Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Not condoning what he did but people are way overreacting. Will is a broken man in a bad marriage and figured the lashing he would get from Jada is he did nothing was worse than the backlash he is getting. This one event should not destroy him.
I agree that what he did was wrong and unacceptable. I almost feel bad for the guy but I won't have any respect for him until he gets rid of Jada she seems like she might have NPD. I'm sure she been yelling, berating and emasculating him more than usual since the slap.

Yep you caught me. I am a apologist for violence.

Let's just ignore that the very first post that I ever made in this thread was condemning both Chris Rock for his inappropriate joke and Will Smith for his ridiculous response. Yep just apologizing for violence and endorsing it in every way that I can every chance I get. That's me alright.

This is exactly why I usually do not bother with these celebrity drama threads. 🙄

Boo-hoo. look at your previous post condoning it because 'Oscars'.

"Have you ever been to a bar or a club on the weekend? This shit happens all the time. The only reason this is notable is that it happened at the Oscars and the people involved are famous."

No, it's notable for anyone.

Again what clubs you go to? (I know the answer is none).

But that’s the whole point, you’re equating jokes with physical violence. Stop trying to squirm your way out of it. Maybe you just don’t want to bother with this particular drama because you’ve been called out on a shit take.

You seem to be doing a lot of bothering for something you don’t bother with. Why do you care so much that someone gets criticised for striking someone?

Now you’re thinking. Depends on what joke was told I guess.
You can never tell a joke that a white man doesn’t deserve.

So, in your strange version of events Jada is a child being bullied? Also, she wasn’t defending herself, so that pic means jackshit.
There is a difference in aggression or threat of it and self defense.

In this scenario Will is the bully. He assaulted a smaller person.

Joe Rogan is Chris Rocks dad.

Will aggressed on another humans Rights. Chris could have morally and legally defended himself in kind.

Saying the most vile nasty things is not a threat to another human.

the exception of it is actual threats of violence.

Chris did not threaten Will or his family.

You probably think that was a good ‘gotcha’, but you don’t make sense. So a child being bullied vs Will Smith the 50+ year old at the Oscars slapping another adult is the same, how?
Is the same becouse sometimes violence is better then thousand words . And what Smith have done Is what i've desired to do many Times in my life...but i'm Just a coward Introverted nerd ...

I understand why Chris Rock didn't want the police involved. He actually saved the academy awards... Just as much as he saved Will. If hadn't refused to press charges and just the let the police go out there and haul him off...

The academy looks anti-black and folks get sickened to see Will Smith get hauled off by cops ... His career would be effectively ruined for at least a decade if not completely.

Chris understood the optics and saved them both!

Plus, this was so out of character for Will... This was THE worst thing he's done because everyone who seems to meet him, even tourists or fans, has nothing but nice things to say about him. Erin Cummings on The John Campea Show was defending him and talking about how great he was to everyone in set of King Richard (she played the CPS Lady).

He'll probably get a suspension or barring from academy consideration for future awards for like 5 years.

Again, they shouldn't take his award back because if they do that, they'll look like hypocrites for not doing the same for literal rapists and pedophiles that have been known for years to the public.

A reasonable comment. Makes me wonder why you liked that trash comment further up the page.

I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and try to understand their meaning and where they come from. Plus... Some people need a like every now and then. Even if I don't agree ... Unless it's something egregious.

Good to know you give a like to the following sentiment for the benefit of the doubt:

‘Sometimes some people deserve a slap’

I guess who deserves that slap can just be made on a case by case basis.

Plus... I remember my mom always telling me to defend myself and others if there was a fight ... I hate seeing anyone in my presence getting beat on. Had to step in twice on the train... Once when no one was doing anything and the other time WE ALL (all black men) stood up to protect a young black woman from this absolute FOOL of a black man denigrating her and about to hands on her. He ran away!

Those 4 guys from the trains definitely deserved a slap or a kick in the nuts (1 guy threatening the girl and 3 thug guys beating up a gay dude).

Again, how is this relevant to Will Smith slapping someone at the Oscars?

Still doesn’t excuse Will Smith’s actions, so how is it relevant?

Didn't say it excuses his actions. I can see how people think it does but in TOTAL context (the joke), it doesn't.

Still not going to "cancel" him because of his worst moment. He needs time and maybe Jada needs to go.

I don't always explain what I mean very well so it seems like I'm all over the place. So apologies for not being ultra clear. I'm trying to be as clear as I can be.

Fame, skin color and identity.

I have gotten used to people mindlessly defending based on immutable characteristics, but the thing that *still* gets me is that people are defending some overpaid "celebrity" who does nothing of real value. Like he is someone who needs to be defended. The epitome of privilege that these mentally ill folks love to complain about.

lol imagine actually thinking physical violence is a reasonable response against any words. Some weak people in this thread.

Stop this two side bullshit. There are no two sides. Chris Rock did nothing wrong. He didn’t heckle a woman in the middle of the street. He was hired to break the guests balls. He did it, with an absurd tame joke (which isn't even relevant per se). And someone assaulted him while he was doing his job. And nothing happened after.

Jokes are not equivalent to slaps. If it was Will would have said something back. But guess what? He didn’t. (well he did after the slap lol)

And everyone is walking on eggshells afraid to point why did this deranged behavior did not lead him to be escorted and, worse, end up the night being applauded by a band of dimwits afraid to condone his actions on the spot.

Hey now, Men in Black is one of the best movies of the 90s. Let's not say things we can't take back.

You don't always know where the day takes you. Sometimes you have to take out seven pounds of flesh as your follow your pursuit of happiness. After earth focuses, sometimes that makes you an enemy of the state, and hopefully you don't get a concussion when they hitchu back.

If you're by yourself, be very careful of getting involved in a relationship fight. You might find both parties turn on you pretty quickly.

Lol, thanks for the laugh!

But let's be honest. The reason why movies like Men in Black are so successful are not because of the actors. Its because of the quality writing, strong set design, sound design, special effects, etc. Actors are just one small part of it all and they get *far* too much of the attention for, arguably, the easiest part of the creation of a film.

You should stay away from comedy clubs. Unless the words coming at you are “i’m going to hurt you, your family” or anything along those lines, there’s no reason for violence. Get some thicker skin- you’re soft as puppy shit.

That's not the same as condoning it you donut. I'm saying it's only front page news because it happened live. If this had been an after party or somewhere else away from cameras it would hot gossip for like a few hours on social media and that's it.

Both situations are wrong, but one gets way more coverage. That's what I was getting at.

"Just put a fkin wig if you dont want us to make a fun of you"

Bill

That's what a lot of us have said. I said that too way back.

If Jada wants to go to the biggest annual actor's show sporting a bald head, then get ready for jokes. If someone in Chris' view was wearing a pink tuxedo, Chris Rock might call that guy out too.

Classic case of "Put yourself out there hoping everyone notices, but only like it if it's positive comments". It's really no different than social media whores. It's just that this isn't a YT or Twitter user, but an actress at a show. Same concept of attention grabbing, but act like a baby on YT when someone makes fun sayin: What a shit video!

It's just words at an award show told by a comedian 40 ft away on stage. And Will and Jada's biggest career boosts came from sitcoms. If anyone should know about goofing with jokes it should be them.

No need go to hyperspastic looking for blood. This is the type of stuff 10 year olds do at recess when they piss each other off.

Will Smith is 53 years old acting like a child in front of millions of people. Got to act mature.

Ricky Gervais monologue ragged on the entire room years ago basically calling all celebs entitled rich pedo lovers. Nobody did a thing. Many of them hated the jokes as you could hear some groans, but it was capped at that. And Gervais was ragging on them for 10+ minutes straight. So as much as the celebs hated his jokes, at least they sat in their seat not acting like uncontrolled babies. Not one person in the crowd did anything.

Funny you say this... This is what everyone told me after I did that. It's a long story but the short of it is that I DID get right in the middle before he punched her .. I don't know how I did because I was so far away... But he punched me sending me flying backwards which resulted in me getting my back cut up (right into the blinds and a radiator). I came to and he was trying to to still hit her and her uncle ... She was on the floor trying to crawl away backwards... I got angry, yanked him off his feet 6 feet backwards and held him in place before the police came. He went to jail, I went to the hospital and when I was discharged, they all treated me like a hero. First and only time that'll happen, though.

It was my friend's sister I saved that night.

Will Smith ruined his own night. He didn’t need to hit Chris Rock because he made a joke. Especially since they’re acting like he was ribbing her all night.🤷🏽‍♂️ Only ones asking Chris to apologize are just anti-comedy. Like the Resetera crowd. I like Will Smith and think he’s better off without Jada and think he’ll be fine after this and he’ll move on. But nah, not justifying slapping someone for a joke.

Yes, obviously. Will apologized, agents are stopping projects with him, his Netflix original is on hold, the media and other celebrities have come out against him and he has seen little support relative to Chris Rock... but you're still asking this frankly fucking stupid question?

Talk about fucking fragile 🤣

I just watched a whole roast at an awards show just now on FB. It was a 7 mins clip of two comedians roasting each other UNSCRIPTED about their weight and size. They were laughing and had everyone else laughing!

Will should have done the same and got on the mic and made some jokes about Chris and they could have played off each other ... Or better yet... Jada could have done that.

Will could have walked up and said "So why didn't you talk about MY bald head in Aladdin? Aladdin 2, y'all!"
I get why some are ticked off at Chris but it didn't need to end up with him being slapped.

No but...you don't agree with that quote of Craig? All pacifists now?
Dont know when you were last in school but if your kid is the first one to throw a punch, he is the one that gets suspended or has brought charges against him. History of verbal bullying doesnt matter.

Daniel Craig's advice works only for millionares like Daniel Craig who can pay off his son's victims.

Amy Schumer announced on Instagram that she is still triggered and traumatized by the event and that even days after the event the bad feelings won't go away.

One of the other hosts felt neglected and belittled that no one apologized to them for what had happened, even though it is such hard work to host such an event.

I hope these poor victims can recover from the anguish they had to endure.
