Thread Instructions Moved Here for Ladder Character Restrictions in OP

Hello and welcome to the new GAF Benchmark PC Community thread, this thread stems from some discussion that begun in this thread yesterday, the idea is that this thread will be ongoing and will track the overall ranking and speeds of many various GAF users computers.

This is an area of the GAF community that I feel is a bit lacking, many of us are big time hardware enthusiasts, but the assistance for overclocking and benchmarking for PC's isn't probably as big as it could be here, and this thread is here to change all that. In the other thread, everyone showed off their awesome setups however there is a lot of similarity between all of those setups in that many people have SLI GTX580's or various different graphics cards.

What this thread is all about is ranking those setups and actually declaring the GAF #1 fastest gaming computer. There will also be stages of ranking as well, the #1 fastest setup of each card in each sector.

With the upcoming release of Battlefield 3 it seems that a LOT of people are buying and or planning to buy new PC's so this is the perfect time to get this in check and really look at how everyone's PC's are performing and really wring the best performance out of them :)

I will be adding to this thread for different benchmarks as we go on, but for now I'm just going to be starting with AMD and Nvidia rankings in 3DMark11, because I imagine a lot of people will want to get on board and see where there computer ranks on GAF.

I will say this. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BENCHMARK YOUR COMPUTER, NO MATTER HOW GOOD OR BAD IT IS, I WANT (WE WANT) TO GET A GOOD CATALOGUE OF VIRTUALLY EVERYONE ON GAF AND SEE HOW ALL OF THE COMPUTERS THAT EVERYONE IS RUNNING RANK OUT. Part of this exercise will be seeing where you are in the rankings, seeing what your score is compared to others with very similar setups to yours, if your score is lower or higher your can be proud and then we can discuss what you might need to do to raise your score and get better performance out of your system.

Benchmark Instructions and how to Qualify your Entry.

Step 1. Download 3DMark11 from here - Download

Step 2. Install 3DMark11

Step 3. Open the program and run the benchmark on the standard settings (Performance Mode), you should not have to play with any settings and the basic edition is free. You can't change any settings but you don't need too. When you open the program hit the 'Basic' tab, then in the 'Run' section at the bottom, hit 'Benchmark tests only' in order to save yourself time.

Step 3. Record your results as follows:

Score - (1= # Of cards) and Type of card - Core/Mem/Voltage of cards - CPU @ Speed - Ram @ Speed - Motherboard - Forum Name - Air/Water/DICE/LN2 - Link(see below)

When you finish running the test, the program will give you a link to the 3DMark website, this is the page that you need to link to make sure the results are legit, without the link to that page, the results won't go into the ladder rank, so make sure you link to the 3D Mark page when you do your results. You can see my entry as the first entry in the ladder below as the first example, it couldn't be more easy :)

The 3dmark site told me my driver wasn't approved, and I haven't updated the drivers for my graphics card for quite a while, so I don't understand what's up with that.

Newest drivers aren't approved regularly - never mind that, you should have still got a score..

I thought I'd see if I ran 3DMark11 at all, and apparently the last time I did was with my old system, so here she is:

P3612 - ASUS 5850 DirectCU - E8400 @ 3.38Ghz - 4GB G.Skill DDR2 @ 1600 - ASUS P5QPro - Stock - Link

I should give it another go now that I have a 2500k.

Hey for now, you're in the number one spot!

All running at stock. I do frequently overclock, but hell, we're making a standard compendium here.

Not a stock compendium, just whatever you would usually run at. Not to worry though, I'll ad it in like this - if you overclock later though you can update your score.

Yeah... it seemed like a whole bunch of people were keen for this, and now I haven't even gotten it past page 1 and I'm the primary poster in the thread... took me AGES to set this up and no one cares :(

I think I shitted up the thread title though and people are just scanning over it :(

Ask a mod to change it, and post a link in the PC 2011 thread.

I'll post mine in a sec, going to a different driver set.

I'll add mine soon, but honestly it's probably too much work for most people. The average internet user has a super short attention span and something simple as downloading and running a program is enough to turn them off.

Perhaps... it'll only be for those who care, but this thread isn't for the average internet user, and the average internet user isn't on GAF now is he...

This is for PC GAF who went to the trouble of putting more money (potentially) into their hobby than buying a console, they've got their rig going, and now they've got a chance to see how it performs! Benchmarking that bad boy that they're typing from is the way to go, and seeing where it ranks is fun! At least... I think :p

So far, it's not been such a success, but I think it's because people don't know about it because I screwed the thread name.

Nice score... amazing how many more points you get than me with just two 580's with an extra gig of ram each - you're processor being 1ghz higher than mine must make a decent bit of difference as well, I'm going to break it down and see which area's you really killed me in a bit later. It's a really good exercise to see how different setups beat others and why.

Now this is where shit get's interesting. Only 300 points difference between you and Smokey. Your setups are in many ways identical, but in many ways VERY different.

Awesome stuff, amazing to see just how much more powerful the 580's actually are.

I think, if there are no new graphics card's out by the time BF3 come's out that I will be going SLI 580's to replace my current cards... although... I gotta check where that score is coming from, because if it's CPU score (which it very well could be) then I could be upgrading uselessly by doing that).

Tell me - how does Crysis 2 run for you?

If you're talking benchmarks - yeah, the 580s are king. But in gameplay, there really isn't a huge difference between a 6970 CrossFireX setup and a 580 SLI setup. I just upgraded from a pair of 6970s. I just couldn't stand the micro-stuttering and the drivers on the AMD side. All is good now.

It all boils down to what you want to do with your cards. I was tempted by 3GB 580s but it would have cost me about $450 more (I got my two 580s for $750 new) and I would have had to upgrade my case to get the cards I want (MSI Lightning XEs - what Smokey has, the lucky bastard - are over 12" long so my CM 690 II Advanced won't fit them.) I only game at 1080p so it wasn't worth it to go 3GB. I'll upgrade to the new Nvidia cards in 1Q 12.

I'll also battle anyone for the 3DMark 11 benchmark + bang/buck crown. :)

Macbook scored higher than a 5850? What GFX card has it got in it?

Probably the 2011 high-end MBPs - they have the AMD Radeon HD 6750M which is pretty beast. EDIT: although that looks like the wrong benchmark tool. :

Thats an overall score, It will never beat a 5850 as it only has intel3000 integrated graphics.

I used geek bench, it may not be the same benchmark as a pc benchmark. Hell now that I look at it, it didn't even test the gpu lol

Just curious why position #4? Would it not make mroe sense for the top person, in this case Smokey get the prize?

Ill post mine in a little bit...look out Smokey!!!! hehehehe

You'll probably get me your Lightning's are OC'd, mine are stock :p

Because it gives others a chance?! And to be honest if they can afford rigs like that wouldn't somebody who can't afford such luxuries need a free game a whole lot more?
=)

BTW thanks for the interesting thread.

True, but using that logic shouldnt the prize go to the guy/girl with the lowest score then? Just saying...lol

All benchmark software has a VASTLY different range of scores... with completely different meanings.

LOL yes! That would make alot more sense...

but i can't complain i'm somehow stuck at number four =)

True..lol. I think if you had your's oc to the same level it would be a virtual tie since we have very similar rigs. I know I am in the 12k, but need to do a run since I updated my OC on my CPU a few days ago and need the link to post in the thread.

Exactly why not number 1 :) Because the person who is number 1 is likely to 'have it all' already anyway :p

But at this rate... I should have made it not number 4 because it's going to be a Dual 580's person anyway :p

That would explain it then I would say the OP add Geekbench and Xbench for macs in the OP :)

I'm going to add further benchmarks later, highest Overclocks and Hard Drive overclocks for RAID setups... but for now, we're just doing Graphics cards to see how it goes, but we'll expand as the thread goes if everything goes well.
