Wolverine prototype gameplay footage leaks (major spoilers)

And we can make that criticism from this leak because we are certain how exactly the game is going to play or how these mechanics are going to be implemented.

That's like writing a game off because you hear its a FPS. We all know that you move forward and back and strafe with one stick and turn and look up and down with the other. We all know there's going to be a gun in the middle of your screen. We know there is a fire button and an aim button that makes you zoom in. So yeah, every single FPS over the last 20 years is generic.

You see how stupid and unreasonable I sound? Yeah... exactly.

Oh well, if it's not going to be implemented that way then great. I hope it does something unique and interesting.

If it is, then this game can f*** off. AAA rot.

Arkham combat is pretty easy to define. Snap lock on attacks to keep a rhythm with characters snapped together over long distances to make the animations work. Counter prompts. Unblockable attacks that must be dodged. Arkham, Spider Man, Shadow of War. Similar to old Assassin's Creed / Ghost of Tsushima but not the same.

Wolverine reminds me more of God of War. But it does some new stuff on its own with the jumping. And then out of combat you have Horizon / Uncharted style stealth and platforming with a light wall run.

That all sounds good but I watched the part with fighting the red ninja guys and I noticed that there was no dodge or counter or prompt. When I watched it I was specifically looking for an all-canceling invincible dodge, and was pleased to notice it's not there.... Or at least not there yet. Or maybe I just didn't see it.

I don't think there's going to be multi-tens million selling game without combat that is inherently derivative of ones that have come before. If I couldn't describe what I saw in terms of heavy tracking, delayable strings, and finishing prompts, then maybe I would use at least two games to compare it unless it was exactly like one game. The last time I heard the words Arkham combat this much for with Spider-Man, and despite being from the same guys and in the same wheelhouse, this looks as different from Spider-Man as it does from Batman. At least the realm of AAA games which are dumbed down for huge audiences.

If I want to describe this reductively, which is useful sometimes, I'm at least going to say it looks somewhere in between Spider-Man and God of war. That seems massively more descriptive, especially considering this seems to not have at least one of the fundamentals of Arkham itself. People saying it all the time with no specifics makes it hard to know what people are talking about. Heck, It'd be more accurate to call it "western AAA" combat.

Damn that looks...not great. And I don't mean the fucking graphics. If all they can do is a simpler version of Arkham Asylum what is the point? Hope it evolves significantly in terms of scope and options but not holding my breath. Sneaking around invisibly through grass/vantage points and easily stealth takedowning enemies belongs in The PS3 era.
Gaming has evolved so much from 2009 hasn't it? /s

There's some sort of hook that's not put in yet. The differentiators in spider-man were the movement always being available, and the option to web the enemies. Both of those worked out well. The gadgets, not so much. Those were halla basic.

We're not seeing any of that here so either they forgot to put in so much as a wheel of items or this is a bare-bones demonstration of the fighting.

The only problem is that sm's abilities are pretty obvious, but wolverine just cuts and stabs guys. So if they don't have those kind of hooks, it's going to have to go more in the direction of gow. Gow has a lot more commitment in the moves, slowed down for the cinematic impact (which is excellent-suck it) , and being well balanced. In short, a better game.

Whatever kind of hooks they add in there, I hope it's good. I never thought I would be able to play as much spider-man as I did but they managed to make it pretty fun.

I'm pointing at machine part because the cyborg enemy in previous video has very clear design to let people know he is a cyborg. Here you don't see any thing to prove he is a cyborg. You just pull a theory he is cyborg out of no where.

Wouldn't be surprised if they cancel this game now due to the leaks.
Has that ever happened? Seems a bit extreme to throw away years of work because a few people online have seen 25 minutes of a vertical slice.

Edit: Nevermind. Just saw the tweet regarding a fully payable build leaking.

Game is about 3 years out. They probably don't even have the particle effects they're going with yet.

This is why devs don't want shit shown early, the ignorant minds just assume without any knowledge of development pipelines, etc..

Just like when "the grass didn't move when he stepped on it or walked through it" in an old build of Ghost of Tsushima, and we tried telling everyone that those types of rendering passes usually are added late and in final. Even DF were being ignorant cuckholds for supposed "experts."

And what happened? The grass had collision detection shaders just fine in the retail build day 1.

If it was the original leaks of snippets, but that full build leak is really bad.

If the game isnt canned, you can be pretty sure a 2 year delay will come in at the very least.

n one of the leaked slides which surfaced on Reddit, Insomniac Games presented their visual target for Wolverine in the Photogrammetry category. The slide explains how the studio aims to use real-world scan data to create realistic characters and includes Hellblade 2's protagonist Senua as one of the examples of the level of realism they are aiming for.

These enemies are in tremendous shape. I mean you’ve got a guy with the strength of Wolverine, punching razor sharp claws into people, and it leaves the same mark as a good cat scratch.

I think trash mobs would have been the way to go, where every swipe decapitates. Think melee Dead Space but faster with more more volume. This feels like the Star Wars games where lightsabers mostly hit like whiffle ball bats. Aside from the scripted finishers of course

Ah yes, people using putting the leaked game from a RANDOMWARE ATTACK on their machines to play an incomplete game early. What could possibly go wrong.
 
Outside of the sniffing mechanic I think that vertical sliced looks brilliant. I'm not overly familiar with the comic lore so it'll be an interesting ride.

I shit on this kind of games but at the same time i'm not going to pretend i expect otherwise from a studio like Insomniac. It's crazy how they got big since making Spiderman, expectations are entirely different. But they are still just good makers, with an emphasis on traversal and animations as their particular skills.

I doubt they would make a good Resistance game nowadays, or even a good new IP. In theory i would want as many new IPs as possible but i don't trust those western studios to come up with something that's not lame at this point. So they might as well be tempered by preexisting IPs.

Not a chance. But since everything is out in the wild now, it will be interesting to see how they do marketing for it, that is what will certainly not go as planned.

Maybe a transparent, dev diary progress update style like Ninja Theory did with first Hellblade?

I think their initial smart response should be posting clips from vertical slices of spiderman and R&C how they looked 3-4 years before release

I don't think they have the budget for that. Sounds like they're pushing it to the limit as is.

Overall, most gamers are pretty unaware with hacks and leaks. Very few actually read the details on gaming forums. The most popular gaming sites aren't reporting on the details that would ruin the game

Exept those leaks are now all over social media pushed to feeds of people browsing gaming, via recommended content algothythms.

Back in the day if stuff like this leaked you had to know where to look. Places like Neogaf.

Now millions of clueless kids will just stumble upon it on Tik Tok out of context thinking it looks like shit. And that's only part of the damage.

People said the same shit about GTA 6 and how shitty it looked. Similarly, I don't think anyone will care once Insomniac and Sony reveal proper gameplay 6 months or a year before release. Just as nobody cares about the GTA 6 leak footage, it's just a footnote

I can easily judge an fps by looking how you strafe and how movement and gun mechanics… Maybe I like certain look and feel… Yes you can judge anything at anytime what are you even talking about??? You sound ridiculous….
