2014 FIFA World Cup Final |OT| Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 after extra time

I feel kinda empty without the World Cup. It was my first time really getting into it. I had a blast and watched almost every game in the tournament. I think I missed like two. I have a friend who follows the Premier League (whatever the England one is) so I might just watch with them. I'll need to figure out what my nearest MLS team is too.

Whatever you do, it's probably best to follow the same teams\players. Getting into a new sport is exciting but it has its drawbacks as you have no emotional affinity. As time goes by it makes the sport more interesting\nervous and it improves the inevitable poor games which will occur. Looking for an MLS team is a good idea, watching live is much better than on television.

I'm not bitter, nor salty. I was angry at my stupid countryman almost ruining the final game. And I don't like how people throw their hands in the air like Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf. I think it's very well possible to admit that Howedes deserved a red card and that the Neuer situation was at least questionable and still be happy with a very well deserved victory.

But yeah, I should stop now after my right to live in Germany and still be critical about the freaking german football team is already in question. TEH OUTRAGE
I think you are taking it too hard on yourself ..

After a while you realise the World Cup is really the pinnacle and we then get into the absolute mindless tedium that is club football. You are numbed by it for 4yrs then you remember what you'd been missing. There is literally nothing else that compares from participation rate to general interest. The World Cup transcends all, it takes over, the TV shares speak volumes, no other sporting event is even remotely close. The French knew what they were doing when they came up with the idea.

But then I realised the next World Cup is going to be shit cos it's in Russia and the one after that is going to be awful unless they change the venue. Another 8yrs till we get something that will rival this one. A long time to wait. Brazil was excellent, and we had the right winners in Germany. Felt for them in 2006, it's been a long time coming. Nice to see the 2006 class graduate in style.

We should petition FIFA to switch the 1994 and 1990 titles between Brazil and Germany.

That way Germany will have won every 20 years (54-74-94-14).

But, the way it is right now is much cooler.

Brazil's 3rd title = 1970 + 24 years = 1994 = Brazil's 4th title
Italy's 3rd title = 1982 + 24 years = 2006 = Italy's 4th title
Germany's 3rd title = 1990 + 24 years = 2014 = Germany's 4th title

I was really happy with how the US did. It was super fun to watch and I feel the whole country minus Anne Coulter really rallied around them. Cool stuff.

Nothing will fill the emptiness you feel. Club football is a whole different kind of thing.

Yeah, there really is nothing like the world cup. I've been following club football all my life, and as someone else said, i'm kind of numb to it now.

The Euros aren't quite the same either. They are a little more straight, not the same kind of party.

But I never tire of the world cup, it reignites my passion for football, even so called boring tournaments like 2010. I guess the fact it is every four years is part of what makes it special though.

Euro's still have a charm for me. It's more subdued which can be kind of nice and there's less casual followers so it's less about the spectacle and more about just the games.

Yah I'll get another with 4 eventually. I ordered this one a few weeks back. Don't regret it.

Still a great looking jersey :) I still rock the one from WC 2010

4 Stars Reus Jersey cause hes a Weltmeister too and he'll lead us to the Europameisterschaft!

Bought a 3 star Reus jersey before he got injured. When I heard about his injury I was sick........felt so bad for him. Does anyone know if he has made any public comments following the WC? In the interviews I read back in June he seemed crushed, but was looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

AFAIK, only on his twitter account @woodyinho.

It was devastating. I watched the match he got injured in. And it was brutal man, just brutal to see him there, the hope of Germany, lying in pain :(. Im a bayern supporter but I love Reus. Hes my favorite German player.

Loew Blow

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/323943.html

"I told Goetze to show the world that you are better than Messi and that you can decide the World Cup. I had a good feeling with him," Loew said.
"He did that. Goetze is a miracle boy. He can play any position and has superior technical qualities. I know he is able to decide a match and he scored a great decider today.

"From the beginning, we knew that we would not have only 11 players, that we would need 14 and everyone must be in top shape during the tournament.
