Being in a relationship does not have to mean sex takes place. There are people in this world that believe sex should be within marriage, or who just aren't ready for that level yet and that's ok and their partner should know that going in and choose to respect it and live it with, or get out. Just think how much worse it would be if someone has sex before they're ready. That never works out good! And no, I'm not one of them but I am damn picky about who I am in a relationship with and I've lost dates before because of not wanting to put out quickly (there was little to no spark, or the guy seemed flaky, womanizing whatever).
And yes, some girls do spoil their guys rotten. If my boyfriend doesn't consider himself one of the most spoiled men alive he needs his head kicked in. Admittedly, it's not about the sum of the money I spend (I only wish I had the cash to spoil him the way I'd like, materialistic bastard that he is *wink*), but the amount of energy and thought I regularly put into making him feel special and appreciated.
As for dropping hints versus coming out and saying it, it depends on the guy and after a year you should probably know which camp he falls into. I've had boyfriends that could take the smallest hint dropped to the point you had to be careful what you said or he'd waste his energy to guys who you could beat over the head with a frying pan and be painfully direct. Some guys like the "hey honey I need a new DVD player" hint and other guys like the subtle. It all depends where they are coming from. Personally I like a mix. I like my guy to drop some hints so I can surprise him from time to time with something unexpected (it sucks if you don't know what they want, or they always get it for themselves) and sometimes I'll openly ask for an ideas list, so when he proves difficult to shop for I can pull it out and be done with it.
And definitely count yourself lucky as a silver lining if that helps. Some guys have hideous taste in jewelry and clothes. A guy who has good taste in both is priceless! In my opinion it's wasteful of a guy to buy something like that if he's not sure it will go over well. I got a ring for my 16th birthday that still makes me cringe. Loved the thought, bit my tongue and wore it anyway, but always hoped he'd take an effort to find out what my style was before he blew money again.
Thongs are ok sometimes , but boyshorts are totally uncomfortable and are hard to pull off (they flatter a rare few).

What a ridiculous thread. Waychel's problem shouldn't have even occured for someone who is an ENTIRE YEAR into a relationship. I missed the initial threads where everyone allegedly knows this person to be of female persuasion, but at a guess I'd say the entire scenario is the fabrication of a morbidly obese 33 year-old male posting from his parents' basement. I guess I'll never know now that Waychel's been banned, but hey, it's not as though people weren't already calling her on her story. That shouldn't been enough to destroy her reputation as is.

Well...I've read through the first page and the last page. As for my thoughts on the first page: I'm not sure which side I'd take. The guy does seem like a stingy dick, but a) he was provoked by the comparison to ____'s girlfriend, and thus may not have been thinking clearly. Completely uncalled for (the comparison, that is). And b) since when did (amount of money spent on person) = (degree of affection)? I'm sorry, but that just seems like an incredibly shallow attitude to have, though I don't think waychel was completely endorsing that either, to be fair. A far more accurate equation would probably be (amount of time + thought) = (degree of affection), though that's still kind of reductive. But anyway.
As for the last page, OMG, that ban certificate is so fucking hilarious I can't stand it. :lol :lol Mike Works rocks.
