Sony's plan to compete with Xbox: Stay the course

Yes once they start releasing games......
Sony are already releasing quality games and increasing their studios.
What 180? Sony lack multiplayer games. Pretty obvious to improve where you lack in isn't it?
Just like releasing PC ports it's extra money for Sony.
Bruh how long are we going to pretend forza 5 and halo infinite weren’t on top of the NPD list of the year while being out for 2/3 months and Both respectively being at/damn near 90 meta rated games…

I just gotta keep on pretending nobody’s playing forza 5 and halo infinite because their not new ip’s or am I supposed to stop playing it because people on steam aren’t playing jt as much as people on Xbox with halo being stuck firmly in the top 5 and 10 most played games regularly beating apex and there now brother game cod vanguard.

When will the cap cease…

When will we acknowledge starfield coming out this year???? Red fall??? Didn’t Arkans JUST make ps5’s highest rated game????

Also, honest to god question. Since apparently Xbox gamers are waiting on high quality exclusives (that just so happen to not be linear finished then done games, but having constant expansions/weekly updates) and ps5 gamers are not. I’m genuinely wondering if you’ve been playing NOTHING BUT Spider-Man, demon souls, returnal or ratchet this entire year… alone…. Doing the same missions… over an over an over an over an over…

If that’s the quality I’m supposed to expect from MS then I’ll just stick with Nintendo cuz at least I’ll be able to play with someone other than myself lol, or be able to screw around in endless open world like breath of the wild. Different strokes different folks my guy.

I'm sorry are you selling time machines?

Show me the advantage. Show me Xbox 1st in hardware sales, show me Xbox 1st in revenue. I'll leave profits out of this because at 70 billion there's no profit in sight, that's probably more money than Xbox did in its existence(revenue, profits of course lmao).

Speculate my son, but you trying to drop time travel facts and so show me the facts. Where are those games?

By the end of the generation they might have the same amount of studios. Maybe even by the end of this year. But if you really are posting from the future, give me the low down.... Are Tom Holland and Zendaya still together?

What so you dont think having more devs an therefore more games is not better then having less games?

Can you remind me all this major quantity of successful IP released by Bethesda and Activision in the past generation comparing it with the Sony studios releases?
Whats the point you have already made your mind up. If your that bothered ypu can look for yourself.

Sony make cringe trainers.

I think having games is better than having no games. Having better games is better than having more games.

You also seem to think it's one game a dev, when that's not how Activision Blizzard were operating for example. Either way, I'm being very clear that you are talking about 2027, and you don't know how many studios Sony will have by the end of this year.

So again, speculate, but don't drop facts from a time machine. Obviously it's not looking like Xbox is going to be cancelled if that's what you mean.

How do you know sony games will be better? Is it you who has the time machine?

Saying what games are "better" is a dumb argument anyway, because after a certain point its subjective anyway, and as I've already said what is not subjective is that XGS games have sold more then PS games.

PlayStation as a brand is huge, USA gamers maybe don't understand how huge it is because Xbox is big there too.
In Europe it's Sony and Nintendo and Xbox is trying to catch up, don't get me wrong they are doing really effin great, but brand loyalty is really strong these days, even cod can't change this, and Sony isnt going to be a sitting duck as well.

So yeah, stay the course and expand uniquely, as Nintendo did.

Well, with the exception of the first half of the 360, a couple of years where the PS3 wasn't released in the main PlayStation market (PAL lan) and some extra year where people was still managing how to make games with that alien hardware and people wasn't able to buy PS3 because it was too expensive, Sony dominated Microsoft.

Specially now, when PS4 sold more games than any other console in gaming history, it's 2.5M consoles away of being the best selling console ever at its point of lifetime, PS5 had the best launch ever, its 1st party exclusives are selling more than ever and Sony is making more money than any other platform holder ever did. Even in subscriptions they make more money and have more subscribers. Sony also releases more exclusives (1st, 2nd, 3rd, time or not, console or not), more new IPs and wins more awards.

I mean, this last quarter Sony almost made more money selling games and dlc only than the entire division where Microsoft has gaming. So no, they don't need to react and less giving away the games they sell because are giving them a ton of revenue and profit.

And xCloud is in beta, PS Now performs better and has a way bigger catalog.
This couldn't be more wrong Alex. You should stay in the indie lane, developing and not this crazy talk. Stick to Anarkade buddy

I think Sony's strategy will continue being the same:
  • Continue increasing the manpower of existing internal studios to allow them make more games
  • Continue acquiring gamedev studios for PS Studios that may help grow in new areas or niches not covered by existing 1st party teams
  • Continue acquiring support studios that already did work for them (outsourcing, porting, remasters / remakes, mobile...)
  • Next gen iteration of VR
  • Next gen iteration of game subscriptions & cloud gaming
  • Grow in new markets (key game genres not covered/dominated by 1st party, PC, mobile, MP, GaaS, eSports, movies & tv)
  • Sign 2nd party deals with new studios built by creators of top multiplatform IPs. If it works, buy them
  • Sign more 3rd party (doesn't matter if timed console) exclusives than ever before
  • Sign marketing deals with the most important multiplatform AAA games (+ some cool indies) of the year
I think the only difference is that with Bungie they did open another way to grow:
  • Buy diffeent multiplatfom publishers and keep them as multiplatfom publishers under SIE, instead of integrating them under PS Studios to make exclusive content

I think that the only thing they'll do to counter the Zenimax+ABK acquisitions is to maybe release Knack 3.

Blockbuster was too slow to recognize the massive impact the internet was having on the movie rental industry. What is happening in the gaming industry that is even remotely comparable to that?
You can buy the latest release movie for $120 aud and watch it only from your home

Meanwhile the competition doesnt charge you $120 …allows you to play it anywhere and has a considerable amount of movie studio working putting out stuff compared to the other

No issues here….carry on jimbo

Because Xbox has completely reinvented itself over the last 4 years. They are a completely different animal now, Sony are actually losing studios, either closing them down or losing contracts with third parties who worked exclusively with them. All that and the market is shifting, Sony are not shifting with it unfortunately and it could be to their detriment.
Someone though this through! Yea to think MS is the same is to invite 3rd place for sure!

So what is your point, they two posts are not a contradiction.
Previous performance is the only indicator of what future performance may be.

Or are you also one of the people who will think the next ND,SSM or insomniac game will sell under a million and score a 60metacritic 😆

No idea what any of that has to do with the Blockbuster analogy......but if it makes you feel better to say all that then I'm happy for you.

Great, so we’re in agreement.
Past sales don’t reflect future sales.

No I agree that its a possibility that a ND game coould score 60.

I also think its a possibility that there is a flying teapot rotating around the sun.

However I think its extremely unlikely.

I mean why are you hyped about any game if the quality of its predecessor or Devs reputation has no merit?

You shouldn’t be hyped about any game you haven’t seen. Why would you be?
Rare’s a great example of that.

Why does it matter if its under the Xbox banner?

It just shows that XGS has more games and more market power then sonys.

But keep on being in denial.
Even with Bethesda and Activisions revenue added to MS's gaming revenue, they are still smaller than Sony and Tencent.

So, no.

So the entire slate of 2022 doesn’t exist? Got it.

It matters. But MS has similarly big games too.

With current studio strength, Sony will be putting out 3 AAA 3rd person games per year.

MS will be putting out 8. That too with diversity like Psychonauts 2, Deathloop, Diablo 4 etc.

No way Sony can compete with this with current structure.

How can Sony possibly compete with Xbox - whom they've been dominating for 20+ years?
because the Microsoft with who they fight the last 20 years wasnt the Ms of Nadella and Spencer the vision is diametrically different....especially under the voice allocated resources for the division
