South Park: The Stick of Truth has been censored in EU (only consoles affected)

I wonder how much was taken out of the actual show over the years because it was just too much. The show when aired on TV is censored with no swearing. I know the show goes really far with touchy subjects and the game, even censored in certain areas will still be brutal in this regard. If they had just cut this stuff to begin with across the board would people be happier since ignorance is bliss? I get that people are mad but I cant imagine not playing this game over some cut content that probably amounts to a few minutes of visceral abortion mini games.

Never really intended to buy the game, but it's still bullshit. Especially considering it's south park. What's the point of having it in the game if you're just going to censor it?

Ubisoft needs to grow a pair.

I'm not surprised that the console versions would be censored. Consoles have a kiddier, err, family-friendly image. If I had to guess, Sony doesn't want a news story saying "PlayStation game has kids performing abortions."

Don't bother with the "but it's rated M" thing because we know the letter M is total kid bait. Just look at GTA and so on.

Err, the US consoles version are uncensored so I doubt this has anything to do with Sony.

Yes I was thinking it may be Australia, who are of course even more of religious nutjobs than the US. But it feels weird to blanket censor the entire PAL region for that small market on the other side of the world. Then again, it's so out there that it must be true. God I hope this isn't a marketing stunt.

WTF? Many Australians are atheists or at least not religion-affiliated.

Wait, so even the Australia PC version will be uncut??

So is there not really any point in me getting somebody from the US to gift it to me over steam?

From what I have read they have been able to get just about everything in they have wanted to. The showing Muhammad thing was a big deal. That was one time where Comedy Central did not budge. They still managed to include him in the intro screen in that episode, And he had already appeared as a character a couple of times previously without incident.

I think the Tom Cruise stuck in the closet episode was also removed from rotation for a bit. It originally showed intact, but I guess pressure from the the Scientology folk got it removed for a bit.

They got fuck on the air, and used shit like 180 times in one episode. I think most of the censored stuff has they have not made a big deal out of because simply bleeping a word does not really have a negative impact. It sometimes makes it more humorous.

Hehe yes I was trolling

A bit. They can be very morally conservative. Their games regulations are worse than ze germans.

It's not like the Australian public votes to censor games. These decisions are all made by a small council of middle-aged ladies who've likely never seen a video game played in their lives.

Are these the same middle-aged ladies regulating breast-size in adult videos?

At least you will get the game. Here in UAE South Park is banned.

This is what I am getting when search for south park.

But... why? Those scenes sound like they would more likely create controversy in the US than in Europe?! And then even console-only, wtf.
(not to mention it's SP and everyone expects that kind of stuff and it's only some crude comic figures...)

Import it is.

Ha, back in 1998/1999 the only South Park related items that were available in the UAE were singles of Master P's "Kenny's Dead" and bootleg t-shirts that were sold in tiny independent t-shirt shops. Had a Stan and Chef one. Good ol' Hamdan Centre never let me down. Only way to watch the show was if someone managed to smuggle in the VHS or DVDs from abroad (The days before fast internet). Never actually watched my first episode until literally the first night I arrived into the UK (it was a friday)

Funnily enough, Family Guy is not banned there last time I visited....
what a damn shame

If you're afraid it's going to offend people, give me the option to self-censor the game (in the same vain MW2 did). Don't make a game based on arguably 'offensive' TV show, then not follow through on it. Have Trey & Matt commented on this yet?

Make game about strongly politically incorrect show.
Censor it.
??????
Profit?

Clearly whoever buys this game is buying it to see rainbows and flowers everywhere, good marketing strategy Ubisoft. The fans who wanted the game will be pleased.

Does anyone know if the 360 version of this will be region locked? My understanding (I'm not a big 360 gamer but I have one) is that the choice is up to the publisher as to whether they region lock a game. Is this so?

I believe it is yes.

Already asked Videogamesplus.ca, they confirmed it's region-locked.

Australian censorship still blows my mind... why have an adult rating for games if you still have to censor the things? (EDIT: And for the record i'm not American...)

Not the best news. I've seen tweets from some people who work at Ubisoft pointing people to the PC version but what do you do if you don't have a PC (or one capable of playing the game)?

I don't have a PC that I can play the game on so I'm a bit out of luck. Anyone know if the US Xbox 360 version is region locked or if Ubisoft make their games region free?

Just found out that a local semi-legit dealer sells the PC version for €19.99. I broke down like a paper dove and bought it.

Worst case scenario - it turns out to be the fucked Russian version and I will use it as a coaster.

Otherwise, South Park RPG get!
