US: Gamestop giving $50 extra trade credit for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U

I would like to take advantage of this Wii U trade-in deal. I was hoping someone could answer my questions regarding the Nintendo Network ID:

1. I do not want my ID to be deleted forever because I am using the same one for my 3DS. Does Nintendo's instructions to remove a user from a Wii U mean the same as unlinking the NNID from the Wii U?

2. Does reformatting the system back to factory settings mean that the NNID is unlinked from the Wii U? I can continue using the same NNID on my 3DS?

Thanks

I'd like to know this as well as I am thinking of trading my Wii U.

DON'T delete the NNID. You may want to use it later or on your 3DS

Just format the system and sell it. If you want to link another Wii U later, call Nintendo and have the serial number from the system you're selling on hand.

So, I just bought the Xbox One S on Black Friday for $250 (bundled with a $25 MS Gift Card and $50-equiv in Xbox Live Rewards and Far Cry). I also already sold the Battlefield 1 digital code for $30. So I'm at about an effective $145 cost right now.

What gift cards does Gamestop carry that could be bought with store-credit these days? If I could walk away with $125 in a gift cards to somewhere useful, I'd be very interested in taking this offer but don't need anything else from Gamestop for the foreseeable future. Want to avoid selling the console on eBay.

Mostly garbage. Foam swords and Goku statues.

You can get Steam/PSN/XBL cards at least

So formatting the system doesn't erase my digital purchases? Also, with the rumors of being able to upgrade VCgames you purchased digitally on Wii U -> Switch, I wonder if you'll need the console to take advantage of that.

I think I'm going to begrudgingly do this (trade my PS4 in toward a Pro for a stable TLG).

I've never done anything like this before; is this about what I need to do?

1. Back up my PS4 (don't want to lose PT!) to an external HD over USB.
2. Deactivate my PS4
3. Format PS4
4. Bring system, cables, controller to GS. Is anything else required? I have the box and all that, is that worth bringing?
5. Buy PS4 Pro for $225 ($125 trade-in value + $50 bonus).
6. Restore from external HD.
7. Enjoy TLG at 1080p/30!

I miss anything?

4. Anything listed on your box is expected to be traded in except for the mono headset. Funnily enough, they took my mono headset as a separate trade in and gave me around $1.20 for it (I don't remember the exact value). The clerk said people come in constantly asking to buy those things for some reason.

6. After you restore don't forget to go back in and activate it as your primary PS4.

I used this post for the transfer and it worked exactly like they said: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=222740967&postcount=1

Same question here. Can the format be quick, or is full recommended?

The paranoid answer is to do a full. I assume all quick does is flag all data is available to be overwritten, meaning it still exists on the HDD. A full most likely wipes and refills each location as well as flags it to be overwritten.

Realistically, a quick would probably work. But I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Realistically though, what's the "sorry" scenario? Could my games be restored to a playable state (under my own account) on that PS4 in the right (or wrong) person's hands? I don't have any particular data files on there that I care to be protective about.

Man I might trade on my wii U and ps4 plus wii U games for a pro.

I'm definitely in for switch in a few months...

At Gamestop and I'm being told that the original Xbox One doesn't qualify for this.

Show them the Ad but ultimately they reserve the right to change the terms of the ad. You can try calling corporate on them. Although I am not sure that is worth the effort. I would recommend trying another GS in your area.

Hah, I have no idea really. I'd guess they could get PSN info off the machine and try to hijack your account in the absolute worst case, but the chances of that kind of person buying it from a Gamestop must be minuscule. Realistically, nothing is probably going to happen. However, it only took my system (500GB) an hour and ten minutes to do a full reformat, and I was able to do that while cooking dinner, so it was worth it for peace of mind. The real B was going through and deleting everything I could to get my backup to fit on USB drives, and then doing the backup twice just to be safe. Kept my install of PT though!

Tell me if I'm wrong. Couldn't I trade in my 500GB launch PS4 and 32GB Wii U for ($125+50) + ($125+50) = $350 credit?

(I ask because I was seeing lower numbers for PS4+Wii U trade-in earlier in the thread and didn't understand why.)

You can. Assuming they don't deduct any value.

I'm torn, I don't want to lose access to my Wii-U library, but I know I'm never going to turn it on again, and that's money towards a switch.

I did my launch system with Kinect last night, 131 total trade in , 75+6+50.

I'm not sure if it was something fucky or general ignorance but when I asked if he'd try it worked fine. Got a brand new Pro after selling that and my PS4.

I did this last night. With a few games and wii u pro controller I had like $475 in store credit.

Yeah I felt the same way. Then I realized I havent turned on my Wii U in like 6 months so I got rid of it. Switch is right around the corner and I'd pack the Wii U away then anyway. Just do it man, feels good to get rid of stuff you don't use anymore.

Yeah, you're right. Fuck it. I'm usually good at moving on and staying minimal. I know it's just going to wind up in a box in the closet and no one's going to have fun with it there.

I get the feeling switch is going to get any of the games I really want to play again anyway.

Decided to trade in PS4, now I got to figure out what to do with these giftcards. Unfortunately the GS around me doesn't have Amazon cards anymore.

$322 for my WiiU and 10 of the best games in the system. Don't know if I should go for it.

That would pretty much cover the price of the Switch.

Consider you'd be buying the PS4 Pro for only $225 and yeah. You're future proofing yourself for a couple years.

I was thinking about this same swap (launch PS4 -> PS4 Pro), but then tax makes it more like a $250 difference. Regardless, I can't justify that when I don't even need it.

You're swell and I appreciate you.

I'm worried about losing access to these games:

Bayonetta 2
Wonderful101
Tropical Freeze

Just about everything else first party I can kinda do without, taking into account that Splatoon, Mario Kart, Mario Maker and Smash are moving over to Switch. It's a tough call, the more wii U titles that get ported over the less reason there is to keep it( lowering its value), but there's that odd chance that a few must-owns like Bayonetta don't get carried over and you regret it. To be safe, I'd hold on to whatever games that you can't do without. Certain titles are already creeping up in price and will be harder to find/more expensive down the line.

you could trade in the console now + wait for one of those "50% extra on game trade ins" deals (there was one like a week ago :\) and you'd more than cover it

Correct. No need to trade the games in now. You can easily get more for them later.

After thinking long and hard about it, I think I'm going to upgrade to the PS4 Pro. $175 is a tad lowball for what I can get just reselling my OG PS4, but I don't really have the time or hassle to bother with doing that right now. $175 isn't too bad for a straight trade-in either. I'll take care of that tomorrow then.

But what guarantees that the price for those games isn't gonna go down?

I have Smash, Maker, MK8, Bayo2, DKTF, Zelda TP, Zelda WW

Limited inventory of those titles. Only so many systems sold so by extension only so many copies of those games are out in the wild. And Nintendo games just retain their value in general, I don't see the wii U titles being different including those titles that move to Switch. Titles like Twillight Princess GC or Windwaker didn't suffer just because HD versions came out for the U.

If sell my Wii U then I wouldn't be able to play Mario Galaxies/3D World. Are chances high they get ported to Switch in some way?

There are no guarantees in life, however they will likely have a 30%-50% promo coming up soon. Take advantage of it then. I doubt the demand for Smash will drop so much as the price will plummet. I have the same game list, along with Splatoon and couple of other titles. I am holding off until there is a better promo.

And done. Got rid of my WiiU and library for it. Not going to gamble on whether or not there'll be a trade in deal or if it'll hold its value well enough by the time the Switch comes out. And in it's place I got this as a present for my roommate.

Time to hide this baby inside my desk next to my PC until Christmas. To make sure it works, of course.

Is this store credit or cash?

Store credit only.

Yea. I think I'm finally gonna do it. Gonna trade the PS4 and save the credit and giftcard for a switch. I just never hardly play the PS4 anymore and as much as I really did love Knack. Knack 2 just isn't enough to make me keep it. No interest in anything else coming either. So meh no big loss.

With Play anywhere from microsoft they just get most of my money gaming wise anymore.
