The true hero of Jurassic Park is the asshole kid at the beginning. They truly do not look very scary, more like a 6 foot turkey.

Jurassic Park 3 already lightly experimented with giving Raptors some feathering. I think the main reason they've stayed w/out feathers is for franchise consistency.

All these people wanting their Dinosaurs naked, exposed to the elements. Shameful

Tell me who's more badass? A dude that survives and thrives naked in a snowstorm? Or a dude fully covered in a warm coat in the same conditions?

Touché.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
This thread is amazing.

Too bad the DNA thing was a lie too. Damn you Spielberg.

I mean most of the movie is soft scifi. The atmosphere when the dinos lived was also different from today so if we somehow created Dino's based on they were tens of millions of years ago then they would most likely have some issues breathing/living outside of a climate controlled bubble.

In Jurassic World the scientists in the lab basically admits ,"we all know that's not what they really look like."

So eh. It's fine.

The rejection of scientific evidence is an unfortunate byproduct of pop culture.
Too many kids (myself included) grew up thinking scaly dinosaurs were rad as fuck. So to see these things look like prehistoric birds is rubbing many the wrong way.

Pop culture has way too much importance in our society... and that's coming from someone who tries to make a living off his drawings and comics.

Eh, they could bullshit that the reptilian look was a side effect of infusing them with frog DNA (a plot point in the first movie), and they can go like "With our modern bio-engineering techniques the frog dna is no longer needed so we have more accurate raptors now".

wtf, so we thought dinosaurs didn't have feathers for all this time, now that we think they do we find proof like a year later

Just to reiterate the others, it was actually right around the production of Jurassic Park that the feathers theories were being brought about. I think it was too far into production but more than anything it was too far removed from the public's general perception and understanding of dinosaurs for them to change the portrayal.

We should stop teaching evolution. These are just planted by god to test our resolve. Jesus rode scaly, not feathered dino.

It's been a strong theory for ages, long before Jurassic Park 1 even.

Nah it wasn't 'too far into production', they knew about it way before they started on the movie. Spielberg talked about this a lot - about how they wanted to include as much real-looking elements into the animal's behavior, movements and sounds, but not necessarily sticking close to reality. Movie magic/rules trumped reality for him. See also: basically switching the Dilo and Raptor sizes because it seemed cooler for their respective action sequences. They never claimed it was all supposed to be as close to 'real' dinosaurs as possible, just real in the sense that, given the then-current leaps in technology, it seemed like it could be real. Not doing the feathers was a creative choice, not a lack of knowledge.

That's why I could never get angry over them not doing feathers in Jurassic World. The original also played it very fast and loose with reality, and the established look for creatures like the T-Rex and Raptors are iconic at this point. Makes complete sense to me (within that universe) to stick to that, and the idea that they're altering the creatures to fit the audience's expectation/their coolness factor is a part of the original novel as well (as well as, very lightly, Jurassic World). Walking with Dinosaurs was always the place to learn about how they actually lived back in the day - that's the place for the feather discussion, not a theme park popcorn flick.

Probably the guy who isnt an idiot without a coat in a snowstorm.

I always thought that if we discovered dinosaurs all had feathers, it would be really neat...surprised people don't like the idea.
