Timedog you're not funny.
In that scene she is fully extending her muscles past there peek. Super flexing.
That isn't how she normally looks.
I think everyone is in agreement that Pearlman should play Batou.
I wouldn't classify it as big either but her hard body was definitely a hallmark of her movie portrayal. Unless scarjo does some Chris Evans training she doesn't look the part. Jessica Biel would be better or hell even the MMA chick from haywire. I liked haywire.

She doesn't need to be big but tone... Like a perfect athletes body is how the film version of kusanagi looks. Jessica Biel is apparently preggers now but she's not big. Gina from haywire isn't big. They just have tone athletic bodies. Can't say I feel the same way about scarjo.Only thing is that her body is mechanical, so she doesn't need to be big to use strength in the universe.
I dunno. I'm much more worried about the writing than the casting.
I'm not seeing an attempt at a joke in my post. (?)

I'm not seeing much of anything in that post.
The only way I see Scarlett working is with a ton similar to Terminator 2 Sarah Conner (which wont happen because "Girls with muslces? Ewww gross!").
Either way, she's still on the short side. The Major was shortest (ignoring Aramaki) but wasn't dwarfed by everyone like ScarJo in Avenger, nor did she wear heels all the time. I guess creative filming can overcome that though
Good for you.
I think people should probably be more concerned about how the narrative/thematic content will be handled over who has been cast in the lead role when it comes to this property.
Faora from Man of Steel,
Man she was such a badass I would have been fine with WB just casting her again as Wonder Woman.

Most of Faora's screen presence is because of the actress and the costume she is in. Nothing to do with her body.

Yeah no doubt normally she's pretty sleek and slender, the juxtaposition of the two makes an impression during the scene. I don't think an actress like Scarlett Johansson has anything to worry about in terms of her body for this role, but Kusanagi can be pretty menacing in her physique at times. It's evident during the street market fight scene in particular. In any case I have no issues and think she's perfectly fit for the role and she'd do a great job...just that the Major can be massive at times!
Not saying that it was good (haven't seen it myself, but still not expecting much), just that it was profitable. Between the success of that film as well as her playing Black Widow in the MCU films, those are the main contributors to why Hollywood would be courting her for this role.Luc Besson keep making these crap Hollywood wanttabe action movies with odd leads. From time to time he got lucky and hit the jackpot (maybe 1 in every 20 movie he produced).
The one thing that pissed me the most in Lucy is Korean gangsters in Taiwan. He didn't want to offend the Chinese market so he used Korean gangster instead of Taiwanese...in Taiwan.
The whole movie makes no sense, no sense.
At this point representation matters more to me than anything else. Not many people are in my camp tho, and that's fine.
I took a quick look down that list and I didn't see anyone who is Japanese. Am I right in saying you want them to sub in a "close enough" nationality?
Yup.Honestly, I'd rather see Antje Traue than Scarlett.
She's got that great, intense beauty look:

Throw some Hulk cg on her if a similar scene comes up!
So I don't remember if I've seen her in anything, but what do people think of Maggie Q? I remember thinking she looked fit in Nikita promo photos.

Ha yeah no doubt it's doable, that kind of scene isn't doable in live action without CG anyways! Motoko is pretty muscular but I'm sure they'd adapt appropriatly for the movie. It's not like that's what will make or break this movie or anything lol. Plus I doubt she'll be naked in the film, it'll be PG-13 and you'll like it!

These guns ripping themselves apart would have been great.
Not a single thing. Even if you want to say "her name" she's in a cybernetic body that isn't based on her original looks. Her name isn't even her real name but "obviously an alias". Hell by the end of the manga she was in a male cybernetic body.Is there anything specific to the character that makes it so she has to be Japanese?
I'm not that familiar with GITS, so I am genuinely asking.
I thought they did a great job adapting Edge of Tomorrow from the original Japanese light novel to an American movie.

She's kind of bad at acting.
She's not Japanese.

Scarjo's a decent choice, but if I had it my way, I would had choice the actress that played "GoGo" in Kill Bill volume 1.
Now I really don't get the outrage.
Very cool.On a slightly related note, some months ago a photography team completed an homage to the GitS intro (features some nudity, as did the original animation):

I have no opinion on it one way or the other, seems like it was fun to do.
As for the movie, I'd be more interested if they included the deleted scenes from the manga (with Rinko Kikuchi, of course).
It's not something that you couldn't transpose to other countries at all. It's about politics, it just happens to be in Japan, it's in no way core to the story.

I actually like this idea.
If she can't be Asian then Noomi is definitely a good choice...

I'd watch it for laughs.
