Sony Q2: PS5 4.9 m; Spider-Man 2 5.0 m

Rest of year should be humongous sales. Their latest bundles are giving away a free game. The company is trying hard to hit PS5 sales estimates all year, where their first promo was $100 off earlier in the year. According to their latest earnings report today, hitting PS5 sales will be tough as per analysts even with the free game bundles.
You know what, I think even at those prices Sony still don't lose money on PS5s.

one thing to remember is that in the PS4 era, first party games got to $9.99-19.99 after a couple of years of launch.

Now, we have games like Demons souls or Returnal with a MSRP of $70 after 3 years.
You can blame the rise of digital and it being on PS+ extra/Premium subs for that. Makes the subscription service look more like "the best deal in gaming" and they know most won't hunt down a physical version.

PS tiers might hurt the sales, but I think that, sadly, they are copying Nintendo in their pricing, and a lot of PS users are used to the idea of get first party PS games for cheap.

In other news, MW3 and Spider-Man 2 PS5 SLIM bundles are sold for $499 atm at all (mostly) big retailers in the US.

They would have copied Nintendo a long time ago if it benefited them to keep the price high but now there are subs so they don't care if it's not selling a lot and the few sales that come probably come through digital. Just look at the ridiculous $70 pricing for Redfall right now. That would have been $10 bargain bin material in the past just to try and get some sales through curiosity. Now it's curiosity through a sub and a high MSRP to push you towards it.

Yeah, you’re spot on that, especially with such games as Demons Souls and Returnal that you can find on Subs.

Redfall at $70 is funny, but is not on bargain bin despite being a disaster.

Hope that getting more systems into more people will increase the first party sales, but, in the last 18 months, Sony only has released GOW:R and Spider-Man 2, very very bad output for a console in its 3rd-4th year.

In Europe the price will go as low as 429€ for BF.
It will be a huge month.
