 22,760 / NEW
PS3: Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.02.25} - 20,592 / NEW
Total: 72,718 / NEW

These are Musou clones. Bandai Namco should be thrilled it grew entry-over-entry lol.

I think the Vita version did pretty okay, all things considered. Media Create has it at a 93% sell through and it was the only platform that didn't get the Sound Edition. It did far better than the side platform for BW2.

Bic Camera: Wii U Hardware Emergency Shipment (緊急入荷)

Finally new stock in Yodobashi, Bic Camera and Tsutaya.

Yay? Any idea whether it's actually a substantial amount of stock (aka Wii U demand may be satisfied going forward) or is there a long way to go with that?

As L~A says, Yo-kai Watch will probably be released in July, since 2013 has been Yo-kai Watch month.
After the release of Sankokushi more details should come.

Yeah, CoroCoro magazine will be out on April 15th, two weeks after Yo-kai Sangokushi, so perfect time to announce a release date and start pre-orders.

Most likely going to be some new Yo-kai revealed in the March 15th issue, too.

Bic Camera: Wii U Hardware Emergency Shipment (緊急入荷)

Finally new stock in Yodobashi, Bic Camera and Tsutaya.

Gotta love that "OMG WII U CONSOLE WOOOO!" sign, kind of surreal. Well, hopefully this is the end of that weird shortage period.

I'll be honest, this really serves no purpose day to day. Unless its like the last couple of days before release and it really ramps up unexpectedly (like our discussion before on DQB), the point is made once per week to show that Division is passing, by a good margin, W_Ds.

I try to post what I post only on release days and on late Sunday for the weekly stuff. Unless, as you said, occurrs something unexpected.

3D Edition was obviously helped by being an important launch title. Still did really good, but it's an unfair comparison.

Following up Yokai Watch Land - a mobile version of their arcade toy medal content - Level 5 is bringing Yokai Watch Puni Puni overseas this month.

I don't expect it to do very well, but this does reveal that they view their mobile titles as global titles, which is somewhat of a rarity for Japanese publishers.

Sega also announced that they intend to start focusing on bringing more of their Japanese mobile titles overseas.

For the other side of this equation, in what's a very rare event, Clash Royale is nearing the top 10 grossing section of the Japanese iOS app store despite being a Western mobile app.

I'm assuming he means "success" as in "climbing the rankings on this chart". Otherwise it doesn't really make much sense as he's not qualifying it (or the PS4 version) relative to the previous games.

Even though is not highly extended, there are some shops that reserve for themselves the decision of allowing the cancellation of a Wii U order, in case someone buys more than one console. Don't know if it's a practise extended across Japan, though.

Edit: I think Hiska, commented something on this regard.

I meant that it could have done better considering it was the first entry on the platform, even if as Takao said, the Vita version is the only one without the limited

The emergency shipment is gone. Every model is sold out again (品切れ中)

Man...At this point I hope it is true they are doing this on purpose to clear the stock before releasing nx...during the golden week lol

They'll be waiting for nothing.

not sure what you mean by that,

there are a ton of SF fans that learned their lessons after the "mega", "ultra" "super" and many other redundant iterations of the same game with IV.

I know several friends that will wait till it's clear all or most content is available in a disc.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Releasing first the 3DS version and later one the PS4 version can maximize sales, though. 3DS is still alive in 2016, and heavy hitters will help to keep the platform relevant and leader in the market (software-wise, 2016 is even better than 2015). Releasing DQXI around Christmas on 3DS might be a good move - waiting too much can damage its sales potential, since in 2017 the platform can see a huge drop-off (which doesnt' automatically imply lower sales of a sales juggernaut as DQXI, though).
This would be the case for 99% of the games out there but with DQ it doesnt really matter when they release it - it will sell. Its been years since the last new mainline game and no one interested in the game 2016 would lose interest in 2017.

SE and Nintendo will market the shit out of the game anyways. As duckroll said, we dont need to worry about DQXI.

This shows rather that they view Yokai Watch as a global IP so it makes sense to release mobile apps outside of Japan as well if they are doing it with 3DS games, toys, anime etc.

Will give Puni Puni a shot as preparation for the YW pal release.

Not saying someone should worry. Just saying what would be the best strategy to max sales, in my opinion.

I know, u are joking here lol. But don't u think that SFV IF release on 3DS, is going to had better sales vs on PS4 here like for sure.^_^

I don't think so actually. As an NX launch title, yes, but then again we'll never know because SFV is an exclusive.

i was joking just because that comparison about SF4 sales was a joke, but if someone thinks that SFV on 3DS would have sold better than how it sold on PS4... I won't wake him/her up from that dream

The Division should do alright - maybe 140K by the end of the month on PS4, I don't know what Nintendo were expecting from TPHD in Japan but those numbers don't look good.

While, i feel that if it is released on 3DS, it surely won't do as well as older SFIV, i feel it mayybe will do a bit better than PS4 here tx to the fact it is on handheld here. The lack of content will still kill the title though.

It would have tanked even harder on 3DS. Why waste your money on an unfinished fighting game, when you can just buy the finished one that several million people already also own.

Since a late port of SF4 and 3DS launch title with a character roster that was outdated performed better launch aligned than the first release of a new numbered SF(5) according to MediaCreate, your certainty seems pretty much unfounded.

So according to Steamspy Japan is actually the third largest country for SFV on Steam. ~7% which would be around 8-9K. I think that's surprisingly high considering it's PC in Japan.

194, not 149.

Also, pretty poor from Atelier Shallie. I wonder if it'll beat Atelier Ayesha Plus' low-floor record of 11,663. Heck, I wonder if it'll go lower than Rorona 3DS (8,352).

It looks it will be another strong week Momotaro Dentetsu. It was high at many retailers. I don't know how is possible there is stock for this reprint unless Konami occasionally restocks. It's not like it has stopped selling all these years.

for the sake of the industry all games should be published on 3ds, the only platform where games don't tank

there are many reasons why SF4 on 3ds did well, early 3ds title, no many games to buy at that time, price drop after few months (lol) was like a second launch

But if you wanna believe that playing a BEU on handheld is better than on a home (with a fighting stick if you play seriously and not just when you are waiting the train in Shinjuku), as I said, i dont wake up people from dreaming

Street Fighter V is a game intended to last for years with a games-as-a-service model and a clear focus worldwide.

Nobody knows if Capcom will succeed or not in that idea, but it's blatantly obvious that 3ds is the last thing they should consider for that bussiness model in 2016.

Discussing obvious things like this one is what makes the everything should be on 3ds crowd so tiring. 50-100k copies sold in Japan are irrelevant to what SFV wants to achieve in the long run. Let it go

So, to be clear, how much do you expect SFV to sell in Japan (so PS4 only) until, let's say, Fall 2018 (let's assume the PS5 will come out at this time)?

I also don't think it'd be a good idea to put SFV on 3DS for what it's worth, but for different reasons (technology, userbase saturation, etc).
